Now to explain the thought process behind what most people refer to as "gothic" fashion.

People aren't born that way of course. They make themselves that way. This course of action stems from their (perhaps latent) belief that they are unable to attract positive attention from who they view as their superiors, and so, in much the same way a child might lash out and misbehave, they dress themselves up and fashion themselves in such a way that they expect will attract a lot of negative attention.

In doing so, they not only satisfy their primary need, which is to have a lot of eyes on them, but also automatically gain acceptance into various subcultures simply because of the color of their hair or the width of their piercing.

It can vary from subject to subject, but this is the basic outline that I would say applies to atleast 85% of all "goths."

Typed above is a logical and educated analysis of a somewhat controversial subject, so based on the past, a big "fuck Chris307" fest is about to ensue.

Chris307, You're absolutely wrong. In fact, you went along the same generic lines that every mindless drone that walks this earth goes. "They are different, so they're doing it for attention".

You clearly know almost nothing on the subject seeing as the gothic subculture is known for its rather arrogant mindset. Alot of goths have a superiority complex stemming from the fact that they think they are 'special' or 'unique'. Trying to get attention from your "superiors" when you're the greatest one of all doesn't even make sense. Most goths see themselves as superior, so your entire analysis goes right out the window there.

Most goths don't actively participate in the gothic subculture. As I have said numerous times on this forum, I have 1 goth friend, she has 1 goth friend(me). Most goths I know only have a a couple, if any, goth friends. Most of their friends fall under the "normal" category of which you seem to think we are incapable of associating with.

Fact is these people are different. For whatever reason they enjoy a darker appearance, the darker sides of art, the darker poetry, the darker music. It has to do with the person, not some inherent need for attention. You can try and break it down into some sort of psychological mumbo jumbo but all it comes down to is preferences. Just like you like a certain type of food, clothing or music, these people do as well.

Why is this so hard for you to accept? Why must you belittle people who you view as "not normal" and try to justify it by accusing them of being attention whores? You even refer to their behavior as that of a child. Don't think you are so much better than these people. You are not. Judging from your behavior on this forum, you are far worse than most of them.

Get your foot out of your mouth and actually get to know some of these people before mindlessly judging them. You know nothing about them. Perhaps you should go learn something before opening your mouth on the subject.
