Outside of sentimentality, there's really no good reason why any group of people would want to be part of Russia. Exactly how do you make an empire if your economy and political system crashes every 30 years or so?

In fact, I'll take it as proof that the FSB and Spec Ops forces are involved. Why would any country in their right minds, and uninfluenced by spec op soldiers, want to become like Russia? Nobody wants to be a part of Russia, certain people from Lviv and Kiev have it in their heads that they are the only Ukrainians in the country and the only ones 'Ukrainian' enough to rule. These people in eastern Ukraine just want their rights back and to not have to fear catastrophic revolutions every time someone from the east or south of the country wins an election.
Are you aware of the fact that Yanukovych stole enormous amounts of money from the people, used snipers on protestors and fled to Russia? He is a criminal and should be arrested. He stole from east as much as from west so he is no good for anybody. And what are these rights eastern ukraine want back?

LOL. EVERYONE is brainwashed. If you can't understand this, then you're a fool.
But back to the topic: If the East Ukrainians reject West Ukraine, and by extension Western Europe, to whom can they turn to in order to revive their doomed economy?

West Ukraine is a dead horse - they can't work and they don't want to so they are doomed without East - that's why they don't want East go

Once again: If the East Ukrainians reject West Ukraine, and by extension Western Europe, to whom can they turn to in order to revive their doomed economy?
EDIT: In other words, perhaps it's time that East Ukrainian insurgents think very, very carefully about what they want? If they reject the Kiev government, and the West, to whom can they turn to for help?

of course they turn to Russia - we buy a lot of things from them, some military stuff, food, etc.

Exactly. Russia's little bitc-es.
Once again: do East Ukrainians want to be ruled by the Kiev government, or by Putin?
EDIT: I have to go. Talk to all of you later. Good times!

the funny shit is that as a russian citizen i would not want to have Donetsk and Co as part of my country. Then again nobody asked me, if i wanted to have Crimea too ... Good times!

I'm sure Yanukovych was the reason that the moment they seized power, Maidan formed their own personal military paid for with the people's money. it's his fault that they stopped sending money to the real Ukrainian military and the actual soldiers started starving so they could pump more funds into their private military. It's not like that same military is killing Ukrainian citizens as we speak in eastern Ukraine.
That 17 billion IMF money that has to be paid back is really useful.
B-b-but armed people in eastern Ukraine! When protesters in Libya and Syria started blowing up buildings and murdering police some people on this site proclaimed them saints of democracy, like the founding fathers, except nicer. The government in Kiev is about as legitimate as a bunch of Southerners storming the White House and raising a Confederate flag because 'people in the south wanted it'.

The interim government of Ukraine was elected by the previous government of Ukraine, which everyone accepted as legitimate. How is that like 'people storming the White house'?

Its also part of the reason why I visit this thread less and less, and I would think many others are getting tired too. It just seems like a place for pro-Russian extremists to post their biased views. Everything presented is spinned to such a degree that its pointless to come here for any real information; its just non-stop responses to their posts which seem identical to what a troll would write. I don't think TL mods have the right to do anything by their own commandments, but I'm betting it would be way nicer and actually informative to visit this thread for 95% of the community if they were temp-banned.

Aah, World War 2 - Ukrainans murdering Poles, Poles murdering Ukrainans, Russians and Germans just generally murdering anyone that they found (Germans were a bit more organized though). Good times, good times. Feels like it was just yesterdays doesn't it?
PS. Ukrainans and Poles got a bit unfairly brought out here probably - I'm sure everyone tried to get their murdering in at the time (was just reading about the Volhynia mess).
Edit: fixed probalby to probably.

Yeah, kind of difficult to take a thread seriously when a regular poster was able to make claims 19th century France was a better place than today. Kind of given hope for this thread after that even though I still look at posts providing some media sources.
It's already pretty hard to get a clear/real picture of the current situation without people on TL adding confusion and stupidity.
