FXOpen e-Sports is excited to announce our first major offline event in the $20,000 FXOpen King of the Hill to be hosted in our team house in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This event is significant for several reasons, for one it will be the largest FXO tournament hosted to date in terms of prizepool. It will also be the first time the Malaysian FXO team house is used, and the first time FXO will broadcast an event from our studio infrastructure in Malaysia.

While many of the details are yet to be confirmed, we still have a lot of exciting information on the format and setup for the event approved. The first thing that I think commands your attention is the prizepool. At $20,000 it's FXOpen's biggest event to date and is a huge amount of money for an event of this format.
  • $20,000 cash prizepool.
  • KOTH format - winner plays on, order shuffled for each day.
  • Date TBA in 2011.
  • Five day event.
  • At least 9 x Bo3 matches each day.
  • Players stay in the FXO team house.
  • $500 towards flight costs.
  • $100 earned per victory on days 1-4.
  • Bonus prizemoney available on day 5.
Second most of interest I think is the infrastructure being set up in Kuala Lumpur for this and future events. All players will be subsidised $500 travel expenses and stay in our Pro House for the duration of the five day event. While staying in the house all food will be supplied and the matches will take place in the FXO studio also in Malaysia.

While the schedule is yet to be announced for 2011 with everyone being kept busy on GSTL duty the format is mostly ironed out. Over the 5 days we will see the players play in Bo3 KOTH format in which the winner plays the next opponent in a pre-set order. This order will reverse or shuffle day to day so there is a fair distribution of games among the players.

Each player defeated will earn the players $100 until the final day where the remaining money will be used up by increasing the amount of cash won per victory. The format is by no means set in stone and may be subject to change if we come across any improvements in the mean time!

Live coverage of the event will be provided from our studio in Kuala Lumpur by hosts FXOWolf of GSL casting fame and also FXOUnstable who will be living in Malaysia! The event will also feature at least one special guest caster. What you can look forward to in the coverage:
  • Live coverage from a studio.
  • Multiple streams and languages.
  • Guest casters.
  • Giveaways, player interviews and other fun events.

The participants for this King of the Hill event will be primarily based on results from the (Wiki)FXOpen KOTH weekly online events. The top three performers for each applicable region are outlined below for a preview of players pushing to claim one of the invite spots.

Full rankings

As mentioned, the players will be selected based on their performance in our weekly online $300 FXO KOTH events. Both total wins and ladder points may be used to determine who the three invites per region will be. One special invite to bring the total to 10 players will also be attending but will be announced later. There will be at least 10 more KOTHs per region, so if you are a top player from any of these regions and think you deserve a shot at one of the upcoming KOTH events please PM me or post in this thread and present your case!

Upcoming events

FXO KOTH Europe #2 - Saturday, Jun 11 10:00am GMT (GMT+00:00)
FXO KOTH Americas #3 - Sunday, Jun 26 5:00pm GMT (GMT+00:00)
FXO KOTH Europe #3 - Sunday, Jul 03 1:00pm GMT (GMT+00:00)
FXO KOTH Korea #3 - Sunday, Jul 03 8:00am GMT (GMT+00:00)

Please note that FXOpen e-Sports staff reserve the right to alter the selection criteria as required and that no one is guaranteed based solely on a good online KOTH result.

Interesting format choice for a tournament with a $20,000 prize pool.

Very interested to see how this turns out.

Hmm not a bad concept with the $100 a match win thing but don't know if I like the fact that a $20k prize pool tournament is being done in this format. I'd much rather see a single elimination knock out style tournament as it adds more drama.

But still, can't say it's a bad thing.

We plan to have regular elimination tournaments in the future but they will be bigger than this. This event was just in response to the popularity and good feedback from viewers about the online KOTH events and to tide everyone over while we wait to set up for a larger elimination tournament!

awesome

i think its good for the players also because at the end of the tournament, there will be a lot of happy people. I imagine the prize money will be distributed quite well unless some monster goes undefeate for 2 days or so.

best of luck and hope as many as possible attends =)

it kinda sux that ur awarding pts for previous koth wins before you announced this event, had you announced ur offline finals prior to the koth's the competition lvl would have been much higher, as it is some of the players might be undeserving of their spot

There are still a lot of events to go and it's not like the lineup has been terrible. The offline event was mentioned personally to the players invited but as there was no thread (as some details had not been finalised) I think a lot of people sort of ignored it

There is going to be at least 10 more KOTH events per region before this event.

Everyone has their chance.

I'm so exited that Perfect got invited! Does this mean team VT has to pay for the flight over? It sucks because I don't think that they have the cash to splash. God I hope that I'm wrong, lol.

Noone has been invited yet. The players listed are just the players that have performed well so far in our KOTH events. We'll be running a lot more in the coming months.

Those rankings are current points, we will be running over 10 more Region KOTH's before the final live event, so we will need to continue to do well to get invited to the LAN itself

Yes! I hope Maka is there. Good luck hosting the tournament!

Edit: Ahh, so I went back and read the second page... so apparently $20,000 with players flying in from around the world is small in comparison for what is to come........

There may be a small live audience allowed if there's a lot of interest - I imagine letting X people in in groups during the day to get autographs and meet some of the players or watch a game or two could be doable. Or even have people come in for just the one play day and let others in the next day so it's not too crowded n_n I am sure something could be figured out.

@fxo I hope you guys do schedule this awesome tourny right bcos there are still MLG's Dreamhack and Assembly also the NASL LAN Finals are all this summer. Would hate to see it being scheduled on a date where players that can join have to choose between 2 tournaments

Thanks for the concern, but its unlikely we will be scheduling this in conflict with anything.

This looks great, finally using that kick-ass house :-)

I'm a bit worried about the fairness of KOTH with the shuffling and all, esp. given the size of that prize-pool, but I'm sure it'll be a great event to watch.

Looking forward to see who the guest casters will be =)

If you bothered to read the post you would have seen there are no players invited yet, and the invites are based off of our weekly KOTH results.

There WAS NO information about how many more events there would be, it's why TT1 commented in the first place.

Time to start paying more attention to FXO's weekly KOTHs, then.
Neat concept, a nonstandard tournament format here and there is cool.

Oh my gosh! Finally something awesome happening in Malaysia! I've read the other thread about the team house and am absolutely stoked. Especially since it seems near my residential area!

I'd definitely be there to watch this live! FXO fighting!

This looks pretty great, and it's a great move for FXO. The big KotH will bring in hella viewers obviously but this'll definitely increase interest for the smaller 'qualifier' KotH's. I'm quite stoked.

Sounds like a great event and a good idea to reveal your team house. It's great how FXO makes things happen Only thing that bothers my a little is that there will be only 10 players in total, it will exclude a lot of fan favourites and might make the event a little bit montone.

Prize pool isnt big enough for more, it has to be justifiable for everyone. Also I cannot house more than 10 or 11 in the team house... My butler will go mad.

He was going to participate in the last NA koth, before he was asked to commentate the EG MCS and that was before this was announced. So, I imagine he'll participate in them... playing in that setting for this kind of cash would be hard not to be interested in.

20k divided among 10 invites is 2k each on average. that is a very very good deal for the invitees.

I think the prize pool would be sufficiant for more players, but i understand the tendencies of butlers to kill the landlord is something that shouldnt be underestimated

btw how is it korea?

We will be running at least 10 more KOTHs per region, so there will be far less chance that people are equal on points in a few months time.

Hopefully having a prize pool this big will draw all of those players to Malaysia. Might be better to have this event later in 2011 or sometime during a gap in big events.

Please note that FXOpen e-Sports staff reserve the right to alter the selection criteria as required and that no one is guaranteed based solely on a good online KOTH result.

:D

But other than that, sounds awesome. Bit worried about the format but we'll see how it turns out!

There may be a case where someone is higher on the ladder but who can't afford or doesn't have a team to support a trip to Malaysia even with the $500 towards it. Also the ladder points system is quite new and there may be unanticipated flaws in it There is a long way to go before the event so it's best to warn players that the final format for the event may be tweaked between now and then n_n

Well the only chance for some players with big teams but no chance on success to get there and keep going with hyping themselves up and showing zero reslults. Should be really just picked buy activity and results in fxopen´s. but it would not be a big surprise if in backround some money flow is going on and teams are buying themselves spots.

Well, Kuala Lumpur is a highly industrialized city and is one of the centers of Asian economy so I don't think internet will be much of a concern.

Best of luck with this, my only concern is that if this is broadcasted from Malaysia, it'll probably won't be in a good time for viewers of the american continent :S
