One of the suspects was the student from Brown University who went missing last month, supposedly he went to terrorist training camp. This is a video his family and friends made for him, I can't imagine what they're going through now.

Eh, I think it's just coincidence, really. It's also telling how much humans look for patterns. The month of April is an arbitrary bound. Do you remember the Dorner incident? That was in February, not that long ago. The Arkansas oil spill? Few weeks ago. The shooting at MIT is highly publicized because it happened on a highly visible university campus, involved a police officer, and happened shortly after another tragedy that also brought a lot of attention to the nearby area. People don't think about the numerous gun-related homicides that happen everyday on a national basis because it's just not news worthy. Maybe if it were less common, but sadly that's not the case. If you average gun-related deaths, you get around 3 per hour and ~7 people are shot every hour. Per day around 30 are murders and 50ish are suicides. The statistics paint a pretty grim picture. At the very least maybe these incidents will cause more people to realize the problems we have.
