![]() I listen to all sorts of musik nowadays, it was mostly rap b4, but my 1st semester at college got me listenin to other stuff and i actually like it. There hasnt been a decent rap album made in the last couple of years. im not sure but i think the last album i enjoyed was the root's things fall apart, and this was back around 2000....not sure, I mostly listen old shit nowadays when it comes to rap. Eminem's albums have been ok, i like some songs on them, but they don't measure up to like a "ready to die" or "all eyez on me"...oh yea Tupac's recent Better dayz is surprisingly good too ![]()

I listen to punk, by th way. Oh, and Jay Z was on 60 Minutes II tonight. Haha, he shot his brother for stealing his jewelry when he was 12 years old.

If any of you gents are interested in learning about punk, let me know, I will gladly recommend bands, and if I have the time perhaps send out a comp CD or 2 (ask Markquis), since "I like this girl, but now she's gone T.T" is in many ways as far from the truth as it gets. Sum 41, Alkaline Trio, Good Charlotte, NoFX (all albums except first perhaps), Dropkick Murphy's and many other alleged "punk" bands of today are a far cry away from what punk has to offer. (Though the same could perhaps be said of any genre) I am always up for CD-R/MP3 swapping of bands as well, especially for local scene or foreign (non-US) bands(jeffstandard@hotmail.com). Rather interesting discussion and while fruitless as tastes differ, it revealed a few rappers I was not familiar with (though admittedly I am no connoissuer). I do concur with most of the comments (though Tupac was rather hypocritical, listening to "Changes", then him mouthing off in his East Coast diss make for stark and amusing contrast. That video of Tupac and his crew beating the tar out of some East Coast fellow at the MGM grand was not exactly model citizenship either, though definitely agreed it was still good to hear him espouse positive elements). ![]() JMoridin. hit 'em up is not an east coast diss. it is a direct diss to biggie and the bad boy family, along with specific rappers who stuck their noses in, along with bitch rappers who he felt were siding with bad boy as a way of expressing their "east coast pride" or "getting biggie over" or whatever the fuck else they thought they were doing. how about you listen to pac's "old school". yes, that is the name of the song. pac showed biggie the business. poured out his knowledge for him. pac gets shot in new york. treach goes to the hospital to visit him. biggie does not. neither do any of the new york rappers who were also present at the studio. cats like nas, jayz, akinyele, tip, etc. pac goes to jail on that rape bit. comes out and fucks faith evans wallace (again?). biggie drops "who shot ya". every rapper in new york sticks their noses in. the west coast rappers show remarkable restraint. in spite of his love for new york, pac sets the record straight and shits on all the bitch rappers who stuck their noses in. pac finally retaliates with "hit 'em up." the source awards. "east coast vs west coast" becomes a catchphrase. ignorant people start using the catchphrase. the real beef was between biggie and 2pac, and it should have stayed there.

"I still whip your ass, you thirty-six in a karate class? You Tae-bo hoe, tryna' work it out, you tryna' get brolic?"

Don't you use Kazaa ![]() jpl: I used to download from Kazaa, then Kazaa-lite as I abhor spyware, but I truthfully cannot find much punk I do not have (or want) from Kazaa these days (I am collector scum). I use Soulseek currently, and while it touts a wealth of underground bands and albums among my wildest dreams, the connection speeds are atrocious as well as the ridiculous file-sharing politics where most chaps do not share any files and you need authorization to download from them (which usually means befriending or sharing their views, et cetera). Casper: Admittedly, I am not too well versed in the politics governing the Tupac situation, though the point still stands that Tupac gravitated between wanting to rid rap and the hood of its more unsavory elements, but on the same token lashing out just as violently as others (Though that "Don't one a' you nigga's got sickle-cell or somethin'?" line was gold) when attacked or pressed. Thanks kindly for explaining the situation a bit more though, upon further reviewing the lyrics, while it does have some definite West Coast'ism in the song, it is most assuredly focused toward Biggie and such events as mentioned. ![]() JMoridin. 2. Nas- his lyrics are complex and hes been doing it for years. and despite what jay-z said every album he made has good tracks on it 3. eminem- i liked him better when he was funny and didnt care about shit because his punch lines were crazy. his last cd was wack with only a few cool tracks. hes gonna stop this intense LOSE YOURSELF shit thats just gay 4. BIggie- heh i didnt listen to him for a long time becasue i was such a pac fan but he definitely deserves a spot. jay-z has nice wordplay but hes pretty much pop party rap now dmx is pretty good to get u hyped before a game or if u want to go get in a fight i like 50 but mostly because the beats on his cd are awesome not becasue he can rap all that well

Biggie was good too, just not a true poet like those 2 are. as for JayZ, he seems to only be good in some or most of his commercial stuff he puts out, he music that dont get played on the radio is wack. thats where you can tell that theres a good artist. Pac had a gang of singles and even some or a lot of his songs that didnt make it on the radio were still good. As for Biggie, i dunno, but i do know he didnt put out much shit, so you couldnt see his full potential as in Pacs case, his old ass ryhmes that were written from b4 he died, are still hella good till this day, which is 7 years later for you non rap affiliated people.

And about the biggie pac shit. i've talked aobut it way too many times with my boys the last couple of yrs and im tired of it. All i know is it got taken too far. both them niggas specially Big didn't care about it, he just wanted to make his musik. Pac hyped it up just to sell his musik and make more money. and i blame the fuckin media in messin it all up. i also blame puffy for messin up Big's career, that nigga did nothin to help Big. without him Big woulda been with Pac on deathrow and he'd prolly be alive today along with Pac...
