http://www.politico.com/story/2016/09/trump-shatters-gop-records-with-small-donors-228338

All told, Trump is approaching, or may have already passed, $100 million from donors who have given $200 or less, according to an analysis of available Federal Election Commission filings, the campaign’s public statements and people familiar with his fundraising operation. It is a threshold no other Republican has ever achieved in a single campaign. And Trump has done so less than three months after signing his first email solicitation for donors on June 21 — a staggering speed to collect such a vast sum.

“I’ve never seen anything like this,” said a senior Republican operative who has worked closely with the campaign’s small-dollar fundraising operation. “He’s the Republican Obama in terms of online fundraising.”

Clinton counted 2.3 million donors as of the end of August, the result of decades of campaigning, a previous presidential bid and allies who painstakingly built her an email file of supporters even before she formally announced her second run. But Trump had zoomed to 2.1 million donors in the past three months alone, his campaign has said.

http://www.mediaite.com/tv/reporter-asks-clinton-whether-terror-attacks-were-secret-russian-plot-to-get-trump-elected/

“Are you concerned that this weekend’s attacks or potential incidents in the coming weeks might be an attempt by ISIS or ISIS sympathizers, or really any other group, maybe the Russians, to influence the presidential race in some way and presumably try to drive votes to Donald Trump, who is, as you’ve said before, widely seen as perhaps being somebody who they would be more willing to– or see as an easier person to be against?” she asked.

“Well, Jennifer, I don’t want to speculate,” Clinton said. “But here’s what we know. and I think it is important for voters to know and hear this and weigh it in making their choice in November; we know that a lot of the rhetoric we’ve heard from Donald Trump has been seized on by terrorists, in particular ISIS.”

I'm satisfied with that medical letter, glad the doctor finally wrote up a decent one. I have no real comment on the other issue, but have no dissatisfaction.

He isn't remembered for that and I would argue that a lot of shit that happened during the civil war shouldn't be taken as a model for future conflicts. The suspension of Habeus Corpus included.

Oh of course. I just think it is mildly amusing to put things into perspective.

"X is such a terrible thing"
"Y is such a great person in history"

Most people are unaware of or would even consider the possibility that Y could have done X. A great national hero widely admired by all in our modern society doing something we consider morally reprehensible is just one of those mildly amusing ironies of history.

Not really. I think most people with a working knowledge of history are pretty aware that the vast majority of people born before, say, 1950 in the west and probably 2050 in much of the rest of the world, were pieces of shit. If judged by current standards that is. Hell, our grandchildren will probably say the same of us. That's progress.

"Everyone who preceded me is a shitty person, everyone who comes from the rest of the world is shitty, but my culture and I have reached that tipping point where we have become good people."

That's pretty much what this statement is.

Only if you fail to read the second to last sentence or somehow fail to understand the entire idea. It's an evolution. At no point do you get to the finish line and become done. There is no tipping point where people become good. Just better. But yeah, western liberal culture is the best in the world right now in my opinion.

61% of the US population supports the death penalty (at least in principle). Obviously it's fairly prohibitive in terms of cost.

When the average American doesn't even have a 4 year degree, citing consensus as a justification for morality doesn't make much sense. Support of an idea being widespread does not make it morally justifiable. Consider the percentage of Egypt that supports various forms of barbarism that we scoff at. Sure, our country is significantly more educated, cultured and whatnot, but it is still an example of widespread support for complete horseshit. I know I don't need to bring up the typical example of slavery.

What is wrong with you calling 60% of the population disgusting? Maybe you should start to realize a sizeable majority of the US just straight up don't agree with you, so maybe you should change your outlook on the world and that it doesn't revolve around you instead of shitting on everyone?

http://www.gallup.com/poll/186218/solid-majority-continue-support-death-penalty.aspx

This is literally an appeal to majority, as in the classic error of judgement. If 60% of x country support stoning adulterers, you would defend that I assume?

No, but in the same sense I wont go call 25% of the US population deplorable, or call 60% of the population disgusting.

That is not how you achieve unity.

Seriously, I come to this thread frequently enough, and Plansix is such an awful shit poster who just tries to demonize everyone who doesn't agree with him. It's a very uninviting environment to have a conversation in.

This is a discussion board, not the UN. No one is going for "unity" here. This is a place of philosophical/ethical/political discourse, not bringing people together around a common goal.

Alright, I've gotten a bit worked up, because some people have had really bad arguments for the last hour or two, so I apologize if I'm being a bit rude or harsh.

That said, I completely disagree with you on anything to do with 4 year degrees here. Capital punishment is a question of morality and philosophy, that is not something that anyone should have a bigger voice on than someone else for, regardless of how much more educated and how much more money they have. Dealing with foreign relations, sure, let the experts do that, dealing with deciding whether the Death Penalty is just? No.

Do you know what Habeas Corpus is?

And habeas corpus is relevant here because.....?

because everything ? I guess we should just remove peoples rights when we feel like it. How very Repub... oh wait...

Nothing Fiwi said had anything to do with it, accept the part where he posted a twitter link with Trumps statement.

And how exactly is this post responsive to anything that I said?

You liberals need to calm the fuck down. You're all going bananas. There's going to be a new ICD code for Trump-related mental disorders at this rate. Posts like the above and kwarks are just utterly ridiculous.

Nope, Donald Trump is just that bad.

And yet, Donald Trump is basically tied with Hillary in the polls! I think its pretty amazing, in spite of everything that's happened, that its this close. I mean Hillary must be really, really untrustworthy to be on even footing with the hated "drumpf"! At some point its kind of embarrassing for liberals as well.

Ride the Trump train all the way to the white house, so much steam.

And yeah, solid health letter, he does indeed have high testosterone for his age lol. That probably puts an end to any Trump health speculation.

The White House will release guidelines for self-driving automobiles on Tuesday, as well as model legislation recommended to states that want to follow in the footsteps of California, Florida and Nevada, which have legalized automated vehicles.

The US Department of Transportation (DoT) will publish a new document containing “vehicle performance guidance for manufacturers, developers, and other organizations”, including a 15-point safety assessment auto-makers are being asked to sign and submit to the DoT.

The national highway safety and traffic administration (NHTSA) will also solicit public opinion about whether or not it should approve new self-driving models before they are allowed on the market.

In March, car manufacturers told Congress they believed their own internal standards were good enough to warrant approval. But in June, the question of safety in automated driving systems became far more urgent when a Tesla owner, Joshua Brown, died when his car’s autopilot sensors failed to detect a large tractor trailer against a bright sky.

The rules will define where self-driving cars can operate, how quickly they must react to failure, how they should perform after crashes and, though the rules mandate privacy protections, how system data should be recorded for “information sharing, knowledge building and for crash reconstruction purposes”. The guidelines outline validation and verification methods for automated driving systems.

Perhaps most significantly, there will also be ethical laws set out for roadway dilemmas.

Legislators warned automakers at the 15 March Senate hearing that the governing body took a dim view of the industry’s ability to self-regulate. “Someone is going to die in this technology,” Duke University roboticist Missy Cummings told the US Senate during a tense hearing where she testified alongside representatives from General Motors and Delphi Automotive, among others.

I don't get it. I can't imagine someone like this actually ends up working for Clinton. Is this not weird?

From what I understand this person didn't work directly for Clinton. They worked for the private firm that is the whole reason the email thing was an issue in the first place (and were probably in way over their head because this is not what their company should be doing).

Is anyone unsatisfied?

That's a medical letter, not a record - just pointing that out. And this was released like a week ago?

It can be both, no? It was released when he went on TV, yes, I try to follow this thread and to my knowledge it wan;t linked or commented on by people purporting to have reservations about Trump's condition.

Poor guy is going to take the fall like it was his idea. I feel like shame is the only appropriate emotion for Americans for this election.

Figure I'd throw in a reminder of what rhetoric from someone who actually wanted to rein in wall st would sound like.

"People like to look at history and think 'If that was me back then, I would have...' We're living through history, and the truth is, whatever you are doing now is probably what you would have done then" "Scratch a Liberal..."
