(Wiki)FXOpen KOTH

This thread is dedicated to FXOpen's King of the Hill series of events. Top players from one of the three major SC2 regions are pitted against their peers for a cash prize and the chance to be invited to a $20,000 Live KOTH event hosted in Kuala Lumpur.

This thread will contain not only up-to-date results and links to VODs but you can keep track of which players are in the lead to be invited to the huge live KOTH. The ladder points earned by performing well in the KOTH series count towards the ladder rank in the tables below, which will be used when selecting the 9 invites.

+ Show Spoiler [Frequently Asked Questions] +

How are the participants chosen for the online KOTH events?
Participants are approached personally or through their team management as direct invites to the event - there are no qualifiers. Players featured consitute the top talent of that region as proven in previous tournament results or by recommendation from other players or notable community figures. The player pool is injected with fresh faces where possible and may include less well known players as a chance for them to prove themselves, though there is usually only one or two of these players per event.

Which server are these events held on?
The KOTHs are held on one of two servers at this point: EU (International) or KR (Korea). This is to ensure the highest quality of games for that region and maximise participation. It also defines the playerpools that invites will be drawn from for the final event.

How long does the KOTH Series "season" go for?
There will be at least 10 KOTHs per region at a rate of 4-5 per month across both regions.

How frequent are the KOTH events?
One International and one Korean event will occur each weekend, pending other events and player/caster availability.

Don't players who play in more KOTHs get an advantage?
Yes, which is why at the moment it is restricted to 5 appearances until other players can catch up.

How are the participants chosen for the $20,000 offline KOTH event?
The players will be selected based on their performance in our weekly online $300 FXO KOTH events. Both total wins and ladder points may be used to determine who the four invites per region will be. One special invite to bring the total to 10 players will also be attending but will be announced later.

Why choose this strange format as your primary event?
This KOTH format allows for a large range of high level games from top players in each region. The event goes a comfortable ~4 hours and minimises downtime, caster and player fatigue, and problems such as no-shows or late players are easily dealt with. On top of all these benefits it does not compromise the spectacle of the event - because it runs so smoothly it is easy to provide live coverage rather than pre-recorded or casts from replays. Based on positive feedback this format is here to stay and any apparent unfairness with the prize distribution or order will be reduced as more and more KOTHs are run.

Will this exact same format be used for the $20,000 offline KOTH?
No, as specified in the relevant thread the offline KOTH will go for a scheduled 5 days and prizemoney will be awarded on a per-win basis and not on win streak or last-man-standing. It will also be Bo3 with the player orders shuffled each day.

In the offline KOTH thread it mentions that ladder standings may not be final. What kind of circumstances would rule a previously qualified player out of this event?
There are several reasons a player may not be able to make the event outside of a clash with another tournament. While $500 will go towards travel and flight costs, and accommodation/food will be provided, some players may not have the support to make the trip to Kuala Lumpur and would be replaced. FXOpen eSports also places a lot of importance on respect and any disrespect shown towards the staff or players during one of the tournaments will be dealt with very seriously. Similarly, these events benefit FXO as spectacles that fans want to tune in to and players comprimising this aspect in either the online or offline tournaments, such as by repeatedly failing to show up on time or behave appropriately may find their chances of competing at the larger events seriously affected.

Where can I learn more about the KOTH events?
The best two sources are wikipedia, (Wiki)FXOpen KOTH and the thread about the Offline $20k KOTH.

How do I tune in to watch the events?
All of the FXO KOTHs will be featured on TeamLiquid's own calendar, and threads detailing the lineup and broadcast times for each individual competition will appear in the teamliquid.net SC2 Tournament forum. Using the thread you can find out the time of the broadcast, and using both the thread and TL's calendar you can find links to all streams. Usually the event will be the main feature of FXOpen's Justin.TV Channel.
