at first i was curious why he did use those ellipses, so i PM'ed him - Carlodajin is a very friendly guy, and even though he has a crazy passion for protosses and AnyTime and WCG, it doesn't mean people should go ahead and go nuts about his writing. once is enough.

Granted every single quotation wasn't of the greatest quality, Carlodajin does indeed actually stay on topic. That's more than most of us can say (me included).
But it seems kind of unneccesary to make a thread about it. Granted a thread is a great way to grab the attention of the forum, and all of its members (especially the ones that like to target him), but I guess it just seems unfair that he gets special treatment and protection unlike everyone else.
It's none of my business, and I don't have a problem with him because the internet makes it far too easy to just ignore his posts - but singling him out with immunity is not only unfair, but probably unhealthy for him too.

It's horrific to read the strategy forum now-adays. it's better to not even post there. Everyone seems to do one build wonders that works up to ~C rank PGT then just shuts off and no one will fall to it anymore after that.

There are a few dedicated posters on this forum that have like 1k+ posts, when they post, 90% of the forum posters kiss their ass, when one person brings up a disagreement, even though it is valid and unoffensive they are flamed beyond beleif.
When a dedicated poster -1k posts makes a post sometimes they are supported, but one person who is a bit popular among the forum will flame them, and then everyone will follow suit.
The thing that separates this forum from GG.net is that there are dedicated posters, and all content and threads are screened (GG.net + other forums willingly allow bullshit to clutter their sites ie. 5 apm threads a week). Unfortunately, too many posters on TL.net and any other website, have the maturity of a twelve year old, and too many others are willing to quote a flame and put a lol, or just add to it.
Please dont make this website a playground for little kids *cough* GG.net *cough*. If anyone remembers that TL.net pet peeve thing, there was a few pages flaming mynock and his -mynock signing thing but it was a good laugh and no one got genuinely offended, but with carlodajinn it is just fucked up.
Even though I've never flamed Carlodjan directly, I have thought ill of him just because of how other people thought or I thought owuld think of him (Crazy sentence). Meh...recognizing one's own problems and admitting them is probably a good way to come clean.
He doesn't really over react over the trolls too bad though.. I seen a few threads and he just sorts of brushes it off cooly. Then gets back on topic, and yet people STILL flame him.

I had a realization after reading your post.
He's becoming more modernized. He used to mostly post about WCG 2000/2001/2002, but he's made a leap forward and now he talks about So1 Starleague. Soon he might be up to date and talking about modern tournaments like Shinhan 3 / GOM MSL. [There are some exceptions. He talks about WCG 2006 and IEST 2006.]
With this trend, he may become a good poster in short order.

It's because Carlodajin tends to bring "BEAR OF KOREA," "LEGEND OF KOREA", "SO1 OSL," "WCG LEGEND," into everything, no matter how unrelated. Then he brags about different players but says stupid things like how Yellow was 3rd place IEST, not how Yellow is a PRO IN KOREA and has had a ton of 2nd place finishes.

Manifesto is protecting a guy he banned a couple months ago? Unless that wasn't him but it seems like it must have been.
The mods have decided that his ignorant posting is not ban worthy, so he isn't banned. Now, accepting that he'll be around, the constant bandwagon jumpping insults are annoying and unfunny.

It's really really annoying. Mani is being kind warning you that that type of lameassery is unacceptable when you should all have seen this coming anyway.
Even though I have never participated in the mimicry myself, ellipsis abuse creates posts that are sloppy and very difficult to understand. It's good to know he has been approached, I had to assume he hasn't since that information has never been posted until now to my knowledge and he certainly has not changed his behavior in response to such an approach. Which he ought to, or face consequences since it's clearly bad forum etiquette. He continues, in his goodhearted way, to spam up the forum with as you put it so eloquently "shitty posts".
As long as he continues to be a "shitty poster" and mods continue to defend him they are indeed defending garbage posts.
Carlodajin tries to contribute. The problem is, he doesn't do it well. So there is potential. My post you linked to was directed more at the type of people who had no desire whatsoever to contribute something meaningful to TL.net. Does that mean Carlodajin ever will? Maybe not. But the point is he's trying. And if he never gets there... we'll see.
I've got to confess, I've always felt a little sorry for CarloDajin. At first I thought he was a troll or something, but he seems to be genuine about his posts, and even if his posts are not always of the highest quality, he is putting effort in to contribute in a forum whose language is not his own first language--more effort than frankly 90% of the posters here who have english as their first language. I don't necessarily agree with the content of them, but he seems to genuinely enjoy the game, and he is really persistent. A lot of the users here bandwagon on hating him, and if I were him I would feel sad and leave the site :[. But he doesn't, so he has my respect for that.

I think the main issue is not the ellipses, but rather, frankly, how absurd he is as a character. If his IP and everything have been checked into, and he's not a fake personality (ie. he doesnt match anyone else's i.p., like, say, all of those guys from peru or w/e that used to cause so much trouble iirc), than he should be left alone. But I think what people are reacting to is his over-the-top likeness to a completely fabricated personality. His comedic timing is strikingly convenient imo, and he's oblivious to a degree I can't quite believe. I mean really, how do you post in a loong thread full of people asserting that they don't like your ellipses usage with a completely exaggerated example of what they are talking about? Also, is he supposedly from Korea, or peru? If he's peruvian, why does he talk about insulting Koreans?
I guess I just feel like his level of English doesn't match his level of not-born-yesterdayness, which makes me disbelieve him. But, again, if it's been checked into and mani says so, I believe him.
That said, there's never any reason to harass someone, fake or not. If he's fake, just ignore him and he'll get bored and stop. If he's not fake, then definitely don't harass him, because he's clearly a very innocent, and very young person. (Which brings up another question.... what's the age limit for this site? he did those at the end of sentences so its actually readable (kinda).
For what it's worth, all my Korean friends use INSANE amounts of ellipses in their writing. When I asked why, they said it was representative of the pause their mind takes whilst constructing the sentence.
So... when you want to write something... and you're thinking.. ahmmm.... what next... you put ellipses to represent those pauses... just like you would pause in real life... whilst you were thinking of what to say next... make sense?

i feel inclined to post because i was the first to comment on his constant use of ellipsis in the op's linked thread. here's the thing - heart is one matter in posting, and quality is another. disregarding his content (which is, as pointed out before, often inaccurate), since we are all at fault for making shitty posts sometimes: before he was banned from his first account, he had been requested multiple times to change his post formatting. this isn't even an issue of a language barrier or adjusting scenario - the 'spunk' you guys praise him for ignoring all requests comes off as stubbornness and an inability to listen to others. since when can someone completely ignore conventional posting etiquette and make hopelessly ugly posts and expect respect?
that being said, that was the second or third time i've pointed out my irritation to him. i know i come off harsh but i'm civil and don't intend for people to continue bashing him, it's just that it's a complete turn-off to come by his posts. the ease with which he could stop it all is added insult to injury. by constantly adding periods, he's doing extra work to specifically attain the convoluted post structure that's grown nearly ridiculous. he hurts himself, too, in that all of his posts end up having the same signature appearance, making all the statistics he quotes and potentially good comments he makes seem identical from post to post.
i agree that the flaming stop, but to help us understand him and to allow himself to communicate precisely (necessary to this forum), he really needs to give a little.

I have to admit that I am one of the 'trollers' that have been constantly mocking Carlodajin. At the beginning when he first appeared I was more surprised and amused than angry or irritated, and found it quite funny, 1 post count post of WCG 2000, 2001, 2002 or something along those lines.
However these days I see more and more of his posts, and basically all of his posts have been slimmed down versions of his very first thread about WCG, SlayeRs_BoxeR, AnyTime, and stuff like that, though I do have to say that his posts have been becoming more...update, as someone else has mentioned in this thread earlier.
I completely agree with the people that have said that it is not so much his writing style that is annoying, it's more about what he writes about that has gotten on my nerves over this...half a year-ish.
Looking at the post I quoted, it's clear that nobody has insulted any Koreans in this thread, let alone any other threads, and even if it was an 'insult' (the Matler vs. Holy Nal_Ra threads might have mentioned something about immature /ignorant Koreans or something...) I don't think anyone really HATES Koreans here, being an international website dedicated to coverage and delivering information on the professional Starcraft scene in Korea.
Anyway his posts have just been starting to piss me off really badly, it seems like he has no idea what other posters are posting about at all or maybe he's on of the people that don't read any other posts in a thread except the one they want to reply to. Plus the fact that ANY post about ANY other topic than WCG or Boxer will descend into some sort of strange WCG or So1 OSL, Anytime, Koreo-philic post.

To be honest I had noticed neither carlodjins tendency to overuses ellipses nor the excessive inflammatory posts in response. Poor english certainly doest bother me, as not all of us here are native English speakers. Like Drone explained, a couple of guys commenting on his "...'s" here and there would've been acceptable, but in a thread I just checked the four posts that immediately followed his were inflammatory. I think thats just too much, and the flamers need to realize its their devoid of content, flaming posts that take up a third of the page that damage the quality of the thread.
As far as the content of his posts goes, he may be wrong sometimes, and his opinion and favorites might differ from yours, but thats not reason enough to incessantly flame him. And as Manifesto pointed out, its obvious he has a passion for the game, and thats got to mean something, right?

I still don't understand why the admins are trying to change everyone else's behavior but Carlodajin. It seems that the problem can be fixed in two ways:
-Get Carlodajin to stop making himself a joke, breaking the rules while he does it. -Ban everyone else.
If you look at his posts the English is good enough if he doesn't block the entire screen out with ellipses. The post he made in this thread about people being supportive was actually good, and if it was made readable by subtracting about 20 "..." it really would contribute something. I am not sure why the simpler method of getting Carlodajin to post like a regular person was not taken and instead we have this thread devoted to protecting him.
It's like Bizarro world. The mods are rushing to Carlodajin's posting style defense instead of fixing the problem at the source, and are using bazookas to handle the problems it causes. There is a real problem with Carlodajin's posts in terms of both quality and ellipsis abuse and I think that unless that cause is addressed directly you're going to have a lot of people upset and trying to moderate the forums themselves with constant bad behavior
I'm kind of indifferent about this whole situation, but that's mostly because I think carlodajin is a shit poster and I banned him before. Mani disagreed with me though so he was allowed back I guess.
I dont think he is a great poster either, but I also dont think he is doing anyone any harm. The reason I posted this was the fact that other people were doing far more harm than he was by flaming him. Hopefully now that will stop. I will also be PMing carlosdjini about his posting.

there's no fucking "acceptable way of writing" formula that everyone has to follow if there were, most people would fall outside it. maybe carlo falls more outside the formula some posters appear to think is in existance than most others, but there isn't one. moltkewarding can criticise every poster on the forum if you allow yourselves to think carlodajin's style is subject to critique.
flaming him for content is different tho. but out of every flame I saw directed towards him (noted that I have not been reading much), they were all geared towards his style of writing even when the content in his post was wrong.
