wtf is that though? Requesting that of people who qualify, sure. But anyone who signs up? Data protection laws exist for the very good reason of not asking for arbitrary information without proper business use.

Based on past year experience, proactive measures are necessary to run the tournament smooth and clear, without any disturbance, which is a proper business use. I belive the reputation so far earned justifies the risk of revealing personal data. If otherwise, one may wish to watch the tournament without revealing anything.
Personally it will keep me from participating, as I don't want to give my name + phone number away like that. That's PII and shouldn't be asked to participate in a tournament. I could understand having a non-smurf policy asking unknown players to provide proof of residence if they're performing well in the ladder stage (before its conclusion). But this way you're basically just gathering personal information.
Hey so I was born in the Soviet Union then I lived and was citizen of Russia then I lived in Austria, Germany, and Holland in that order before moving back to Russia then I moved to the United States and became a naturalized citizen before going back to Russia a few times and then I played while I was on vacation in Aruba, I also developed MacauLauncher, but then I played in the Russian team for ICCup Nation Wars on the B team, and then after that I had an account first from Thailand then Japan then Greece, so can I play for a South American spot in the qualifier because I like Latino women?
PS. Can't send address or copy of passport or personal information because it is against the law of Borneo and Papua New Guinea.

This is what you can technically do - start laddering as is, and closer to the end day decide whether to share or not if you belive you can qualify. + Show Spoiler +
So passport copy and proof or residence is okay, but a name and phone is GDPR LAW BREACH? ...I don't know what to say.

The OP makes it look like people need to immediately provide name and phone number when they make an account, and your previous reply makes it sound the same. Your latest reply only makes it sound like it's required at the end of the ladder stage, but before you said it's used to weed out players proactively. Which way is it now? Obviously anyone who wants to just play can send bogus information which defies the method and only has the honest players give away private information. And no, passport data would obviously be even worse!

If you are so much good lawyer citing GDPR then you must be very well aware of what may happen with you when you are misrepresenting something with "bogus" information.
Regarding your very important comment on what should and what should not be asked to participate in a tournament, you should have to:
Tell your name,
Tell your age,
Tell your address,
Show your passport
when you were about to sign up for WCG back these days. At least this is what was the case in Russia.
If you want to play, but you are worried about revealing your precious name and your red line cell phone, I haven't any chance to forbid you making the RCG20-Nickname account, have I? The only thing is that I won't admit you to qualify to the national stage if I get the info after the ladder stage results are announced, even despite your MMR is more than those of Flash. You are just late.
If you want to follow the tournament and watch, please be the guest. If you need visa support, please just PM me any time (although I will ask for your name and cell phone, sic!)
If you want to talk and theorize. You may wish to test your luck and send bogus information. By no means I encourage you to do that.
I've never claimed to want to send bogus information myself. But those who are not eligible to play (like Koreans for example) wouldn't be affected by that anyway. I've also never claimed to be a lawyer or know the GDPR laws by heart. Just that requesting this information simply to sign up for the ladder is a bit much to ask (that's what the OP implies afterall).
So from your latest post I understand that the information is only needed at the end of the ladder stage (right before its conclusion) of the players who are about to qualify? That would obviously make a huge difference.
I am with LML on this one, because my reaction when i saw the sign up requirement was absolutely the same. You don't really need that information before the official results from the online tournaments are in. I would be surprised if any of these players after having qualified take more than a few hours to provide their personal info in preparation for the stay in Russia. The tournaments are completed when, end of May, early June? It's a few months time to prepare the Visa, accommodation, etc. I don't want this to sound like i don't appreciate the effort, but this is something to take into consideration (my opinion).

That's common logic. You take the risk that you may play 3,000 games and by the end of the day, you will get the response that you were not eligible to play from the very beginning.
If I play 3000 games of BW at least I've spent a lot of time doing something I enjoy although I doubt I will play even close to that many games lol
In this regard I will try my luck, and if it looks good for me towards the end (which I doubt), I will provide the data. Thanks for further clarification.

Just "donate" $50 towards the prize pool and he might do without cell phone.
1a. Can we send email and start playing ladder with tag RCG20 right now ? 1b. Or only after April 30th ? 2a. People from Russia also go thru ladder stage? 2b. Or only online qualifiers? 2c. Or both ?

you can start now. Players from russia also play ladder stage and must qualify for FSU/EU Qualifier. you can also win Moscow Lan, which means direct invite.
I can certainly see the point of needing all sorts of personal data for assistance with visas and other travel needs.
I don't think it's justified at the beginning of the qualifying process. It might turn people away and you'll have to store and process A LOT of data that way. What you added as a spoiler is a good idea, so good job of thinking LML's issues through.
It would do no good to us as a community, however, if players that are not eligible decide to participate in the ladder stage and confuse the admins/referees when final standings are analyzed. This is probably why Brain wants to have info right at the start. I find the probability that Korean players would do that rather low. This is speculation, but I suppose there are a select few who have been blacklisted for trying to cheat the selection process, have had a history of hacking (recently) or whatever, but weeding them out would be a tough job even with the details required. I hope the community would ostracize such individuals and make the organizers' job easier. I'm not a huge fan of measures like what Brain proposes, but we'd all like for the qualification process to be smooth, so we'll have to find a compromise.

Sad that we won't see any koreans. That was the most interesting to watch when foreigners play vs koreans and winning against them while all world is rooting for them. Like White_ra beaten stork, Androide beaten silent control and stuff like that was fkn awesome.
Msg me if seeking for multilingual casters english/russian/latvian/german. i would even buy a new laptop and come back for this. ^^

yeah, koreans steamrolling foreigners on LAN is exactly what we need to keep the foreign scene alive..

I agree that it's awesome to have foreigners vs koreans, but not for such big prizepool. We get enough of these matches in STPL and Jeez weekly, so i don't think we need them in RCG

Yeah it's fine when Koreans win, but not when they can win money!

When the time is right. By making it public right now I risk to have no progress from the players when they reach certain mmr which will make them thinking they are now safe.
If I don't make account list public intill the very end of the ladder, a player may still search for the progress of competitors himself by tag search, but such player will spend his own time for analysis, and such player retains the risk of missing one competitor or two and eventually not qualify.

I think i need to sign up as it stands, i can make it perhaps!
my opinion: ladder stage is too long. 3-4 weeks is more than enough. this ladder season been out for a while.so ending the ladder stage 30 april means there is big chance ladder season will end before that(even a month earlier) so all your efforts are gonna be a waste.that ofcourse without counting that u ladder like crazy.made S rank and didnt ladder for a week.u will get demoted to A rank and loss a good chunk of points.

There are players who cannot randomly play ladder any time. They have to apply for a formal vacation (or leave the job) to have enough time to play. This is a reason having two months timeframe. Enough to areange proper schedule. Since there is no loss for you, perhaps making a profit for them is justified?

What Eon means and I'm sorry to who ever this is obvious is that it doesn't matter if you give them 4 months if the new season ladder begins 15th of April for example which is likely to happen. So perhaps maybe consider that and even talk with blizzard to get some info on the subject as you are organizing the biggest Starcraft remastered tournament outside of Korea?
Hm so we do we know when ladder stage ends..? Or is Brain going to look at two different scores, e.g you might have had a higher score at the end of this season?

I disagree. You cannot just be #1 and go inactive as you will start losing points very fast. Please publish the ladder board, it gives so much more joy to fight for spots.

i want to point out again that the russian and polish players invited for their national qualifiers will NOT by automatically be invited for the europe qualifier without the needed ladder ranking. Meaning if you fall short in your national qualifier, you don't get automatically seeded in the EU qualifier, but you get a second chance in the EU qualifier if you cut in via MMR. So for Dewalt, TTF, and spx as well as TrutaCz and kogeT it makes sense to ladder aswell! (Brain correct me if im wrong..)
We're currently planning for the 30th of May for the EU Qualifier.

I ended around 2360 with 46-11 or sth like that.
is something i bring early on.is just useless to play ladder from the first week.there is decay on MMR so if you reach your peak right now is not something u will proly keep .do u need like 5 games x week minimum at S rank.

I think your misunderstanding? Brain is saying yaj has no acc with the required rcg20-tag that is above 2k. If he has, he should sent the required mail so his account can be listed.
I can observe a number of players with an RCG20- tag without registration email. This is to remind, that non-receipt of email until the deadline will result in non-admittance even of those with MMR 3k+. Simply sending an email on April 30, 2020, 11:59 PM won't fit, as you have to receive a positive response until then.
Mr.Brain, I would very much appreciate it if you follow Mr.ZZZero excellent example of BSL and let me represent USA freely as my choice of support. I can be locked in Bulgaria but my heart and soul are in NA! Even if I don't qualify or be able to attend you know I support!

ZZZeroLast Wednesday at 1:44 AM Mr NeMu, beside BSL Nation Wars, BSL is not about representing your country, but about representing yourself in this tournament - if you don't want to make Bulgaria famous with your great skill, you can represent Europe as well. I don't have problem with that. NemuLast Wednesday at 4:39 AM @ZZZero you are the best!!! USA will be represented because I believe I wouldn't be half the man I am now if I wasn't heavily influenced by them in a positive way. Hope that helps clear things up. Pretty much means please don't force me to represent the country I was born in because I don't support it nor its views for the longest time. The only thing I love is our Land which is in criminal hands atm and has been since I can remember myself. Almost as bad as Italian Tour imo and nothing close to the Worlds top16 best players as advertised. And its not like NA and SA are going to get new legends asap its more then evident that majority of players and flight tickets are going to come from Europe so it won't be more expensive. For example the best 64 players from ladder can play tourneys every week for 16 weeks and then you will have the best. You can also make money and views from these big tourneys if you have proper english casters because thats going to be X amount of weeks in which everyone is going to tune in with huge interest. What ever the case might be it sure ain't the one given imo. Peace :evergreen_tree: Oh last but not least if for example 50% of the best players are from na/sa and have to be flown I would prefer them play for 5k total prize pool instead of 10k but to See the best vs the absolute best. If we don't play this game for a little pride why do we do it? Some arabs can make a 1million starcraft tourney between themselves but is that really what everyone will want to watch? If any russians in chat you can please copy paste this to the Brain fella. P.P 3 I don't want to work for free another 30years so I will have to take a paycheck from now on and its not because my spending habbits will increase (I already gave away all material thoughts along with my Full black on black Porsche Cayenne, Black on black X5, Black on black bmw 5 commonrail limousine/sedan which I had all at once for my personal use and EGO years ago) but because I need to help with my part to redistribute wealth properly worldwide. And if your wondering what I inherited from my pops it was loans some of which my mom singlehandedly was able to put out and others that I still will be paying for him and have to answer the phone to! Last but definitely not least I apologize if sometimes I sound or seem a little edgy its only because there isn't enough legal proper medicine in this Circus Y'all call Bulgaria and its hard to be doing everything here when your trying to become a saint within yourself.
This is a very long read and perhaps because of this I struggle to get a point.
Are you asking why RCG20-LoveUSA is "Not registered"? Because no one have sent the registration email. Please resend. You are eligible to play on an account labled by battle.net as "USA" and on US West/ East. Because you are Bulgarian citizen, your ladder position will be accounted to Europe standings (4 spots for top-32 Europe), and WW strandings (2 spots for top-64 WW).

I see no reason to reschedule qualifiers, except moscow lan ofc, since the qualifiers are purely online. Eu quali will take place as scheduled for instance.
so if I register now and qualify for a NA spot in may/june, then decide not to go to russia in sept or whenever due to corona virus related concerns, will I or my region be punished?

At the time we speak, COVID is quite an acceptable reason not to go. The question is whether it will be a mere excuse or a valid reason in half a year.

In my humble opinion it will be a valid reason for at least a year or so.. The 2nd wave will come for sure, I just hope it will not be as deadly as the first one.

I think if there is official government quarantine/restrictions - then tourney final should be postponed for sure. It is a force major thing. And a complete excuse for you. But if this is only your own fear of COVID then you clearly should not participate at all.

arent you same guy who got banned from bsl for letting koreans play on you acc?
Swiss round. So you will play with literally everyone.
Unless 14 people swiss is some specific scenario I am not familiar with, Swiss format does not ensure every player playing with each other, and in fact aims to prevent it to save time (as opposed to round robin)

That's the real corruption I'd love to play but i can't pay 1000$ I actually wrote like 1 hour ago before ladder stage ends. I know that i should get answer before ladder stage ends but atleast i was active and tried to register after one guy online gave me a correct email for registration. So about my situation i think its not a corruption at all to let me play. What if i faster answer about confirmation ( like about in 30 minutes ) ? means everything was ok and i'm in? Now i just have an answer next morning that i'm late. This few hours delay probably shoudn't change a big plans.

But Polish bracket is indeed swiss round on Challonge. I think it's a mistake and should be fixed.
Damn, if only I had enough time to play 33 games, I wasted more time trying to get up to a good score with fewer games, missed the 33 game rule lol, need to stop smoking weed =P
EDIT : The OP should highlight the 33 game rule also the registry rule a little better, it is no one's fault but my own, but I think the OP could be "decorated" a little better, to show things more distinctly. (for example, proper BBcode would do amazingly well, although again I realize it is my own fault for not reading thoroughly enough.)

10 player swiss would make no sense to be honest.. I hope it will actually be round robin, because with only 10 players that would be a much better and more fair format.

Poland - 7 round Swiss, two games per round (78% play ratio), May 9, 2020 >>> Former Soviets - 8 round Swiss, two games per round (73% play ratio), May 10, 2020 >>> North America - 8 round Swiss, two games per round (73% play ratio), May 17, 2020 >>> Latin America - 11 round Swiss, two games per round (73% play ratio), May 24, 2020 >>> Europe - 22 round Swiss, one game per round (71% play ratio), May 30~31, 2020 (Two-day tournament) >>> Worldwide - Double Elimination, best of 3, June 06~07, 2020 (Two-day tournament) >>>
On May 01 2020 20:25 Hatchet_man wrote: Ok, so this is actually Swiss Tournament format. One last question: what does "play ratio" mean?
It's the percentage of the game number if everyone played everyone. So for example Polish tourney: 35 games in this swiss system, if everyone played everyone then 45. => ~78%

Yeah that sounds like an overkill, Brain please consider that many people wont even be able to play for that long. Unless RCG stands for Russian Cyber Gulag lol.
is there possibility of preplaying matches or playing later? I see just 1 tour on sunday for NA. I cant play sundays unfortunately. At least not during the hours the tournament is scheduled on. Maybe I could play them earlier or later in the day..?
Or if we could split the tournament into 2days as terror is saying..
PL: 2 games per round. 7 Rounds. = 14 games for one day. FSU: 2 games per round. 8 Rounds. = 16 games for one day. NA: 2 games per round. 8 Rounds. = 16 games for one day. LatAm: 2 games per round. 11 Rounds. = 22 games for one day. EU: 1 game per round. 11 Rounds per day = 11 games per day. Two days. WW: Bo3 every round. Up to match #104 during the first day, and the rest during the second day. Up to 15 games every day (considering every score 2:1).

A lot. Yet, endurance is a part of a competition.
It's a good change for the eu quali, 11 games seems much more doable.

Unfortunately not. Please try to arrange a day off for the day of quali.
So.. each player in latam has to play 22 games, it'll be like 7 hours of constant games, but it'll be actually longer than that considering the breaks between games. Isn't that too much? wouldn't it be better if it was split in two or three days? I mean it's not like we are in a rush and the LAN tournament starts in 2 weeks after the qualifiers or something.

It is funny I actually played him on one of the last days and was really supprised how easily he countered my wraith play, especially that my previous games vs him were one sided stomps LOL. Also latency was even worse than usually, tr8 where I usually get tr12 or 14 vs Peruvians.

Thank you. Let's see what will happen in the future.
I was also a sinner in one BSL match and I confessed in discord to the whole community. I banned myself indefinitely and pledged myself to help Starcraft in any way I can as I have repented for my sins and pray to the lord for mercy every day. The SA amigos are not bad but are most likely poor like me o_0. It shall come to pass! Forgiveness and grace is given to all who trust in God and good!

is this a new era where everyone will just do bad stuff and then apologize and bring God into play and everyone else would just accept and forgive?

We are all sinners buddy and Jesus said it not me. I however can prove that you are also as I have to everyone who has come close to me! Now the lord says he would give everyone a chance who repents and begs for forgiveness. Have you? I truly hope so and if you haven't I will include you in my daily prayers.

There is still the 2 spots in the World Qualifier tournament and another one in the Wildcard tournament, so Eon is not out yet
I will be trying WW but in case i dont qualify i think thats it for me, unless there is someone willing to sponsor my entry in the wildcard tourney is gonna be hard.
WW: Bo3 every round. Up to match #104 during the first day, and the rest during the second day. Up to 15 games every day (considering every score 2:1).
A lot. Yet, endurance is a part of a competition.
World qualifier starts tomorrow 11 CEST on op rcg2020, Korea Server liquipedia.net
we will finish all round 4 games, up to game 76 in the bracket tomorrow, rest on sunday!
Last call to accept the pending invitation in order to play tomorrow goes to:
No, the previously qualified players are already excluded from the bracket, no slots were filled with fresh players. It was the same for the eu qualifier.
Brain intends to keep the competition tight on the top level, thats the reasoning why no fresh players fill the slots.

B...but that's mathematically wrong!
Double elimination operates on the same basic Log₂(N) logic as single elimination, but with a bunch of complications which turns it into something more like 2*Log₂(N)
According to what i see in challonge, there were 21 players, which rounds up to 32. This gives us 10 rounds (With 10'th round being the unnecessary grand finals) If there were 64 players, it'd be 12 rounds (With 12'th again being unnecessary in our case)
Of course there is also the problem that each round is played as long as the longest match in it, so with more matches there is a higher chance of some TvT stalling the entire bracket, but thats beyond the scope of this simle calculation

This is the problem, yes. And your not taking into account that with more players, there is more chance of high waiting time because a player is afk 10 minutes before the start of the series for example. In other words, all matches of a given round are not played out as simultaneously as one could assume.
However, i will gladly declare Rus_Brain was wrong in his statement.. for a small donation of 10$ to the prizepool ofc.
I've been planning to donate anyway, but you made me do it sooner

How were these groups picked, was there any draw that was casted live, tiers of players, or just out of nowhere, without any announcement, we are presented with completely unequal groups?

Randomly generated groups with random.org, cast live @ Discord for qualified players with the proper announcement, and you are presented with allegedly unequal groups. Randoming via random.org result in the same as running live show drawing machines.
Although one may complain groups are unbalanced by players tournament performance, groups are balanced by Ladder stage mmr and race distribution.
PL may want to complain about no chance of getting to top-4, but neither chances for LatAm or Rusland which I would like to avoid first; and g0rynich second year in a group of death which I would like to avoid next.
Congrats to Gosudark for winning the WC, and good luck to everyone going! I wish I could be there, but will sit at home in Norway cheering my titties off. Specially GL to my boys Oya, Casper,Trutacz, Terror, Koget, Bonyth.
Can someone send me a video of bakuryu talking/drinking? Asking for a dinho.
¡Aterrorizado! ¡Esperándoos, hombres!
Can' t wait for the Russian Cyber Games to start in September!
this is amazing accomplishment, i am very grateful for what Rus Brian, and all the crew, all the players, what everybody is doing to create an international tournament that is beyond what i believe anyone could have possibly imagined until a couple of years ago. Great stuff! Hype!
Hope corona restrictions will be lowered by then and situation improves. For LAN events there's that risk still (and for international flights especially).

Guderian and Hoth were neither pleased.
Based on my understanding, Hoth was none too pleased with the scorching temperatures of the Caucasus either, so there was really no pleasing these two individuals. All I know for sure is that these individuals are not to blame for any "perceived" shortcomings.

Anyways, back to topic, we're all hoping its gonna happen this year. Live events are hard in corona times ):

Just Eywa things. Probably jealous that someone can actually run events of this magnitude while Baseball Card Gate led him to be a laughing stock of the community.

I was talking about Hoth and Guderian (as Rus_Brain mentioned them by name) and their post-war narrative. My bad, wasn't meant to be heavy subject matter.
Also, agree, I hope this does manage to happen & we don't have too bad of a COVID relapse.

1st of all, I do take rumors and public topics seriously when they can impact my team or my own reputation. For the reason I take rumors seriously, I allowed myself an extended timeout to let everyone come down. For the reason I do care, I believe I should respond properly.
2nd, I do believe Rapid did as a complete morron.
Before making a proper decision, I have had conversations with other guys and girls (who's identities is my sole liberty not to say), and the sole verdict is that Rapid deserves punishment. Yet, making your life's dumbest actions known to thousands of people who know you is a very good punishment alone.
Perhaps, what he does deserve best is a good (perhaps face damaging) talk with a girl's dad or elder brother.
However, most community members who speak from tl.net tribune are bloodthirsty. Admins of some groups do follow public opinion. Some of these, for example, made Rapid's casting career further impossible. I won't immediately follow. I find it quite an Orwell's crime thought police response, black-and-white of whether one is guilty or not, and thus, is free to go, or should be electric chaired immediately. No defense, no jury, no probation.
Luckily enough, court responses are still weighted to a level of guilt more than to a public noise. One left free, another gets a sentence. Yet, a third one can get a suspended sentence. This means one is free to go, subject to a further breach of probation conditions will get him barred for an extended term. For this reason, I won't expel Rapid from the tournament cast. I leave a chance to regain credibility. As a probation condition, Rapid is coming to Russia at his own expense.
I do respect that it may be troublesome watching Rapid's stream for someone. I find it a solid decision to make a choice of two English streams. Yet, I urge you to respect the depth of my pockets and cover the cost difference. Rapid's flight tickets are $400, and he has a three-year Russian visa done. Check the air flight fare of the one you offer, add ~$200 gross visa expenses, less $400 and you will get the part due from you.

i support the decision made by you here Rus_Brain, for the general public i'd also like to elaborate a bit on why i do:
When i first read the thread about the sexual misconduct by Rapid and others, my first intention was to say "let us wait until Rapid posts his side of the story before we make up our mind; at that point it was barely 72 hours or so after the thread was opened. I usually like to make up my own mind after i know all the relevant facts.
At this point, obviously also because apparently rapid did not deny the allegations when he talked to you, it seems obvious he did those things. From what i understood, he sent unsolicited Picks of his Dick to multiple women and tried to "flirt" with them in a way that can only be described as very inappropriate and very creepy.
To be clear, condemn that harshly, as every reasonable person would do. Another thing i observed when interacting in the above linked thread is that your statement

is very true. A lot a people actually did not care to ask if there was a second side of the story when it was still a very reasonable thing to ask and the same people do not care to wage their understandable outrage against the damage that the punishment asked by them means to a person who earns his livelyhood by casting.
Im was no friend of Rapid before these facts became known or anything and i don't have a too good opinion about him know, but i strongly believe the "punishment" should be reasonable in relation to the offense. Rapids reputation isalready very tarnished by this point, it will take him a long time to get up his feet in this job again. You withdrew the privilege of covering his expenditures but don't exclude him directly. Strikes me as a fair decision.
Thats just my very personal opinion on the matter.
Hello, I'd like to formally announce my withdrawal from RCG 2020 after corresponding with Rus_Brain. This comes right after my unfortunate W.O. in BSL10. In the best interest of not wanting to repeat this occurrence in current circumstances, I leave my spot for someone more capable of going. Best of luck to RCG competitors/organizers.

I was invited to replace Ty2, however after some consideration I decided that I will not go. With the current plans to play in December, I think it is too risky for me to be travelling to Russia given the current covid19 situation. Thanks anyway, and GL
This has been a long-lasting discussion with all pros and cons carefully analyzed, however, I'd like to save most of your time, and I will be short.
It is very uncertain to host Offline Grand Final in Moscow during December 5~6 without the risk of having half of the participants left without entry permission.
My team of admins and I are converting RCG 2020 into a pure online tournament. I beg your pardon for not being able to fulfill part of this year's promise, yet, the circumstances are beyond my control and by far exceed my reserves.
Mr. Dawid ZZZero Pazdzior will help me with online stuff, being the best online tournament host out there.
The introvertic part of me is happy that i don't need to move to outside world, but i'm also really sad that i won't be able to see everyone face to face, which is why LAN events are so unique.
Sincere thanks to Rus Brain for the continuous support and interest in StarCraft scene. As for us players and viewers, let's make our best to promote Russian Cyber Games as much as possible.
Totally understandable. Unfortunately because of the current situation this is the only good solution in my opinion. I'm glad that by postponing 1 time you gave it a chance - but things didn't improve, so... I really hope all players will have webcam and we can see the feed during games!
GOGO RCG! It is still going to be a fantastic event, I'm sure!
And also don't forget, we need to donate in order to have RCG2021! Gogo SC fans!
It's the only good solution i agree. Its good to see RCG 2020 happen anyway and if zzzero brings his expertise in online production into it, this is gonna be pretty awesome!
