A formal announcement is expected to come on Friday in New York City. However, Trump’s communication office denied that a decision has been made.
Pence, 57, brings nearly four years of executive experience to the ticket and can help shore up Trump’s credibility among establishment holdouts within the GOP. The governor also seems to have met Trump’s stated preference of a running mate who can ably navigate the corridors of power in Washington ― Pence previously served 12 years in the House of Representatives, including two years as chairman of the House Republican Conference. Source ill hold my breath on this. could be bait and switch, could be trump figuring out who leaked this, could actually be the truth. AFAIK, only trump and his kids know the real choice come tomorrow Nah, he's the guy. There's a ton of details coming out regarding tomorrow's rollout.

I don't value posting on LL much at all: i can keep in touch with all the relevant people with skype or discord, and in the low percentile chance Trump does win, I'll need the ban anyways to make plans for dusting off my Canadian citizenship and moving. ban-betting on Hillary vs Trump is a bit of a Pascal's wager imo. If Trump wins then it would take more than 3 months before I wanted to read about anything politics related anyway. Which is why I made the bet.
I don't value posting on the forums that much anymore to boot so yeah.

query about best placement for a discussion: I want to run a poll on a question about minimum wage in the US; but this thread often moves fast, and a lot of people might miss it if I just put it in thread. But it isn't really worth a separate thread; perhaps I should do it in blogs and make a link here? Looking for thoughts on best venue for the discussion.

Blogs have terribly low traffic these days, not sure where I'd put a poll like that to be frank

I hope you keep it up. Even though I understand that with your background and knowledge the discussion here is bound to operate on a 'lower' level than what you idealize, I personally, and I find it likely that I am not alone, really appreciate your insight and the articles you link. I think it's hard for most of us to really engage with you - but we can still learn.

I second Drone's sentiment

I can't wait to see how people defending BLM shutting down highways react to the ironic headline that is bound to happen if this keeps up -
"Black Lives Matter shut down of highway leads to death of a sick/injured black man stuck in traffic unable to receive medical attention in timely manner"
"I guess he's just collateral damage for the cause, sacrifices must be made for the greater good if we want change" is the typical response I expect to see more of
Some of the more radical responses will probably be "blame white people for making BLM shut down highways in the first place"

I also Lord Tolkien contributions, which are generally better worded and though out than my own.

I know, it’s not like MLK ever blocked an entire bridge and then there was a movie made about it. Or got arrested for protesting. Or organized people to sit-ins at segregated restaurants so no one else could eat there. They just protested politely on the side of the street. "protesting only allowed in homeopathic dosage" I don't really know what people are upset about, compared to the vietnam war and civil rights era today's protesters are a complete joke. If BLM is dangerous what the hell was Mandela? Severely whitewashed. He really was. In the US he is regarded as a paragon of virtue and someone who everyone cites as such. That's not really a fair description of him.

He was a different man probably before and after his jail time. He showed incredible inspiring amounts of compassion for the white people in south africa and was able to unite the country around the rugby world cup by keeping the apartheid-era national rugby team and name that had been a symbol of white power for its existence.
Watch the 30 for 30; the 16th man its a really good documentary on Mandela and suth Africa.

One thing that Mandela deserves a ton of credit for is not going to full-Mugabe on South Africa. But he has gotten far better historical treatment than he really deserves.

Media is already pulling Pence gold:

"We will create 200 systems to verify who belongs here, but will do nothing to change the applications process for visas or the numbers given out. And heaven help you if this system shows a false positive ever, because we will deport you!"
Anyone find a speech here he talks about the LGBT community yet?

Its hard to really get worked up for these when you compare them to Hillarys skeletons.
