this has more to do with the japanese government rather than the people. And i am not ignorant i am aware of what the japanese did to the chinese and other asian peoples throughout history (i am not aware of every specific incident, but more as a whole) Its still no reason to hate the young japanese people, just hate their government =)

so if the japanese government of 50 years after WWII would admit that their government back in the day made a couple of big mistakes and were acting kinda nasty, although we all know they have nothing to do with that, seeing everyone who did somethign wrong back then is already dead, all is forgiven?
besides, thats still no reason to be a racist is it? t_t

i just read the first post and the last one. Interesting how the subject can change

Yeah, the main problem is that chinese/koreans are kinda taught to hate Japanese people in general, (educational system, parents, grandparents, etc.) without getting to the root of the problem. I personally don't have anything aganist Japanese people, but it really annoys me when people call chinese/korean people racist without fully understanding the situation.

this is a pretty well educated forum, and there have been plenty of threads regarding the problems between Japan and Korea/China. i guarantee you there are very few people who are clueless about why the Chinese and Koreans harbor deep feelings of hate towards the Japanese.
everything in your post has been stated. everyone knows this, its in the fricken news. the Japanese Prime Minister just visited the Yasukuni Shrine last week, and it was reported on all the major news outlets.
however, YOU are the ignorant one if you can't separate the actions of a government and of political leaders fifty years ago with the actions of a single person today.
i'm chinese (born on the mainland), a huge supporter of revisionist history, and i studied a great deal about the racial implications of the War in the Pacific. i hate what the japanese did to my grandparents too, but to let that blind you into justifying racism on a single half-japanese boyfriend is just stupid.
edit: i just read your post, and "understanding" the situation (which most of the people posting do understand) doesn't justify the guy's racism even one bit.

Chinese and Koreans ARE racist towards the Japanese. what you're saying is that it's justified because of what the Japanese did. judging by what happened, it's understandable, but they're still racist.

I was trying to make a point that a lot of flak towards Japanese people has nothing to do with their race, it's more about bitterness over unresolved issues from previous conflicts. Obviously nothing justifies racism, but I don't think anyone here is seriously racist.
I fully understand that many people here are exceedingly aware of current east asian relations, but judging from some of the posts made, it is clearly not everyone.

Once again, I am not speaking on my behalf, but from a more hoi polloi point of view. In general, people tend to treat the actions of a government as the representive will of the people of a nation. This doesn't include everyone obviously, but I have met a fair share of people who depise Americans despite the fact the general public has little to do with how their government is acting.
|
To reiterate, I am obviously not supporting racism in any form, or trying to justify racism. I merely think 'racist' is an incorrect label to pin upon the originator of this topic without fully understanding his social background, the state of mind of numerous chinese and korean people, and implications of the term.

my favourite actress is kristin kreuk, my favourite hockey player is paul kariya and hes half jap and white too so i dont think thats a big issue but i use it against him anyways
and my sister told me that he wanted to get to know her first and take it slow, 2 days later i find out they kissed, wtf their so lucky their in vancouver, or else i'd go and fucking kick his ass

The Japanese supreme court rules the shrine visits unconstitutional and a breach of secularism (an argument which seems BS to me), but the PM visited the shrine in his capacity as a private citizen, which he should have every right to.

he has every right to but he is a representative of the japanese government and the shrine represents a political statement. it's like gw or dick chaney going to a kkk meeting. are people from other countries going to think oh gee, they are private citizens it doesn't represent the US government's views?
