He was obviously the most qualified choice but everyone seemed upset that they didn't pick a younger but less experienced guy (Castro) or someone who has publicly known policy disagreements with the candidate (Warren). Of course Kaine was the right choice. It was obvious then and it's obvious now

Trump's the outsider candidate with a long list of establishment staff and endorsements of establishment candidates. It boggles the mind how abruptly he turned.

I don't want "exciting" politicians for the same reason I don't want "exciting" airline pilots.

he's not boring, he's just non controversial, effective and really nice. i cannot confirm or deny but i've heard from very smart people that kwizach was re assigned to another CTR project where david brock though he'd have more of an impact. that's not what i'm saying, it's what other people are saying.

It took two terms for Obama to close Gitmo and really I think he just shuffled the deck to another offshore site (minus the whole 'enhanced interrogation" *cough* torture). And now one of the next presidential candidates wants to go back to square one. I think the right to a fair trial is a fight worth winning in this modern era. So much for the progress of humans. We refight the same battles, and forget what we already know whether it is immunizations or the freedoms that create a just society. edit. On the other hand, it was the reporter that asked if he would use military tribunals to try US citizens, so this may be classic Trump ignorance. ie Gitmo is off US soil, therefore Gitmo = Safe and Good. And he simply doesn't recognize the difference between military trials vs civilian trials. Alternatively, maybe he's just used to talking and not listening to the question... being one that doesn't subscribe to "Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak..." I don't know which of these scenarios is worst, but none of them are particularly good. I hate to speak in zingers, but if Anwar al-Awlaki were held at Guantanamo, I legitimately don't believe he'd be entitled to a jury of his peers and so forth. I'm willing to believe Trump didn't really follow the question and think his answer through, but it's also media bait because there was only ever one US citizen at Guantanamo. But the military already plays by a separate set of rules in detaining people and trying people, trying foreigners in military tribunals, even courts-martial for US servicemen is a different justice system.

But the more I've heard him speak, the more convinced I've become that he is a good choice. He's had a questionable transition on the social issues (gay marriage and abortion), though Trump is not an ounce better. When he was first mentioned, I read into his political history and wondered if he was really mr moderate for the election. With foreign policy in the spotlight, his record on Islamists in the Middle East is very bad (one source apart from editorializing, it appears all this was swept under the rug). The last news story that I recall was on a strange decision while he was governor, here. It is for those reasons I question his judgment and thoroughly reject media characterization even in this election of misfits. I trust you'll find other sources addressing the same news stories if you doubt their sourced material and in-article links.

Anyways, I looked at Esam Omeish's wikipedia page. There definitely seems to be some bias in his favor on the page, but I don't see much of a problem.
