What is BW?
I can only hope this is a troll post.
NaDa is of corse amazing, but if I had to pick any legendary BW pro to play a showmatch like this, I'd want BoxeR to come back. Unlikely to say the least, but it'd still be hot.
WWWWWHAAAAATTTTT OMFGGG dang that is soo awesome has nada been playing sc2 at all? Will TLO own him like in the TLOwnage videos if he hasnt played? either way i am very excite
Holy shit. But I just cant imagine even the great Nada beating TLO is he hasn't really played SC2. We can only hope that Nada's been sneaking a shitload of games in.
they let a guy who is still training SC:BW play vs a guy who is playing fulltime SCII. yeah great match.... just a big name and u got everyone xD so sad.
I hope Nada has played a fair amount of games so he can fight on even footing with TLO. But if he hasn't and this turns into another episode of TL attack I will enjoy it quite a bit.

Rofl are you serious? Do you think this is some kind of competition? The players know that and want to put on a good show, which they hopefully will do. Thats the purpose of a showmatch, you know? TLO can be very entertaining at times and NaDa... well it's NaDa and I think it's quite sad that ppl. don't appreciate what he has achieved.

Same but they have busy schedules right now so it'd be next to impossible.
Wow if Carmac says it is true then I can only look forward in great anticipation. Thank you so much for making this possible! This is really exciting and it will be great to see a player with Nada's mechanics, ridiculous micro and general amazingness to play against our very own Liquid'TLO.

how do u know how much experience nada had with sc2. besides im certain tlo wont be tvting so i think it wont be as one sided as u seem to think.
NADA!!!! The greatest progamer of all time and one of the best human beings in progaming. TLO is my favorite SC2 player but come on this isn't even close. Hopefully NaDa has played some SC2 since release so we can see some awesomeness.

Lol, good job comparing TLO and Nada. Some people have no clue. I'm pretty sure Nada has not played many games, as he played in proleague quite recently, so TLO should win pretty easily. Great.

TLO is a modern SC2 superstar, yes? Nada is a legend of BW, yes?
How is that having no clue. I played BW when nada was an up and coming star, dont talk to me like some sc2 scrub that never played bw.
EDIT: If this is actually a compliment, I am sorry but it definitely comes off as trying to be insulting.

I don't think it'll matter that NaDa hasn't played many SC2 games. It is similar enough to BW that he shouldn't have a problem. He may not know the exact flavor-of-the-month builds but he should be able to hold his own against TLO.
What people don't understand is that while TLO is doing some cute 1-base reaper play, 10 seconds later he will see 1000000 tanks roll down his natural.
It's like a Rocky film, it doesn't freaking matter who wins. When it's finished you're jumping up and down fist pumping, and you want to become a Boxer.

The only danger I see is that NaDa might fall asleep playing a SC2 showmatch because there isn't enough stuff for him to spend his apm on. To make it fair we should make NaDa juggle and do calculus while he plays.

hehe it's probably just for fun, I dont think Nada actually plays. They should make it like that all-star tornado tag thing they did at the proleague finals.

That is many smart-fires, yes?
(not from the real game but still lol at the reference)
I really want to root for NaDa for the BW love that I have.
But if TLO loses it will be a disgrace and I love TLO.
Has nada even played sc2? I know some of the CJ team has a bit of experience due to IdrA being there and all. Doesn't seem fair. QUICK NADA BUILD TANKS AND VIKINGS
But if TLO loses it will be a disgrace and I love TLO.
wat? How on earth is loosing to NaDa, the fucking BW legend himself a disgrace? i'm pretty sure if you ask ANY of the good foreigner players, they would concider loosing against him a honor =)
This is probably gonna be really disappointing, I doubt NaDa had a decent amount of time to prepare, and TLO will most likely take this very seriously. Predicting a one sided rape if nada had permission to practice only sc2 like idra for at least a week or so before this, the playing field would probably be even
OMGAH. This is gonna be freakin amazing. I don't care if NaDa's never/barely played any SC2, he's still a freaking legend. The amount of titles alone will carry him to be competitive imo. I mean, if random C level ICCUP players can easily make it to Diamond league...imagine how S-class players will do :O
Besides, I'm sure NaDa's practicing as we speak. He has his honor to uphold. It's not like he needs/is practicing BW that much anymore anyways.

Don't give Diamond that much credit. I'm D/D- and I made Diamond.
I think, from July's example, it'd probably take NaDa a week-and-a-half of serious playing to become a top or the top SC2 player, especially if he plays Terran.
I'm not sure he has put in the time yet, but it'll be interesting to see what he can do nonetheless.

meh, doubt it, i think TLO is that kind of a person who knows what S-H-O-W-M-A-T-C-H means. He'll prolly make it as entertaining as possible.
Judging from TLO's games against morrow if Nada plays terran , he has a good chance of beating him or taking some games of him . To be honest TvT hasn't change much in SC2 from BW so if Nada has played at least 10 TvTs in the latest patch he has a good chance at beating TLO knowing that he has a ton of knowledge in this MU from BW .

Yea, but Diamond is still like what? Top 15-20% of all players? C-B Level ICCUP was like what? top 5% of all players? Either way, point I was trying to make is that if you could be an S-class (top like..0.001% of all players) that mechanical skill and ingrained creativity would easily help you pick up any RTS.

According to some recent stats I saw, Diamond is roughly ~5% of the player base. I'll try to find the source.

NaDa is far from S-Class atm. Not even B-Class.
I would say winning five for your last 10 makes you B-Class - he's been relatively average as of late. Not that we really separate anything beyond S and A-class anyways -_-. Also, we are talking about the most successful progamer of all time. I would wager he could beat any foreigner at broodwar - prior to sc2 coming out - in a BO3.

He's definitely deteriorated from his S-class status, I'll admit that. But I doubt he's so far gone as to be only B-class now. Most BW pros only barely manage a 50% winrate anyways :\ Either way, it should be awesome.
Go TLO! Man, just a couple of months ago HD introduced this guy in his videos as some unknown creative player, who does well in tournaments despite playing Random. And almost in a blink of the eye, the man is officially a progamer, going to Korea, and playing showmatch with Nada. This is so awesome! TLO setting an example of unimaginable dreams coming true, and so fast!

Believe it or not... diamond is top 6%
Yeah... I didn't think it was true at first either. Everyone seems to be able to get into diamond.
Skills are definitely transferable, and I wouldn't doubt it if Nada has been playing under a smurf account. Why else would he agree to play against a top player?
hopefully this is going to be epic. Doubtful he has played sc2 that much though. If nothing else then it's still one of the greatest bw-players of all time doing a showmatch in sc2. Either way it's something to watch most def.

I would laugh endlessly if Nada took this show match. I highly doubt it TLO has the upper hand. However I think TLO is vastly over rated and wouldn't be surprised if he got caught out of position by Nada.
I hope Nada has had time to play sc2 a lot. I don't think he can take any games on TLO unless he's really been playing a lot, but hopefully they can make it exciting :D

I'm not sure Nada has even played enough SC2 to know the different shortcuts. Though I'm not sure how many P's and O's Terran has that got moved to V's and E's and other crap like that.

I have the biggest grin right now, oh man I can't wait for this! I can't root for either cause they are both so baller! I'm rooting for the match I guess! haha!
I really hope Nada has been practicing SC2. Hopefully this won't be a deja vu of Garimto vs Grubby. Rooting for Nada but TLO will probably win just because of more SC2 experience.
Nada is great and all, but c'mon you guys, if you think he will beat TLO you are delusional. It's a new game that TLO has been all over, and Nada has barely played. Koreans aren't innately unbeatable by Western gamers.

Oh ya, I totally agree with that. Just replying to the number of posters who seem to feel that "With a little practice" Nada would beat TLO. It would take more than "a little" practice to beat someone of TLO's caliber, no matter what your past experience with RTS is. No offense to Nada, 'cause he's an amazing player. Idra is a macro player; he beats people with his superior mechanics, not with cute strategies. Korean progamer = best mechanics in the world. If Idra > TLO then NaDa > TLO.
TLO losing wouldn't damage his reputation, but NaDa losing would probably upset many Koreans (and rightfully so). I think NaDa will definitely put a lot of effort into learning SCII.
This is so great... I was really sad when TLO lost to MorroW today (not even in "omg matches") and with NaDa as sparring partner these games are set to be awesome
I seriously think people should stop doubting NaDa, SC2 is not a hard game to learn very quickly even if you are very new to RTS's I came into SC2 with very limited RTS experience, and got decent within a few weeks.
Now this is NaDa, the greatest SC player of all time, this guy has beat just about every famous sc player you could name, the game will be simple for him to pickup and just start destroying people, like July did.
Although he is playing TLO one of the current greatest SC2 players, so it should be one of the most interesting matches ever imo.
I am happy to see that both SC and SC2 players are playing vs each other in shows matches like this, it shows much promise for the future of the SC community both Korean and "Rest of the world" I personally would like to see future matches like this maybe IdrA vs Savior or Julyzerg, Boxer vs Tester, etc
Anyhow I am both a massive NaDa and TLO fanboy so this is a wetdream to me.

1 week? more like a day
Yeah honestly, SC2 isn't hard to pick up. One day of massing games for NaDa and he'll be set. I never played BW and got into platinum right away just by watching streams. It's all pretty intuitive if you have an RTS mindset. TLO will obviously have better strategic sense than NaDa, but I have no doubt that NaDa should have amazing mechanics/micro/macro right from the start.
You guys saying that the game is easy to pick up are crazy. Yes you can get into plat if you have a half a brain and macro better than a dead fish, and it doesn't mean anything because it's the general ladder. Come back when you start winning tournaments.
That being said, I'm really excited for this. I just hope NaDa's been practicing or we'll probably see a slaughter :-/

fanboyism much?
Il give flash 3 weeks and he will stil get face rolled by TLO.
You guys treat these korean players like they are GODS of gaming or some sh1t. You do realize that these people put 12 hours EVERYDAY into BW for MANY YEARS to get to where they are.
So you expect them to come in sc2 with 1 week and just own?

The biggest issuses with learning to play RTSs is the mindset, macro, micro, and the general APM needed. Once you achieve these you can pretty much master quickly if it is similar to the one you are use to, and I think SC2 is quite similar to SC:BW

Its not just about the mechanics. Nada will be promoted to diamond almost immeidately. But the difference between TLO and a 500-800 diamond player is HUUUUUGGGEE. Its the experience and knowing the limits of every unit, micro wise, the entire picture of the game is much clearer in TLO. Its not just about knowing builds but knowing how to alter and how to get away with risks and turning them into successes. You don't gain all that in a week sorry, idc who you are.
You guys are gonna be in for a big surprise. The Korean scene is way behind on SC2 right now. Will it eventually pass the Western level of skill? Probably. Will it be as dominant as it was in SC1? No. Watch some of the top Korean replays right now... it's almost laughable. They pull off some cute micro tricks I'll admit, but their macro game is way behind the top Western players right now.
Take a look at WC3... were the top players Korean? To some extent, but there were Western players who consistently were able to play amongst and beat them. Take Grubby for example.
Of course the whole Moon vs Grubby debate is epic... so maybe I shouldn't go there

but koreans are god, they are good at everything, if we go all-in we are noob, if they go all-in its becuase they have epic micro! they spent 32949014312 hours in sc1 broodwar to get to where they were, it makes perfect sense that in 1 week they will beat the best westerners !

Well
Skip to 14:00 Top gamers are genetically equiped to play the game.
You are assuming that all the skill comes from playing the game. Sadly, whatever you want to believe some people are better in play the piano than others, some people are just better Tennis players (mental and/or physical aspect) than others and some people are just better gamer than others. Because end of the day, there are people who puts in so much effort in one thing and eventually they have to face another person who is gifted and puts effort into the same thing.
Of course it's not because Nada has 'Korean genetics' that he's a good RTS player. Look at it this way a lot of Koreans play starcraft. A lot of them would practice 5+hr a day. At least one of those who put a lot of effort in the game have to be genetically better than others. Not everyone's brain functions in the same way. Some are most artistic and some are more mathematical.
The real question is though, isn't TLO somewhat naturally gifted too?

No the question is: Will TLO make nukes and/or Battlecruisers?

You realize that all those years playing BW almost directly carry over to SC2? Foreigners have a slightly better chance with SC2, since the mechanical skill cap is lower, but I don't think that will change anything.
Without even playing, Flash's mechanics are already better than every amateur diamond player. The only reason people might beat him right away is lack of knowledge of the builds, units, counters, etc.
So yes, I do think Flash would dominate after a few weeks of practice. I'm not saying it's out of the realm of possibility that TLO could beat him, but Flash would absolutely be keeping pace with the current SC2 pros.
If SC2 takes off in Korea the way that BW did then they'll dominate in a similar fashion. Western kids sitting in their bedroom playing for a few hours after school/college can't compete with full-time pro-gamers who live in team houses and practice for 12 hours every day.
As for the whole "check their replays, the Koreans are awful" argument; we had this early in the beta, then East and West actually played and the Koreans were shown to be better. Now we've gone a few weeks without Koreans and foreigners facing each other, it seems the same argument has resurfaced, despite there being zero evidence to support it.

That's not entirely correct. A lot of the good westerners play a ton. You CAN fit in eight hours of play with school/college. Just not easily. Plus with the way the game is headed, you will see full time pro gamers in the West. Now there is an argument for skill, and progamers like Nada definitely have that. But whether that skill is any greater than anyone else is entirely debatable. Also of note, if anyone's going to be good at this game, my moneys on China, not Korea. We(America) beat Korea in the US vs China vs Korea showmatch thing in beta, but China beat us. From what I recall, they had the best Warcraft 3 players, and I see a similar trend in Starcraft 2.
Even if Nada hasn't played much, the mechanics are still there. Look at the video Artosis did of Upmagic who played for like 3 days and was keeping pace with Idra. Upmagic isn't even close to how good Nada was.

The mechanics aren't exactly the same. Sure the skill in progaming is, but hitting a key and hitting A for marine is vastly different than clicking on a building and hitting m. So macro is entirely different, and different expectations are required. For example, if you're staring at your buildings a changeling could slip into your army, or you could miss a cloaked unit.
I love both of these guys, seriously... but nada is a LEGEND in every sense of the word and rooting for him. But i still have no doubt this will be amazing

There are certain things that simply just being naturally good at the game won't help with. Timing attacks, scouting certain builds etc. If you see a Terran getting their second gas after rax and before factory you KNOW that they're going banshees with cloak, and only practice is going to a) tell you this and b) help you to counter it.
I agree though, any S-class (or possibly even A-class) with 3weeks of practice would rape any current SC2 players.
You CAN fit in eight hours of play with school/college. Just not easily.
Korean progamers play ~12hours a day, if not more.
There also seems to be this misconception, almost a racist one, that Korean's have some inherent ability to spam more APM than the "untermenschen". Get dimaga, TLO and Jinro in a practice house playing 10-12 hours a day, and you'll see the same level of skill as the Korean teams. That's all it's about- Practice. Just like anything else in life.
In the past, gaming was not taken as seriously in the west, and it still won't be as serious as it is in Korea, but we will see a good number of western players actually dedicate their professional lives to SC2. We can already see that, with TL going to Korea.

thats a pretty bad example. people stereotype TvT because it generally comes down to viking / tank play where air superioty grants the tanks the extra vision to outshoot your opponent's. that is a strategy whereas 'making zerglings' isnt really a strategy in itself. to be fair ZvZ is actually the worst of the mirror matchups with nothing but speedling / baneling play.

I'm well aware WHY tank/viking is strong, but the amount of drop play and marauders in the mix now makes it far from boring. It's not siege line with turrets, taking expansions and turtling forever like it was closer to release and in beta. ZvZ and PvP are both terrible mirrors, especially compared to how tvt looks now.
I read this: Omg what *almost die from excitement*
*tell this to friends that play sc2*
friends: who's nada?
/cry
Anyway,
I am really curious what is gonna happen, since I have no idea at all how much sc2 nada has played, since it is a big difference if he has played atleast some games as practice or if he is still completely new.
If TLO wins this, then wow, being able to say that you got a win on a guy like nada (altough the circumstances may be a bit iffy) is just amazing imo :p

I had wierd dream about this match. Nada and Tlo was getting ready but they had some problems starting because Nada was using his serial port mouse and computer didn't have any serial ports, so he had to lend some usb mouse and then he lost the game bacause of it. Then the troll guy (interviewer) asked why did you lose and nada just slammed the mouse to floor and left.

yeah im wondering if you even watched the freaking video you sent me
1.) it clearly says that the pro is playing purely outa instinct. do you know what that even means? that means hes playing out of muscle memory, he instinctly does it without thinking. there is no intellect/logic/reasoning behind any of those. you get that by playing 1000 hours. any retard can do that when they play that many hours. every idiot on this world knows how to type well. its those that know what to type who succeed.
2.) starcraft barely emphasizes skill when relative to the intellect it suggests
3.) nobody can be gifted at starcraft. you can be gifted to have great dexterity (skil) or/and great intelligence (strategic) but none of that attributes to an overall better play unless the person masses games to play instinctively. like tlo said, the highest level of focus is where your not even aware of what your fingers are doing. they just DO. this DOES not come from someone being gifted, this comes from PRACTICE. Im not sure if your mom told you that you were gifted but to succeed in SC, PRACTICE IS KEY. The same goes for FPS gaming. It doesn't matter if your albert einstein or cristiano ronaldo, if you do not have the feel for the game, if you cannot play instinctively YOU WILL LOOSE TO SOMEONE WHO DOES.

Ha so no progamer must practice like Flash or Jaedong. Am I right? No doubt practice is important, but at higher levels everyone practices hard. I have not even said once you don't need practive btw~ Okay... sorry. You must think that you can play like Flash or Jaedong if you practice as much as them. I'm just going to start rolling on the floor now.
I didn't say starcraft per say, but a gamer. Read what I said. A lot of ppl put a lot of effort into starcraft it doesnt mean they will be the next bonjwa. Some people are born to be better at something, it does not have to be starcraft but skill associated with starcraft. "A person with faster reaction time will benefit in a game like Starcraft". Every progamer put effort in the game, like the video says a person/progamer who practices more than average progamers don't get better than progamers and it asks that question directly. At the end of the day some people will just do better and are born to do better. I am sorry if you think all people have same abilities as others, I just feel pity.
Well assuming skills in BW carries over to SC2. Personally I was D in Iccup but Diamond in SC2. I found SC2 so so easy adept.

That just applies to everyone.
If Flash switched over to SC2, he would probably destroy TLO with 1 week of practice. True story.
fanboyism much?
Il give flash 3 weeks and he will stil get face rolled by TLO.
You guys treat these korean players like they are GODS of gaming or some sh1t. You do realize that these people put 12 hours EVERYDAY into BW for MANY YEARS to get to where they are.
So you expect them to come in sc2 with 1 week and just own?
Some are most artistic and some are more mathematical.

this is dumb
I already stated above that I agree with this. What I don't agree with is you assuming NaDa has some inherent advanced ability in terms of intellect or skill and you proved it by showing the video which DOES NOT say anything about his skill and intellect and only says that the korean pro is playing out of instinct (aka practice)
I am not saying that your wrong, I am saying that your not right until proven.

That's not what they are testing though, Hypothesis: an amatuer gamer a progamer They both practice SC a lot per day. yet one gains pure instinct and one does not (amatuer looks at the game visually a normal human would).
Of course this is far from absolute proof rather looking into the results to draw a strong conlusion.
The documentary is showing only one sample of the study so you can't tell but this is the difference between a top player and players who can never be pros.

I think it is obvious that people like Nada were born with a talent that made them become great. Of course they also practised as hard as they could. But there have been many who have put in so much time yet have failed to reach such great heights. This is very solid proof that it takes more than practise to become perfect.
