Can anyone explain to me why Carson and Kasich are still in the race? They obviously have no chance to get nominated.

I'm 40 minutes into the debate from yesterday and they're pretty irrelevant.

Nope a black man. So probably not a "terrorist" right?

Probably a superpredator.

Kasich is still doing OK in a lot of the upcoming primaries. Carson is there for the attention he gets very occasionally.

Carson is selling books. Kasich is angling for a position in the next administration.

To backtrack to the conversation yesterday about 80s crime rates and the perception that it would devolve into full on urban warfare (Demolition Man, Robocop, Predator II and so forth) I read a fairly interesting article that argued that the lead pollution from leaded petrol gave an entire generation of city dwellers brain damage. The superpredators comment was a reference to a demographic swell of young black men who were predicted to reach their prime criminal years in an unstoppable wave of violence. There was never really a good explanation for why that didn't happen but the article posits that the deciding factor between the previous generation and that generation was the phasing out of leaded petrol.

Nearly a year before Michigan governor Rick Snyder publicly admitted his knowledge of the city of Flint’s lead-contaminated water crisis, advisers in his office had advocated moving Flint back to its prior drinking water source “before this thing gets too far out of control”, newly released emails reveal.

And nearly seven months before Snyder’s announcement in October 2015, his former chief of staff had internally proposed purchasing bottled water for Flint’s residents – even as the governor’s administration publicly rebuffed any characterization that Flint’s water wasn’t safe to drink.

Those are some of the revelations in a batch of 550 emails newly released by Snyder’s office to the Detroit Free Press and the Detroit News, a small slice of 8,000-10,000 emails expected to be released on Friday. Flint’s water became contaminated in April 2014 after the city, run by a governor-appointed emergency manager, switched its drinking water source to a corrosive local river. The city wasn’t required by Michigan’s environmental agency to treat the water with anti-corrosion agents that would have prevented lead from leaching off pipes and flowing into households.

It’s unclear why the governor’s office chose to release only a select number of emails ahead of Friday’s expected release. A message requesting comment was not immediately returned.

Think about how many kids have permanent brain damage now. This is sort of like a mass murder in a way. And clearly they knew it was happening. This is truly bizarre. From where I'm sitting, life in prison for everyone involved seems appropriate. They have completely ruined so many lives. It's so huge its daunting.

So we're living through the prequel to Robocop right?

If you watch the video for the Altus Robot from Boston dynamics and the rise of VR, yes. One of Trumps staff wore a necklace made of bullets. We are almost at peak robo-cop.

Not really. As terrible as Flint is it's nothing compared to leaded petrol. If we accept the link between lead poisoning, brain damage and criminality though then the inevitable conclusion is that the EPA have done more to fight crime and lift people out of poverty than decades of tough on crime policies and law enforcement could have dreamed. It also leads to an uncomfortable question of assigning guilt if Flint children become violent offenders. I have no desire to excuse violent criminals but on the other hand if it had happened to me I'd certainly want it noted that a contributing factor was that time I was poisoned by the city as a child.

Christie and Trump seem made for each other. I hope they are happy together. Congratz! lol.

Fat man that hates recess endorses billionaire that created a fake college.

Christie just doesn't want to be sent to the wall after Trump is elected.
