Why?
I mean you can devolve to as low a level as you want, there is no bottom. I just don't understand the purpose of watching these things...
You only have one life, why not experience everything it has to offer (that you want, of course)? Who knows, maybe they like testing their fortitude. This is the closest thing to venting our primitive urges other than sports or fighting.

It's not as if they are opting for torture. They are merely viewing something disgusting, and willingly too. It's not something that is such a bad thing in life that it could be compared to other obstacles that real life throws in our way.

Haha I get your drift but dude the "only one life why not experience everything" is not a convincing argument if you wanna convince him to watch. Because that can include 1 million other things that you yourself would never wanna do but it still falls under "only one life why not experience everything" category. Peoples' mind defines their own tolerance levels to such things and we'll never be the same.
Is global warming true? Yes. But there are still many people who don't wanna believe in man-bear-pig. lol.

Hey this actually just made me think about something. Back in the medieval times it was common entertainment to watch an execution. People would crowd around like it was some red carpet event in hollywood. I believe that everyone is pussified and censored away from this kind of stuff nowadays and its somewhat bad for people NOT to see it. Screw the empathy argument, it has nothing to do with that.
I had another paragraph here but I don't know how to say exactly what I am pointing out/thinking so I deleted it. Basically I think what I mean is something like; Its just life.
PS- here are some more mildly gross gifs and pics. + Show Spoiler +
And the of course there are pictures like these WTC suicide jumpers Clicky

It's not a matter of being a pussy. It's a matter of taste and preference. If some people want to go through life ignorant of the tradegies, so be it. It's like I don't have to watch the process of making my fur coat, just give me the fu****** coat.
I agree on your part that it could be bad for some people to not see certain situations though. For example, no one really sees the murders and carnage that occurs in wars because of the powers to be. Don't show the murders and you have morale up. Why do you think they show pictures and videos of soldiers smiling with citizens, or other pseudo joyess occasions. It's to not deter anyone from joining them and realizing it was all horse shit.
That exactly the kind of point I was trying to get at. They are like pulling wool over their eyes and openly admitting it, and that really pisses me off because its just purely stupid in my opinion. People need to inform themselves and stop living in their fantasy worlds.

Read "Discipline & Punish", it talks about exactly that.

That's exactly why i don't recommend it. Because you know that really happens and will make you a bit depressed. Better to keep your innocent soul away from it
Ok that doesn't even make sense.
It does. Every thing like this you see makes you lose your optimism. After seeing what people do to people you'll surely get depressed.
Rarely lieing to ourselfs is good, but in this case it is.
I see no reason for someone to see those videos. What's the probability for that to happen IRL in front of your eyes? Very small... so it doesn't worth "preparing" yourself for. Every uglly thing you see will remain somewhere in your soul. You don't just see it and it goes away, oh no... it actually fucks you up for life in some cases. Ask someone who fought in hard wars like WWI or WWII to tell you about it.. they won't tell you anything of the horible things they saw and if you ask them specifically about it they will just say "i wan't to forget that, war's no place for a human being".
Sometimes it's better to keep yourself innocent and naive... even at the cost of ignorance.
charlie some day when you save up some money go for a northern tour or something, rough it out in the woods spend time in nature, see some orcas swimming around.
there is good in the world, people with empty souls may be working hard to destroy what little good is left, but i suggest you go around and see some of the remaining good things, it just might crack your ice-cold heart a little bit.
