Hey there TL!

I haven't been active posting on this website as of yet, but I surely read almost everything that I can get my hands on.

anyway.

I've been looking to get some motivation to really start diving into starcraft a lot more lately.
I work 9 hour days (office job) but its just the sleeping that seems to kill me.

I feel like i need to be refreshed and very alert to play. But that will change with time.

I will get home from work, Sit down and eat/watch some tv. and i find myself watching stream after stream (thank god there is endless content :D ), Reading up on different playstyles and everything.

but i never seem to end up queing for that match that i have open.

I suppose im used to having friends on skype and such while i play. I guess it would help if the group i played with now , played sc2. (im playing high tier dota 2 at the moment , how i've missed this game)

anyway.
What gets you the motivation to play!?

Just play. Sounds plain and simple but thats all you need to do. I'm having hard time motivating myself to play now that I dislike ladder and customs you don't get too many masters to improve your skill. There is no "motivation." It's all hoax. If you want to play just play.

What motivates me are the lonely Friday nights where, instead of socializing with the youth of the upside part of this great lit city, warmed with greetings, cheer and love, I roll out of bed, sleep schedule totally out of whack, take a hard swig of whatever hard liquor I can manage to scavenge for and click play match.

The screen illuminates my face, removing whatever natural pigmentation I had as a once athletic mediterrean kid and warm my hands up with some jittering of my mouse and mousepad.

The left, countless boxes of Pizza Bagels, I pretend it's me testing each box to see when it'll actually taste like pizza, but in reality I just enjoy visiting the embodiment of my college years: the microwave.

Match found. Time to play.

Before starting your initial match, close your internet browser and other programs, then force yourself to play 5 games in a row without alt-tabbing between games.

Just play some custom 1v1s or team games. Might help you get your feet wet

Starcraft 2 is a game, you have 0 liability to play it if you don't want to. If you don't want to, DON'T, if you want to play, PLAY. This "motivation" shit is just dumb. It's as simple as that.

Why do you need a motivation to play a game that's supposed to be fun. I thought that was the whole point of gaming, an escape to make you feel better and relax. If you don't enjoy it...then I think you should find another game that you do enjoy.

On the other hand...if you want to conquer your "ladder anxiety", then welcome to the club . As others have said just play tons of games and you'll get over it...and then hopefully you'll actually enjoy playing the game at the end of it. It just seems strange that you have to work this hard to enjoy a game (or maybe not so much the game as the thrill of winning, not sure). I figure the people who should be playing would be those who naturally find it entertaining.

Dont get me wrong i do enjoy the game

I just Prefer being on skype and such while i play.
i feel kind of excluded while i sit at my desk.. not really sure how to explain it.

but as i said before my team for dota are all europeans ( im in canada)
so now with working, theres only a short window for us to practice, and then when we are done, ill get off and go watch some tv show or something.

also there is definitly a bit of anxiety.
but there really shouldnt be

i used to play in playhem dailes and stuff almost every day(when they were first starting up as a website)
so im sitting in low masters right now
probably will lose it if i dont start playing again

Then don't play the game and don't create the thread if you already answered yourself a question you are asking us. If you prefer skype over sc2 then it's clear that all you gotta do is say to yourself you rather play sc2 than skype.

Dude, that song is fucking awesome and upbeat.

If you want to play, you need to set goals for yourself and stick by them. Hide the interet, hide everything besides SCII. You are subconcsiously using that as an excuse not to play (at least your brain is. It does things like that.).

Do it! Close streams, start SCII and click find match. Whether you win or lose, when you get out of that game click the multiplayer tab and then spam that find match button again. You can do this!

What do you expect, some magic formula to appear ? Look at the high masters/ gm / pros and why they play. They are genuinely interested in game and becoming better at it (don't say money because when they were at your level they couldn't be sure that they will become so good to live off the game).

If you can't convince yourself to play the game then there is no point in playing sc2. This game is highly individual and requires your own commitment and desire to improve and learn from your mistakes. Stop bashing people for "trolling" you if you can't motivate yourself to play a game. TL community especially in strategy section can help you to become better and offers plenty of resources for you to improve. But the first step has to be taken from your own initiative and actually start playing. If you want us to "force" you to play then I guarantee you, you will stop playing within weeks and whole scenario will repeat. I play this game constantly for over a year whether 1v1 2v2 3v3s. And the reason I do is because I was able to motivate myself, not have forum motivate me to play a game I paid for.

I think I am missing something here? Isnt this a game? Why would you need motivation to play a game? I have lots of friends who liked sc2 but are not a 1v1 competative kind of person. They play other games now, but they still enjoy to watch sc2 tournaments and streams and stuff.

I mean, if you need to ask for motivation to play a videogame then I dont think its the right game for you.. Its supposed to be a hobby right, something you enjoy doing on your sparetime. Isnt it? :-o

What the fuck are you talking about. You are the one with the earth shattering problem of not being able to click "play game". Here is a shocking revelation for you... find something else to do that doesn't require you to make a thread to get motivated to do it.
