pointy toe boots look odd @_@. too formal for the workwear style of most boots. unless its a chelsea i suppose.

ive seen 1ks do ok but regardless of the boot you get, in the snow you'll either have to waterproof/snowseal (partially for the wetness, partially bc they salt roads and salt on leather is blah). and in a blizzard id rather have duck boots than anything else.

dunno about 1/2 soles but any type of resoling will usually have to be at a shoe repair store (what are these called again..cobblers?)

Ive heard good things about OSB and 1k. dunno about allen edmonds boots

check for return policies online. alternatively, check stockists around you to fit it before buying. i really dislike buying stuff online if its expensive unless i've fit it before :[. glhf

for the red pants wear stuff that'll help tone it down. that red is really bright and it'll draw a lot of attention. you wanna balance that out (either via complimentary colors, or darker neutrals to offset. )

also i caved and kopped RRL denim :[. guess i wont be getting CPs till the spring (not that ill get much of a chance to wear them in the winter). On the plus side i wont hunt PJB/momos anymore and i've "saved" myself like $60-80.

go with 42

because pointy boots are mildly hard to pull off, and that guide is for mfa whose userbase is composed primarily of novices. That's why most of the boots they do recommend are extremely versatile.

recent season slp fits have slim pointy boots if you're looking for a way to wear them.

after December I'll do a recent cops post (past 3 months really)

Looking for a casual jacket/blazer/knitwear around $100 cap. Was thinking it should be gray, but it could be any other versatile color to wear mostly with jeans + t shirt or the occasional pair of chinos. I'm 5'9" 160 lbs athletic build, don't need anything too warm since I'm in Florida.

Suggestions of pieces or good websites/stores appreciated!

i recently received a nice 3-piece suit (by my standards, at least) i really like from my grandpa but it needs some tailoring. to my untrained eyes the pants are the most obviously in need of some fitting, but should i just take the whole thing in and have them look at it? i don't know a thing about how a suit is supposed to properly fit - is it a simple thing that tailoring places can just figure out? does it matter where i go?

Read those two. I'd suggest you find a reputable tailor in your area (usually that means NOT the lady at the dry cleaners, though sometimes she's good). If they say they can have the job done in a week...probably walk away.

Quick run down:
1. sleeves should show some cuff
2. Depending on your build and style you may want to have it taken in at the waist a tiny bit
3. Pants - length - if you're short ask for 'little to no break' if you're taller ask for 'a little bit of break.'
4. If the pant legs are loose at the thighs it's possible to bring them in a bit.
5. You can also take the waist of the pants in or out.

Yay got a waistcoat for cheap. Now, I think I can pull off a waistcoat without a tie kinda look. Hell maybe even with jeans? Where do you guys draw the line at too much mixing of casual and smart?

I don't know much about denim but these seem like a good deal when available for purchase, is it worth getting onboard?

Only if you actually need the custom sizing imo. i mean sure the price is great but there's other denim at that price point.

if nothing else fits you then i guess but that's part of why some denim is more expensive

Looking for a decent (but cheap) suit-- yeah, I know those are hard to find. 21 years old, looking for internships and need something navy blue/ grey that I can wear to interviews and other business things. I know there's a couple good websites out there with offerings, anyone help out and shoot a link my way?

Also need a suggestion for a flexible moderately-dressy pair of shoes-- I need more stuff that could be construed as "business casual". I'm thinking a nice dark suede-type pair that pair with khakis.

Think like college student level-- about $200 max for the suit

im trying to think if there's anything between the "cheaper" (sub $150) and not so bad/pretty good (~$500) range that's worth shooting for but I can't really think of anything.

One option is Uniqlo - the blazer + pants are sold separately and run at around ~$150. Including tailoring costs (you want to tailor it!) you'll probably get to almost $200.

I'm actually thinking about doing that (although I'm pretty happy with the suit I have right now so I probably won't).

Alternatively, do what I did and to places with discounted "designer" stuff (loehmanns, nordstrom rack, sak's off 5th) and grab something that fits ok and have it tailored. It'll probably cost the same, but you might find something of better quality than uniqlo.

Sak's has a line made by Zegna specifically for saks thats.... maybe $300? I think it was half canvassed and would be better quality than the other options.

I got a pair of Unbranded 201s and 301s with $50 off both from urban outfitters. I'm a little scared of the sizing but luckily they allow online orders to be returned in store, hopefully they stretch out a bit. Unbranded website says 301s are actually one size down from 201s. They will be my first pairs of raw denim.

if you button them up and they are snug (tight, but not super tight) then you will be fine as raws pretty much always stretch out after 10-20ish wears. if you can't button up the top button then move up a size.

Depends on the brand. Some pairs you actually want to be difficult as hell to button at first because they will stretch quite a bit. Waist is usually the most forgiving measurement imo, the top block of the thighs is a lot harder to get right usually.

Looking around for a nice casual blazer, I did a search on Ebay and got a ton of results of the sort of style I was looking for but most of the products here are $20 blazers made in China. (See here) Will the quality any good? Maybe just something to wear for a single season? Obviously I don't expect it to last a couple years.

Quality will be terrible and it will most likely look nothing like it does on the pictures in terms of fabric and fit.
You can always get it and see for yourself since its so cheap, but unless you have basically zero expectation you will most likely be disappointed. You're buying a blazer for basically the cost of a cheap t-shirt, so that should be a good indication of the level of quality you can expect.

buying unknown-branded trendy clothing made in china off ebay for cheap is most likely a bad idea.
