It’s almost like people said their peice and then moved on.

What commercial? And why should it have been controversial?

Opportunistically commercializing a famous civil rights leader and his speech on greatness? Meh... I think the commercial was fine.
The amusing part is that the remainder of that speech is about how advertisers trick people into thinking possessions reflect self worth. You know, standard Christian anti-capitalism stuff. But it specifically poops on ads for trucks.

Not bad. Wish it would be a little better synced, but the irony of the other half of the speech running completely contrary to the ad is not lost on me.

The fact that it recuperates everything and turns it to its profit is what makes capitalism such a resilient system. Ask the counter cultures of the 70’s, urban music or that Che guy that went from marxist gureillero to the best overpriced t-shirt seller of all time.

Yeah, people have been murdering people for a long time too. Doesn't make it any better.
What makes me upset is why people don't even know MLK was anti-capitalist (at least socialist) because the Federal Government was trying to end his life and then the educational system went along with whitewashing it out of the classroom. If people knew that, Dodge wouldn't have exploited his legacy to sell their shitty trucks. And it's Black History Month ffs

America can do military parades, and does them all the time. It's called Memorial Day.
This is actually an insult to Memorial Day -- which rightfully holds the mantle for military parades. IDC about the politics. Let this be a one-time only affair. Let Trump have his Dear Leader moment, then this useless insult needs to be put to rest, permanently. My brother died in Afghanistan. Parades are for him. Not political rapists.
If the streets of DC can't handle the vehicles I can't think how the parade could happen. I mean they could drive Humvees around but that's not that exciting.
Actually there's a misconception here that a +60 ton tank, for example, would always visibly damage paved streets. It's not necessarily true as there are rubber pads or inserts that can be used on the tracks to spread the weight of the tracks. Also it depends on the asphalt itself.
Even if it decreases the lifespan of the streets that’s actually pretty egregious co spidering the state of dc traffic.
Not actually advocating an actual parade, although I do believe there are upsides to actually having such an event. However a parade is usually bettered by other PR and outreach events where the military can showcase their equipment to taxpayers. Motivations seem to be different in this case however. Anyway it's been beaten to death already, I was just late to the party.

Didn’t some Tea Party dude made a speech about Jesus being a capitalist? In general, voting for a party that motto really should be “fuck the weak and the poor” and pray for a religion that talks all day long about humility, compassion, brotherhood and acceptance, must make one really bullet proff to cognitive dissonances.
Now, one should not be surprised that MLK has been transformed into a benign, consensual figure and stripped of anything controversial or subversive. We live in a society that loves to keep the most consensual and put under the carpet anything that could make people think and question the established order in its icons.
There is a lot of interesting stuff in there but of course that's not what gets the hook in the tweet. Too many reporters are garbage.
Although that is true, reporters don’t get to pick their headlines either. Or what their co-workers pull from their articles to quote in a tweet.
I forget who said it, but I remember a reporter saying it's usually a good guess to blame an editor if the presentation or the headline looks very off. I'd like to see more news sources put an editor in the byline too, because you can't ignore how much of an influence they have on the story.

That wouldn't be bad. Online articles are also strange because they will adjust the headlines until they get reasonable traffic on the article. And reporters are on to the next story while that is happening.
Trump is gracious. He trots me out like a prize horse..... oh wait.... and also do legislation things, yeah! But ask me more about "wurk" when we're back in Washington, I have to remember how to trot on command!
