Rockets shock Lakers in game one means they have a fighting chance now. I still think Lakers will win the series, but it won't be easy for them, giving Denver a better chance to steal the Western Finals. For Rockets to upset the Lakers, they need Artest and Yao to score big in every game, and I just don't see that happening. Artest chokes and Yao is prone to injury. Denver's chances looking better and better. They are going to walk through the Mavs, and will then get to play a tired Laker or Rockets team. If Denver continues to improve on defense, I think they could find themselves in the finals. In the East, Cavs continue to roll. Everyone else is a sideshow. ![]()

They are underdogs vs both teams and they've had a VERY nice path to the WCF. I doubt Denver would make it to Game 6 vs either one of these teams. correct

It's playoffs. It doesn't matter how many wins you had during regular season, besides Denver has improved every game.

First round: LOL the Hornets. The same Hornets that has their entire starting 5 banged up, Tyson Chandler still unhealthy vs a very healthy Denver team. Oh shit how did they not sweep? Second Round: The Mavs. The same Mavs that don't play D. The same Mavs that were struggling to stay at the 8th spot until Phoenix helped them by just disappearing completely and then Utah shit themselves not too long after. Denver has had the easiest path of any team so far. They avoided LA, Houston, and Portland - all 3 teams which would have more than likely wiped Denver off the face of the playoff map. They really did get lucky with the way the last week of the season ended as they were very close to being a #3 or even 4 seed which meant first round exit for them - unless they got lucky and drew San Antonio. Lets be serious here. Denver is good - sure. Are they good enough to beat those 3 teams? You are right it's the playoffs but unfortunately it's also still a game of match ups which they lose badly. Their only hope is for Carmelo to play at a high level (read: like his 03 mates) for them to have a shot. Otherwise it's over for them. It's even funnier you said they are one of the only teams that can deliver a blowout as if that solidifies their skill level - no shit look who they get to play. No one else has the luxury.

Which of course can be a given if they were rolling the worst teams in the playoffs. But I think they would give Houston a pretty good fight and could definitely see that series going to 4-3 for either team.

They have very good team chemistry like Cleveland has and like Pistons had during their run. I'm sorry to dissapoint but even after the Pau Gasol steal from Grizzlies Lakers don't shine with anything spectacular. Their route to finals last year was possibly easier than Denver's has been so far. Odom will be leaving after this year so it's won't be easier next year. Houston traps their offence like Boston did. Lakers offence is running into concrete wall each time, they make stupid plays after that, get frustrated and draw stupid fouls. You seriously think this will change? They can't hold to leads and haven't delivered any statement win so far. By any standard how can you possibly think Lakers as a serious Championship winner? Yes they might get to the finals, but vs Cavs it's more than difficult unless they don't have another gear. As a Laker fan myself I would seriously want to see them stepping up their game so there would atleast be some hope..

On the other hand, LA plays good defense and has the athleticism and offensive talent to keep up with and outscore the Nuggets. Houston plays superb defense and can score well enough. Both teams had winning records against the Nuggets in the regular season (LA 2-1 HOU 3-1). A big problem for Denver is that they have no answer for the 7-footers on both teams since their biggest players are Nene (not tall enough and poor defender) and the Birdman (too small and better help defender than on-ball defender). Also, both the Lakers and Rockets have shown an ability to shut Melo down, which make it a lot tougher for the Nuggets to win. Do the Nuggets have a shot against both teams? Sure. Should they be considered favorites against either team? No. Should they be getting comparisons to the Cavs? Absolutely not. They've had an easy path against favorable matchups, they have not been put in a pressure situation yet and thus haven't been tested (sure their chemistry and teamwork are great now, but what happens when the shit hits the fan?), and they're not good defensively outside of KMart. It's fine to get excited by how good they've looked so far, I admit I have, but we have to keep things in perspective by considering all the relevant circumstances and factors as well before we start proclaiming them legitimate contenders.

So it's just a coincidence that the Lakers went 4-0 against the Rockets this season? It's not relevant that the Lakers played about as poorly as they have all season and still had a shot at winning the game in the middle of the fourth quarter? Houston played a great game, should be given a lot of credit, and considered a serious contender by the Lakers and the rest of the league, but let's not get carried away by just one game. This year's Rockets team is not the same as last year's Celtics team, and the Lakers are better this year than they were last year (more time with Gasol and Ariza, and Bynum's in the rotation). The Lakers are still the favorites and rightfully so. They have yet to show their A game in the playoffs, so it's too quick to sound their death knell.

An article by Hollinger supporting the notion that the Nuggets may actually be capable of something really special in this postseason. He has some good points, but I don't think he looks close enough at some of the details, i.e. Denver's first round opponent. I'll acknowledge that the Nuggets look very good on paper, but I still stand by my analysis and will need to see more from the Nuggets before dubbing them a serious contender.
