The Huffington Post has hired former Breitbart reporter Michelle Fields, the site announced on Sunday.
Fields will be on the political team covering presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump, an interesting position for Fields considering her history with the campaign.
In March, Fields, who was then working for Breitbart, accused Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski of forcefully grabbing her out of the way after she tried to ask Trump a question during an event in Florida. When the campaign initially denied the event took place and called Fields "delusional", Fields filed a police report which led to battery charges against Lewandowski, though a Florida prosecutor decided in April not to prosecute. Fields, and at least six other staffers, left Breitbart shortly after the incident, saying the website failed to adequately support her at the time.
That has to be the most hilarious hire I've ever seen.
She'll fit right in with the other people there with their heads that far up their own ass.
What is she supposed to do, add credibility to Huffington Post?
I can't wait for a co-worker to spill lukewarm coffee on her and she'll claim she was assaulted with a deadly weapon. Might be the third worst thing to happen to her since the battery and the death of her father. Hope she never bumps into our PM Trudeau, he'd probably kill her. rip snowflake
The Senate is heading for a showdown over women registering for the draft.
Supporters of requiring women to sign up for Selective Service see the upper chamber as their last best hope for getting legislation to President Obama's desk.
They've turned their attention to the Senate after suffering a setback in the House, which last week dropped language requiring women to register from its version of the annual defense bill.
Proponents say women already have the green light to serve in combat roles, hurting the legal argument for excluding them from the draft. But opponents say Congress needs to spend more time studying the politically tricky issue instead of tucking it into a massive “must pass” bill.
The Senate Armed Services Committee has already included a requirement to open the draft to women in its version of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), a move that sparked outrage from conservatives.
The battle will come to a head on the Senate floor, where conservative opponents are expected to make a last stand to remove the provision. If successful they would effectively kill any chance of Congress approving the policy change.
But supporters got an unexpected boost as they fight to keep the language in the bill. Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) said he supports the change, while noting he doesn’t expect the United States to return to the draft.

It's a little more involved than that the Taliban "sucks." But you're right that might doesn't make right, which is why it's not desirable to have fundamentalist warlords controlling territory in Afghanistan and Pakistan.

The old throw away line about general election polls doesn't apply here. There is not another candidate in the last 30 years that could have said a fraction of what Trump said and still be competitive. If Trump can say Hillary is only where she is because she's a woman, otherwise she would have 5%, and still be statistically tied that means Hillary is a terrible candidate not that the left is just waiting to support her. 1. Washington went to Obama 56,16% to Romney's 41,29% in 2012. Hillary will win Washington in the general election. 2. Current polling is pretty much meaningless, considering Sanders is still running a negative campaign, and Obama/Biden/Warren and Sanders himself are not campaigning for her yet. Her favorable rating is going to go up, and she'll defeat Trump handily. 3. Sanders has been left untouched by negative ads at the national level. He would get shredded by GOP propaganda in the general, as I've already argued. His current polling numbers are therefore utterly irrelevant, since they do not reflect the impact that negative ads would have against him.
1. Obama and Romney doesn't change that Hillary won't win Washington, no idea why you're even mentioning it.
2. Yes Hillary always does worse than she starts the polls at.
3. Why are you talking about Sanders national numbers at all?

Is this the new frontier of liberalism? Did we arrive to the point that we should simply hire people with different ethnicity otherwise people call you racist? I thought that as a COMPANY you are more interested in hiring TALENTED people, regardless of their ETHNICITY.
This is almost as stupid as an Italian law that obliged policital parties to have the same number of men and women in any proposed list - which is just saying 'we do not care if you are smart or more talented, we just want a nice appearance of political correctness'. Liberalism started with noble intents - too bad it has become a meme at this point
What is also just as infuriating is a tendency I noticed among people who argue against the idea of using gender or race as a means of credibility rather than merit which is understandable, but then proceed to defend market based healthcare and education on the grounds that nothing deserves to be free without realizing that those who have money will have unfair advantage over someone who has no money due to financial status. In America, people can bitch all they want about the ridiculousness of identity politics, but at least it's an annoying joke that flares up emotions rather than destroying lives. First world problems as always, stay classy.

Because it's a state that has been going for Democrats since 1988, and by sizeable margins in recent elections. I don't doubt for a second that Hillary will carry it.
We could bet on it, if you'd like. Why don't we change our general election bet from a sig bet to a "can't post on TL.net for six months after the election" bet, and make our sig bet about the result of Washington state instead? Six months of the signature you suggested while we're active (that is to say, it can't overlap with the period during which we wouldn't be allowed to post): "I have no idea what I'm talking about, if you want useful information, you should stick to reading _____'s posts."?

Because the discussion is about electability and polling numbers for the general election, and I'm addressing the numbers of the other current Democratic candidate.

No, that's not what it's saying at all. It's saying that there are equally qualified female candidates, but that they're being overlooked because of systemic bias. It's not "we do not care if you are smart or more talented", it's "we do not care if your reflex is to pick male candidates/if you have a sexist bias against female candidates, there are plenty of competent female candidates to choose from and gender stereotypes should not prevent them from being chosen".

I am pretty sure that this is nonsense. As a basic example, take a look in a university physics lecture. You will find that ~80% of the people there are male. If we now assume that males and females are similarly competent at physics, this means that you will have ~4 times as many male physicists as you will have females. Which means that if you are looking for someone with such a degree, you simply can not find as many equally qualified females as you can find males. So if the equally qualified ones are gone, you will need to either take a less qualified female or an equally qualified male.
I have no good idea as to why there are less females studying physics than males. It is not an easy question to answer, and i don't think that someone has an exact answer to this question. What i can say is that it is definitively by choice, at least here in germany. Because if you have abitur, you can study physics, there are always more open spots than people that wish to take them. Which means that for some reason females choose not to study it as often, and society probably has something to do with that. But that is also not relevant for the question in place here.
My main point is that there are situations in which you will find more qualified males than females (and the other way around of course, try finding male elementary school teachers.)
We are talking about candidates to hold political office, not physicists, and there are plenty of equally qualified female candidates to choose from. None of what I said is nonsense. If you truly believe there aren't enough qualified women in Italy to hold the kind of elected positions SoSexy is referring to, I suggest you look into the topic further.
With regards to your points on physicists, the "choice" you refer to is, at the structural level, largely conditioned by cultural factors, in particular gender stereotypes and how they influence what we expect of women and men in society as well as how we educate and bring them up.
"I am pretty sure that this is nonsense. As a basic example, take a look in a university physics lecture. You will find that ~80% of the people there are male. not only that, statistics then also dictate that the best male physicist is better then the best female physicist considering all other things equal, simply because they have a bigger pool to draw from. There are off course exceptions to this but in general the bigger the group is,the better the best of the group is.
If trump was the one to do this then everyone would be upset. Claiming that trump is a dangerous lunatic who risk throwing the world into ww3, but now that Obama does it everything is fine. The media are such hypocrits yet 90% of the people is falling for it.
