Debating whether we should be emailing sponsors is sort of moot at this point. You're right - it's dumb (and I say this as someone who really thinks we should have no tolerance for this stuff). But it's going to happen. In society at large, anyone who sponsors someone who spouts racial slurs constantly gets angry email. The only way to avoid this is to keep the community so small and marginal as to have a whole different social norm than the rest of society, and I don't think any of us want that. So sponsors will get emailed. Knowing this, we should be talking about as a community not how to make sure that racial slurs don't lead to sponsor emails, but how to stop the racial slurs. And really, it's sort of stupid to say "give Quantic a chance to respond". With Orb, it was at least conceivable that EG didn't know about the fact that he still said stuff like this. Destiny is famous for it. Quantic knows perfectly well he says this stuff, and they've known it for months. It's not like this should take them by surprise or they had no chance to act first.

It's the most reasonable response to this situation. yes Quantic knew that Destiny was an opinionated and sometimes controversial player but they also knew he was an intelligent human being who could be reasoned with. Just because Destiny has said some fringe shit in the past doesn't mean he should be untouchable by a team or that once a team does grab him you (the community) now have a free license to act as drastic as you like because WELL DESTINY IS PRONE TO DO STUFF. I am arguing for people to go through proper channels and protect that which we love.
Get really tired when people assume "you are hurting esports" isn't a real possibility. A lot of you are either very young or incredibly under educated on esports to think we are untouchable. Entire fucking communities have died. Leagues have collapsed and sponsors have walked away never to come back. This shit does happen. Why flirt with it?

dear incontrol, i can understand your point, because you're a person who has to directly deal with everything our mails to razer achieve. but i can't understand how you expect us to wait weeks for quantic gaming to respond in this short-lived times. if they were known for taking a stand against unaccepable behaviour i could've waited for a response, but they already gave a subliminal statement when they signed a person like destiny. "he is well known for his behaviour on stream, this is not new, we don't care as long as people don't care loud enough" neither did i ever read a statement from one of the other players on quantic that they are not ok with destiny's behaviour. so the team and any player can be accountable for the outcome of this shitstorm. supporting evil behaviour by not acting against it or just being silent is just as bad as the behaviour itself. the good thing about messaging razor directly is that they are sponsoring so many teams. they are in a position to enforce professional behaviour from many more players than a single pro-team could ever do. if my email to razer is playing a tiny part in forcing teams to have higher recruitment standards or leads to a moral code for razer sponsored teams i can be proud. and frankly if we as a community don't take a firm stand against any haters of gays/women/ethnic groups we don't deserve to have sponsored teams.
You're sending a message to Razor, a message which says that the SC2 community is unstable, immature, and that investing much time or money is a poor return on their investment.
That injures the community as a whole; I mean, you can be fine with that, but don't pretend it's something other than what it is.

In a business world, you dont just leave out the first obvious instance, which means the player's team. I mean, how RUDE is it, to email Sponsors, when the team's management has NO CHANCE to act according to the whole case?
Do you guys realize how dumb it is, to email sponsors who dont have direct influence on the players which is also not their job. It is the team's job and I believe every sponsored eSports team has an interest in knowing such stuff and an interest in taking actions if needed?

EG was blindsided by a Reddit thread about orb that blew up in a matter of days and the community did them a terrible disservice by going to the sponsors without allowing them time to handle the situation properly.
Quantic knows exactly how Destiny behaves, the language he uses and how he conducts himself publicly. None of the information about Destiny's behaviour presented in this thread is new to them. It's obvious that they fully accept the risk of doing business with Destiny and support his behaviour because it brings them viewers.
In spite of what InControl says, going to the sponsors in this case is not irrational. Quantic has made their choice, and many people in this thread (myself not included in them) would like to make the sponsors aware of that choice.

The fact that the (TL) community sort of 'accepts' the fact that Destiny is popular because of BM, regardless of what form it is, as 'normal', is surprising. I've had my share of warnings and temp bans for voicing ugly opinions, but to me they're still my opinions and I don't always have to be polite and eloquent if I want my point made, regardless of how people take it. I don't really care if he talks smack or not, everyone does it to a certain degree.
As for the racism thing, the first page is really the shocker. But some people have it right - had it been "nigger", I doubt the whole 'oh, it's Destiny being Destiny' thing would fly. I've watched him on SOTG, MLG interviews, and various other media outside his stream, and he's polite - as it should be. Just because it's your stream, especially the fact that it's featured on Team Liquid, doesn't mean you can throw words like "gook" around. But shit, that's just one opinion in a sea of opinions. On the topic of racism, and again this is my opinion: Asians just don't give a shit. Not all, but most really couldn't care less. They don't have a Jesse Jackson, an NCAAP, or Black Panthers. They don't have a BET. There's no MLK day, no PR day parade. It's as if racism against Asian-Americans (and Asians in general) just isn't a big deal.
