If you don't count playing Darkfall Online 12 hours a day + taking a summer course in game design at half pace. First summer I have been semi-free since high school though so I think I deserved it In a few weeks ill start my fifth year as a CS-major which I should be done with soon I guess.
Last three summers I have done some programming jobs for Saab (Defense/Aerospace company, not the cars). Have never had a real full time job.

No it's not like that. At least where I work. I'm actually pretty lazy when it comes to keeping track of new technology. I'm a J2EE developer and our clients mostly stay on the same old architecture, that's why we're still using Java 1.4.2

I'm only 17, still school

Currently I'm a full time student. During school and on breaks from School I do IT for my university though. We don't get paid very well($8.50/hr compared to up to $20/hr at best buy doing the same job) but it's great to know I never have to work a weekend.

We're also still on 1.4.2 also D= (1.4+1.5 was installed on my machine so in my first small project I used generics and then the other guy was like "this doesn't compile?"). My dev team laughed when we got an email from higher ups saying "1.5 is in EOL, please make sure your applications are 1.6 compliant" or some such email.

I am a system administrator in a company here in Croatia that sells Markem-Imaje products. Besides that, all of my free time is consumed by college (currently own junior college diploma, but I want to get higher).
edit:
the global crisis has a huge impact on my company, and as a result the job is now poorly payed. Hope to change job to something better soon.

lost my job (economy) working in databasiing (goal was to be a DBA)...became a bartender
funny thing is that it pays better, is way more fun (socially), and I've gotten laid more times in 1 1/2 year as a bartender than in 5 years working in IT...
I heard most fulltime software developer have to use all their free time keeping up to date, is it true?
Not always true, but that is kind of the same for any career besides civil service work (police, fire, etc.). If you're a software developer you like that stuff anyway and should be so lucky to be able to do it all the time. I'm sure there are people who would say "ew so I have to play starcraft for hours every day!?" ...yea that would be real hell cough cough.
