Hello,
I recently discovered that you could place bets on the outcome of Broodwar matches on online sportsbetting websites. I placed some bets, and made a few hundred dollars so far. I feel bad about this, because if I had known sooner, I could have made tens of thousands of dollars by now, if not more.
Has anyone else had any experience betting on Broodwar?
Can anyone recommend any good betting websites or resources for betting on Broodwar?
Thanks.

I think if you're in US you use bovada instead of bodog

lol illegal betting sites is the reason why the matchfixing scandals happened, so I don't think you are gonna get many positive responses here.

Thanks for the suggestions, bet365 looks good so far.
Do you know if bodog/nitrogen offer Broodwar betting? (I searched on both and could only find SC2, and I do not bet on SC2, as I have not watched it in years).

Anyone gonna bet on Flash vs Larva?

They usually do, bodog/bovada had it for ro8 then I think didn't offer it for ro4 and finals.
nitrogen recently had a redo of their sportsbook and it looks like a lot of stuff got taken out.

I really don't like posts like these where the author states how he won some money with betting. It's basically the textbook message of fishing new food. And it's not that I don't believe the author. It's just the fact that writing messages like this is not the right thing to do.
Betting doesn't provide any economical value to society. So do many other activities, like games. They provide entertainment, but in the case of games the entertainment is cheap, with low risk of sliding into disastrous effects. For betting it's the opposite. So, I would propose a ban for this thread. Betting must die. Without betting, we would have a lot more good pro-gamers in the scene now.

That is bold statement, you do not need to bet your life savings. Some people do, but also some people waste their lives on games. So in the end, your opinion on betting is just an opinion.
I bet only on broodwar matches. The invested amounts have stayed the same for few years I betted. It adds spice for watching the matches, moneywise it does not matter since I bet only a amount that would not get me even a cup of coffee.
If I win it's great, maybe I get a free cup of coffee. If I lose it's great. The money goes to sports, science, arts and youth work.
A knife in your kitchen drawer does not make you a murderer.

People should have the right to do whatever they want as long as it isnt having a direct negative affect on others. If I want to wager my paycheck in a sports bet I have that right

Not true actually. The system may take care of failed people in many areas but it certainly does not have to.
The state providing security does not give it the right to take freedoms

the thing is betting can cause pathological addiction; this is not to say that it will, but it is a possibility. some people are able to have control over the bets, other are not able to exercise that control. here is a 9 question test you can take that will give you an idea of where your at so treat with care and enjoy. and remember, "you can never lose what you don' t bet" As far as the money part, the only way i have seen of people consistently, securely and steadily having an income from gambling, are the ones who own the casinos or gambling sites.

And to the billionaire owners.
Anyway this is somewhat taboo in the BW scene since it's been part of killing the game and pro scene. And I disagree with the view on it just being up to each individual. Gambling addiction isn't a made up issue, shouldn't be ignored. Doesn't mean the whole betting business should be stopped but gambling addictions will come along with it.
It's a free world, can't really be stopped even if there was will to do so. But people should be aware of the risks of addiction though, imo some kind of help to get off it should be provided.
