Facebook and Twitter have a bit too much people for me,
So I think I'll just write in SGall where I usually hang out.

I went into X-Team after I won the Leifeng Cup multiple times. They contacted me and asked if I could come in this season as a mercenary type player and bail them out of demotion level.

They said they couldn't pay me a stable income but would pay me for matches I played instead.

During that time, I played a lot of online matches. These were all online matches excluding playoffs, and being a mercenary didn't seem too bad so I said "OK". So starting on " 17 October 2015 ", I became an X-Team member, and " 25 October 2015 " was my first match.

The Chinese team leagues are divided into the First/Second half (like soccer), and there is a game
There are 8 teams total, and the first half has 9 games and the second half has 7 games.
The 7th and 8th rank teams are demoted.
X team was 7th.

We somehow got 3rd and we went into the playoffs, so I flew all the way over to Shanghai and we won.
Playoffs were " 25 December 2015 ~ 27 December 2015 ".

They called me over after the victory and we talked about contracts. There was a person from Douyu TV, my translator, and the X-Team managers Xiaose and F91.

While we were talking, I found out that if I take the streaming contract, I wouldn't be able to leave X-Team. When I asked why it was like this (since this was supposed to be only between me and Douyu TV, and I also had no dependable income from X-Team),

I was told that Douyu will provide my sustainable income and X-Team would invite me to every Chinese tourney. They said they would prove it by inviting me to the Kung Fu cup for starters. (They never invited me in the end, and I had to qualify.)

I told them I wanted a contract in Korean on the spot, and they told me that they didn't have one ready, and they would send it later by mail. This was the last time I ever talked with Xiaose, and I returned to Korea.

Xiaose told me I needed to cool off and he has never said " ByuN's behavior had not been very nice: demanding pay raises at the last minute before signing contracts, simply because he thinks he's the star player. "

(This is dubious in meaning. Depending on how you read Byun's original post, it can either translate into this, or to that Xiaose didn't even tell him that he needed to cool off. He responds straight towards the TL quote, so I would appreciate it if the OPer or anybody explained this. Did Xiaose specifically say that he said this to Byun, or was this in Xiaose's post alone?)

" 15 Februrary 2016 ", I recieved a Contract translated into Korean. If you could call it Korean. I asked them and apparently they didn't even use an actual Korean in translation, just a guy whose ancestor happened to be Korean.

At that point, Blizzard called me for the Shanghai All- Stars (27 March 2016) so I said that we could meet up and talk there, with an actual interpreter and a better Korean contract.

Until then, I've been looking into other players who streamed on Douyu with similar contracts (I guess), and I found out that the stream contract was indeed independant from the team contract, and the teams were paying them separately from Douyu.

So when I came to Shanghai, I told them that I wanted X-Team to pay me as well, like the other teams were doing for the pros. X Team told me absolutely not.
I then said that would need a raise on the streaming platform if X-Team was not going to provide me with actual income.

The people said they would think about this but ultimately declimed.

X-Team was going to sign me for 2 years but I can't play on a team that won't pay me anything for 2 years.

OP summary with personal opinion.

1. X-Team called me over as a mercenary for only 1 season.
2. After we won the playoffs they wanted to sign a binding contract with me, but with no pay.
3. Stream deal was, and is separate for many pros.
4. Korean contract was absolute rubbish. Couldn't even understand.
5. Xiaose never said to me in person that I was just one of many Chinese players, and I tried to be too much of a star.

Personal Opinion.
1. X-Team was 7th, and Byun basically won them everything. There are so many games where X Team loses everything but Byun steps in (as a merc) and gives them the free wins for victory. I think that Byun actually should be considered a star player at this point....

2. Xiaose keeps on saying that the X-Team and Douyu TV are separate things, but why would he try to make Byun sign a 2 year binding contract based off of Douyu TV? If it was actually separate, it wouldn't have to matter. The fact that Douyu isn't paying if Byun doesn't stay on X-Team means that this is not separate from the team and the streaming platform.

3. Byun says he never called for double the income, just a raise. Unless Xiaose gets the Douyu TV official and the WCS Shanghai interpreter for ByuN to make statements, its his words against Byun's and I'm not going to make any comments.

4. Considering that Xiaose kept on trying to tie in Douyu TV's contract with the team contract, its kinda hard to believe that they are unrelated and Xiaose should pick a focking side to argue on and actually stay on that side

Douyu need xteam.ByuN but not cj.ByuN or others. If ByuN joins other team, douyu will not give ByuN streaming contract
And about the Kungfu cup, there are only four invitation places—three european players and last champion
so it's just a communication problem

EDIT:

xiaose's story on the contract issues:

1) it is douyu's idea to have the contract mandating him staying on X-Team, to them XT.Byun is valuable, whateverelse.Byun is not.

2) it seems there is a communication issue between Byun, XTeam and Douyu, not sure if it is the translator's fault, Byun's initial requested figure isn't far from acceptable numbers, but the number Douyu received end up being double the figure for whatever reason.

Hum the contract binding part is interesting... that doesn't sound particularly well.

If we take Byun at his word, it seems to me like he found out other streamers were getting paid by both Douyu AND their teams. So in asking his team to pay him as well as receiving the streamer payments from Douyu, i can see how this would wind up being double the cost. Its possible the distinction wasn't made by Byun in who was responsible for which part of the payment, and hes only concerned with the final figure (reasonably so).

This is all he-said-she-said for now.....

My personal take on the entire thing base on what I know:

It isn't necessarily either XTeam (xiaose and F91) or Byun's fault. To X-Team, after the success of bringing Byun on board, naturally you want to extend the partnership, while also provide the player compensation with their ties to douyu. Again, for douyu only XT.Byun is valuable, whateverelse.Byun is not, so asking/requiring Byun to stay on XTeam is what they want, is that reasonable? Yes. Can Byun turn that down? Of course he has the rightful reason to because that is not the norm.

While on Byun's side, he just went through some tough years of his career, now that he suddenly became one of the most popular Korean players in the Chinese scene, him wanting some paygrade to match his reputation is not a far stretch. And as a teamless player, money could be an issue.

Problem is, either from poor communication caused by language barrier, or culture differences, both parties have different expectations towards each other. XTeam out of good will, thinks he might return the favor, Byun out of his good skill and results, expected bigger fame and fortune. When things doesn't match, friction happens.

the ONLY OTHER korean SC2 streamer sign with Douyu is Parting, who said in an interview that he was willing to join X-team for free.
