I cannot be sure; she might win anyways; but it'd be a much different race. This race is so strange in many ways it makes all predictions harder. Jeb's problem wasn't being ordinary, imho it was that he really didn't seem interested in the position. that and the general anti-establishment vibe, and not wanting another bush. also, what plays in the primary, and what wins the general have always been somewhat different. one another note is that a lot of people voting for hillary are doing so simply because they feel a need to vote against trump, viewing him as utterly unfit; so that wouldn't apply if it was a more normal candidate.

Trump's divorce records with Ivana are pretty disturbing too, including quotes from Trump Jr. Guess he might be as filthy as Bill Clinton. Isn't Trump still going to trial for racketeering, too? I feel like no one talks about that much, but whenever people are like, "Man the Clintons are so dirty," I always think, "Yeah, but so is Trump."

Every act of terror and lawlessness goes in his favor, and with further email leaks coming I don't see the trend changing. It will be the democrats who have to evaluate how on earth they put a candidate so poor that she could lose to Trump. I'm not convinced of their self reflective ability however, as they will just blame the 'deplorables' for their loss and not their own incompetence. This argument assumes a fundamental inaccuracy in basically all polling since the conventions.

Neither party wants to admit they need to realign to be better able to appeal to voters, of course. The Republican Party was obtuse enough to push Jeb Bush of all people as their preferred choice. And I'd say that bashing Jeb really gave Trump a lot of clout in the primaries.

And how do people feel about it? This threshold sounds like it's designed to make it impossible for smaller parties/candidates to have access to the big scene.

Them being on the stage would just take time away from the real candidate. The electoral collage makes the US a two party system, trying to pretend its anything else is pointless.

Yeah well, when you get Clinton vs Trump as the result of your political system, you should maybe ask yourself a few questions...

People have been asking those questions for a long time, but getting 3rd party candidates into the debates is one of the least effective ways to fix the problem. It really wouldn't change anything. We need change to happen at a much more basic level.

Hillary's a competent debater when she's at her best. Her trouble is appearing personable and her hubris. She has a good shot at stopping Trump's momentum which is why I'll be watching the debate with interest. When there's seventeen people up on the debate stage to start, you have to ask a few questions. The plurality opposing Trump was split all over the damn place. It just makes the stage a morning zoo.

Plenty of people here have advocated fixing the system so that more parties become viable but your not going to do that by putting 4 people on stage instead of 2.
