Both sides would be in a worse position than right now. Heck, if S. Korea blitzed North, we'd win and vis versa. Think about it this way. (pretend you are the north in this analogy). You have 1,000,000 cows/bulls for cattle. The Southern guy has 6,000,000. Although you have more, his cows/bulls are way stronger and healthier. So... using logic, it's complete idiocy to attack. Any war on the Korean peninsula is suicide for both nations. Ok, now really getting to the point. The reason S. Korea doesn't want the USA (Bush) to get into this thing is because they are provoking N. Korea. It's making N. Korea more aggressive than they would be if Bush didn't do anything. About the US troops in Korea, they could help, but S. Korea will hold it's own vs N. Korea without a doubt. Although I'm not saying they should pull out, I'm just trying to say to the fools who won't listen: stop being stupid, the US troops in S. Korea aren't the ultimate protection and that is not the reason N. Korea is not attacking the South. The real reason for not attacking is that they have no way to win with reasonable losses. But if they do attack, I'd welcome any help. A blitz attack of any kind without real reasons for war is total bs.
thank u for takin the time to answer that for me

Bush on north korea: We must invade iraq.

North Korean is a credible threat. They are not as far behind as the world likes to make them out to be. They are a society geared towards war, the 'liberation' of South Korea. There is only two options for a North Korean soldier or citizen, victory or death.

You must have a big shovel to dig so deep into the archives of the forum.

North Korea would rape the shit out of the south -_-;;; North korean don't have anything to lose....SOuth korea?-_-;;they are forced in the military and will be forced to fight-_-;;Not a good incentive to die..eh? DO you remember when North Korean special forces infiltrated in the south and somehow they were chased into the mountains...south korean soldiers were scared,afraid...it was like..what..5 vs whole army?-_- All my friends are in the military right now in Korea, some finishing this september ...and they don't want the US to get out of the country....guess why?
And all the koreans in this forum..I don't know how old are you but forget about this North Korea is not a threat...we are still in a fucking war...

The entire Korea situation is a nice symetrical war. Overall I think SK have the edge due to the fact that the NK army probably wouldn't be able to do shit against SK armor/aircraft divisions. On the other hand it would still be really, really ugly. I really don't know the layout of the bases in SK but I'm assuming that a good portion of them are out of range from the NK artillery and far enough away to be completly evaced if there's a push. I seriously doubt that the DMZ would hold though, it's just much things coming over in to short a time. Key to figting these kinds of battles are to get the blitz to slow down because ones it slows down it can be stopped and once it's stopped your proper fucked. Also to consider is how many conscripts the NK can kill with artillery shelling before they can link up with the main army. I doubt it would break the moral though, because shelling of civlians have allways had the opposite effect. Still, just as most people point out it would probably be an even more pointless war than the first one, with lots of people dieng on both sides.

I have one question who has ever lived in a comunist country ?? I think noone of you. Mensrea you have really no idea about the goverment in such countries and what they can do.
1) Any comunist country is going to have atomic bomb. 2) They do not care about people at all. 3) People in these countries are puppets. 4) FreeZEternal said they don't have anything to lose. 5) They want to be a military strong country.
Look at ZSSR and what they have done to people and other countries.

mensarea maybe you apply internship as s.korea's prime minister...

From what you know about Kim Jong-il, is he the most logical person? What?? You don't know about Kim Jong-il? >_<

The only thing predictable about the North Koreans is that they will act unpredictably.
The wildcard in all of this is China. Someone tell me what their intentions are. Sometimes I wonder if the Koreans might not be a nice diversion from China's intentions for Taiwan....

lol maphack good one ;] ky[z]

North korea is just starving and desperate... they don't act rationally because the situation is so bad over there. They don't really intend to blow up south korea, but the threat gives them a little power.

i think people greatly overestimate how bad things are in N.Korea--after watching several independently produced documentaries about it, while the quality of life is definitely worse than the south, it's not nearly as bad as some of you guys think. they are not "starving" anymore, as the famine is now over. mensrea is correct in that there is no credible offensive threat from north korea to the south. the american media plays up these fears and portrays north korea as some sort of nation filled with dangerous, crazy people.

G_G hmm...well.............. NO? Doesn't North Korea have like a standing army of 1.6 million or somethin?

About 1 million. On the other hand that army suck. Best tank they have is T-72 in limited numbers (and not the upgraded version either) and about 60 modern planes, not even Mig 29 all of them.
North Korean strong points:
*Massive army geared only towards Blitzkrieg tactics. Over 1 million figthing men. *Army allready setup in position for a first strike, and everyone briefed on plans. (Kind of like the Germans invading Poland in WWII) *Over 100.000 special forces units. *No need to worry about defensive depth. The T-72 has an operational radious of well over 500 km's so they can push through the entire South without the need to refuel. * 3500 tanks. 2600 BMP's. * Over 10.000 artillery pieces, good short range rockets. (Probably their biggest asset.
ecent fleet size with over 40 submarines. (I really don't know how big the SK navy is.)
North Korean weak points:
*Inferior armor. The T-72 can only destroy an M1 Abrams at >1000 meters range, while the Abrams can kill a T-72 at well over 3000 m. The Abrams is also a far superior tank in all other aspects. I don't even know if a T-55 can even hurt an A1. *Inferior aircraft capabilities. Only 60 modern era planes, and not even all of them are Mig 29. *Ground-To-Air defenses not good enough. *Rest of the airforce being mainly transport helo's of unknown strength. (Presumed to be pretty good and able to fly very low at over 100 mph's carrying special forces units.) *Having to cross DMZ. *South Korean bases are in the other part of the country.
South Korean strengths.
*Vastly superior airforce. Over 500 modern attack/hunt aircrafts capable of multipurpose mission vs 60 modern aircrafts is GG NO RE. The older NK jets could maybe function as long range fireing platforms but their missile technology is still inferior and the older jets cannot avoid modern 120 Amram missiles. The ancient enemy jets could be shot down by a four year old on crack. Air superiority is key in modern warfare. *Vastly superior tanks. A1 > T-72. The T-72 is an unupgraded version of a tank that's 1 generation away from the tank that was a cheap version of the M1. *Very nice Ground-To-Air defensive network. * Over 1 million reserve troops. * Superior equipment in the infantry and mech inf units. * At least decent navy. (No info.) * The DMZ is the most fortified barrier since the maginot line.
South Korean weaknesses.
* Numbers are defently against them. * NK field artillery will be very unpleasent for infantry stationed at the DMZ and can potentially wipe out major pars of both 1st and 3rd army units. The vast NK artillery is also well within range of the capitol. * Seem to have little reserve units stationed behind the frontlines. * Only a 50 km deep primary defenive line offers way to litte space to give against Blitzkrieg tactis when the entire country is less than 600 km long. * If first battles are lost then there migth not be time for a general mobilisation.
My thougths:
If South Korea manage to buy time in some way their superior airforce will destroy the North Korean army. If the 1 million reserves makes it into the army (or even half of them manage to get there and get organized) the odds are also in favour of the South. If on the other hand North Korea manages to get through the DMZ and push through in true Blitzkrieg fashion they migth get to the bases in the south part of the penisula before they can be stopped. The North Koreans would be more than willing to throw away a a few houndred thousand troops if they can destroy 1st and 3rd army and prevent them from retreating. Their strategy seems to be based around a) Massive all out Blitzkrieg assult on the DMZ. 1 million man march is a bitch to stop, but on the other hand they have no air support. The artillery *migth* make up for that but field artillery cannot stop modern armor. b) Massive deployment of special forces by sea and air units. The South Korean army have to stop the special forces from getting in behind the lines, as such a force will effectivly cut of the front line and both stop supplies and a retreat. It will be up to the air defence network to shoot down the choppers and the navy to take car of the landing crafts and the hoover crafts.
I really wouldn't want to place my bets on the outcome of a war. There's only one thing that is really certain, regardless of what would happen a lot of people would die.
