The NYPD cop who claimed he was successfully suppressing crime in the subways he patrolled, secretly taped his supervisors ripping into him for not stopping enough minority teenagers or writing summonses. Officer Michael Birch was placed on special monitoring in 2011 by then commanding officer Constantin Tsachas for low activity. Birch was excoriated by the captain for making only four arrests in a nine-month period, four stop-and-frisks in six months, and nearly half the persons he stopped for jumping turnstile were female. The cop acknowledged that black and Hispanic teens commit most of the crimes in the subway. "You described for me who's committing the crimes and you're not targeting those people," Tsachas complained on the tape obtained by The Daily News. Birch insisted that were no crimes committed in stations while he was working, but that did not satisfy his numbers-hungry boss. "What are you doing to help me fight crime with two arrests," Tsachas said. "Other kids (younger cops) with less time (on the force) are doing a great job for me. They're taking bad guys off the street. I can't see how you're helping me with two arrests." "You could be out there and nothing is happening in front of you," he fumed. "Another guy you could've stopped and committed a crime, you can't measure. The pro-active is not there." NYPD officials have insisted for decades that there is no quota for summonses, arrests, or stop-and-frisk reports. Birch alleged in a lawsuit filed earlier this year in Brooklyn Federal Court that he was punished for not meeting quotas. A lieutenant present at the sit-down told Birch that "getting one or two (stop and frisk reports) a month … I think is very easy … You have the blinders on." Tsachas was recently promoted by Police Commissioner Bratton who dismissed any suggestion that the high-ranking cop had done anything improper. Birch's lawsuit, which was first reported by The News, was dismissed by Federal Judge Brian Cogan because the statute of limitations had passed on many of his claims, but he is appealing the decision. His lawyer did not return a message. Best of luck to this guy. This is the root problem with some police, they see a day without an arrest as a bad day.

Ohio white voters: Trump, 43% Clinton, 33% Ohio black voters: Trump, 0% Clinton, 88% Trump is going to have to carry like 100% of the white vote at this rate if he keeps these numbers up. I am bised to the left but is trump capturing any group outside of his base. IF anything i have been reading that he is even losing some of his core.

I'm not sure what carrot/sticks to include so that the police actually do it. Might be hard to get such a law passed of course. But we need better data, and this seems like the most straightforward way to get it.

I would also like anonymous reporting for police officers who have issues like the one in the story above. They should be forced to run to the media and risk termination or other forms of retaliation.

Oo How do you qualify Trump's language, just out of curiosity? After Orlando, Obama was bashed by Republicans for not being divisive enough because it's all about muslims vs non-muslims and they are the enemy. Now he is constantly divisive. Must be tiring to be POTUS.

I don't value posting on LL much at all: i can keep in touch with all the relevant people with skype or discord, and in the low percentile chance Trump does win, I'll need the ban anyways to make plans for dusting off my Canadian citizenship and moving. ban-betting on Hillary vs Trump is a bit of a Pascal's wager imo. If Trump wins then it would take more than 3 months before I wanted to read about anything politics related anyway.

http://uproxx.com/news/philando-castile-gun-permit/ Still no permit, but I assume the police probably have that (if it was in the wallet) as evidence or what-not. Anyway, if this is true it will be very, very bad. I still think Officer Yanez will probably get off (not enough evidence for any conviction at this point), but the lack of a criminal record and the legal gun will cause a lot of reaction. I expect more riots and violence, and probably more targeting of cops, which will in turn lead to increased stress/pressure on cops, which will continue the cycle. The new tactic of shutting down highways is an especially disturbing trend. Emergency services and local economies absolutely depend on functioning highways. For now it seems like they're largely getting away with it, but at a certain point mayors and governors will have to step in or risk losing control. As more and more innocent people are inconvenienced or harmed by BLM marches, you'll start to see counter-movements and protests, and those may devolve into clashes. Especially with election season heating up and Trump/Trumpsters so fired up and everyone already on edge. I'm afraid we might have already reached the event-horizon on this thing. This is extremely troubling for the country and the nature of race relations, but it's just a continuation of trends that have been happening for a long time. From Trump's electoral point of view, this isn't all too unexpected or problematic. It could spell disaster for the country at large though, if this keeps up.

BLM has absolutely no business obstructing highways and major roads. They can go do their protests elsewhere.
