If trump thinks the PM of Japan cannot speak English, or his wife...Most kids in Japan speak English even if it's broken. And they sure as hell understand basics of English. If I was PM Abe, I'd demand an apology. Or seppuku.

One of Lincoln's key goals during the Civil War was to keep England from supporting the South, which is another reasons, why he thought emancipation was the right move. Because the British crown changed their stance on slavery. (Source) Abolitionists reluctantly supported Lincoln, kind of like conservatives and some evangelicals reluctantly supported Trump ![]()

These days that's more than a lot of southerners will concede. "Muh states rights!" Eh, that depends on how you define "what the conflict was over." The South seceded over slavery, but the Union didn't start the Civil War to free the slaves either.

Good news for campus free speech: as opposed to Middlebury, Claremont-McKenna decided on real punishments for the protestors that blocked all public entrances do Heather McDonald's talks and prevented the scheduled dinner.

Good for them! Stupid college protests to prevent someone from even speaking in the first place should be punished. Though I don't actually agree with the author that those students should have been immediately expelled. I think that's overly harsh.

Edit; The college protesters didn’t seem to be the problem. Berkley was experiencing this weird influx of protesters from outside areas that were set on property destruction. I’m pretty sure if it was only the students protesting, the college could have handled it.

The civil war was about slavery. that the Souths economy was dependent on slavery and had been dependent on slavery from the birth of the union. That they didn't like that the north was now able to ignore the souths wish's with the immigration from European nations is only tangential to that they didn't have the power anymore to keep slavery. The states rights argument was only to serve their ability and argument to keep slaves. The civil war was about slavery. It was going to happen from the start of the nation and everyone knew it was coming.

Great news indeed. These types who try to prevent speeches from taking place are a disgrace.
