You do realize that according to the article the wife was also in on it and helped the friends dig the hole, and later that night proceeded to lead herself and her husband into the hole to "surprise" him. Doesn't make much sense, and admittedly I have no idea what they were trying to accomplish, but the wife is every bit as responsible for her own and her husband's death as the friends if not even more so. All of this is assuming the media has all their facts straight, which they possibly do not.

Your not really supposed to help people who have fallen and could have neck injuries, but I think when your friends are head first buried in sand, thats an exception. If I was one of them though, and saw my friends in the hole like that, you can sure as hell bet that I would be digging them out with my bare hands if I had to. Just a really confusing and sad story, we really need more information to make judgments.
If someone had actually watched them fall in, they probably would be alive.

Though I also feel sorry for the friends that didn't know what they were doing, and this is a rather innocent thing going horribly wrong, I've never been ok with practical jokes. I'm not saying this is why (people obviously don't die all the time from them) but people do get hurt.

I don't see why the prank was that stupid It seems like a good idea to me. Have a couple fall into a 8 foot hole which causes a short period of fear. They look around and see a ladder, know their friends did it, laugh about it, and then it turns into a romantic moment. It's too bad that it ended so badly I'm sure the friends will feel horrible for the rest of their lives.
I'm not sure why people are acting like an 8 foot hole is that massive... also it was 8 foot square... seriously I don't even fucking understand how they died, it seems the friends were careful about it. Also people are acting ridiculous saying this shit is ridiculous, I find most of these posts hypocritical saying how ridiculous / retarded the prank was. Since it really isn't.

The issue comes when you can't predict how the victims will fall in the whole. In theory, it is okay because they land feet first and freak out. In practice, the fall is long enough so that when they only step in with one foot, they rotate around and land head first. Idiots.

How is the fact that they both died insufficient evidence for you that it was an extremely dangerous prank? Are you really this stupid or just trolling hard? You also don't seem to understand the definition of "hypocritical".
