It pretty much defines his candidacy he cant back down
no republican candidate (other than ron paul) was for ending the war in Iraq

Well he could have sticked to his opinions and not flip flopped, but did he really have to stress several times how great this war's going since the surge and how this would end with a glorious win for the U.S.

Well, the people oppose the Iraq war in general. However they support the surge, by and large, and feel like it is succeeding.
President Bush was the one pushing hardest to start the war, McCain was the one who during the first few year criticized the way the war was being carried out and then later pushed for the surge.
A lot of American's (I think I am one of them), feel like things would have been better if we had never invaded Iraq. But now that we are in there, many of us believe that we have to leave in the right way: victory and not defeat.

so basically this election will be like deciding which testicle you want amputated. I wouldn't say its that hard of a choice. Senator John McCain has voted with President Bush 100% of the time in 2008 and 95% of the time in 2007. Fact. 1: Do the same thing we've been doing for 8 years. or 2: Try this new dude. Anything but the same =/ um, obama's economic stance is really, really stupid. you are really overgeneralizing and ignoring the issue. good job being a tool.

The middle east has been in turmoil since the beginning of time. McCain's strategy is sure to work, though.

I wish more people would point out that the turn around in Iraq was beginning before the surge was even proposed...
Sadly, none of these debates are going to be policy debates which is pretty frustrating for someone that studies it. This is basically just a chest bumping match to see which candidate can get the most jibes in and come off looking good, but neither candidate said anything new or specific and there's really no way to know whose policies would be better because they havent actually laid them out. All I can really draw is that McCain said a ton of false stuff Iran and Iraq, but he did well in the chest bumping department.

McCain telling Obama that a president has to be careful about what he says = epic lulz

More tax cuts for the rich, more money spent on the war, taxpayer bailout of recent economic disaster. There's plenty to go around!

Neither plan is great, but it seems like Obama's plan would be worse in the short term and cause higher growth long term.
I think it's pretty damn important that he's emphasizing health care, education and science, because those are monumentally important for a thriving economy. It sounds bad, but the USA truly does not have a strong work force anymore. We may not even have a top 10 work force if it weren't for quantity, and it's because those components have been so poor in the past 30 years.

Somebody needs to shoot Giuliani. I think all Americans can agree on this.

Obama may be inspiring everybody, but I have a love affair with Biden. I really wish the Bidens and Richardsons have a legitimate chance at the presidency.

In case anyone is wondering, Pakistan actually folds a number of different ways and if you think Iraq/Iran is complicated, the Pakistan situation is much, much more convoluted. The military that's barely holding it together are pro-Western robber barrens, but Pakistan's intelligence agency (ISI) is in bed with the Taliban and likely Al qaeda. Not only is there a long history, but there's a lot of resentment against the military which pushes them in that direction. Adding to that is the AQ network (scientist Abdul Qadeer) who is the person that sold the nuclear bomb blueprints to N. Korea, Iran and Libya and the military (our side) did nothing to prevent it. There's a strong middle class that wants a democracy, but they're still pissed at the US for supporting Musharraf. Then you've got the continual struggle with India, which has been going on longer than any other Mid. East conflict and those two sides are fairly close to exchanging nuclear blows, even though we're technically on the side of both their current gov'ts. Their military is also irritated by our encroachment from Afghanistan, but they can't do much as it's on the edge of collapse already.
Iran gets too much coverage because it has an idiot for a president, but it's less hostile and it's more stable than we give it credit for. Pakistan is just a giant clusterfuck and ideally we should tell the British to take care of the mess.

idiot? I think Ahmadinejad is a brilliant entertainer. His speech at the UN the other day was comedy gold.
