Edit: Inaccurate translation. These are the sentences that are being requested by the prosecuters. Not the actual sentencing given by the judge.

I haven't seen it around the forums yet, so I'll translate as best as I can.

The Starcraft Progamers who were involved in illegal gambling have been sentenced to jail based on how involved they were. Progamer Won must pay a fee of 3,000,000 Won (Roughly $3000) and is sentenced to jail for two years. Progamer Ma has been sentenced to jail for 1 year and 6 months.

From 4 pm to 8 pm, the Prosecutors who have been picked to prosecute and research the scandal of Illegal gambling in the Starcraft Progaming community held and resumed its 5th trial.

Broker Park have been sentenced to two years of jail and former Progamers Jung and Choi and a Self-business Owner Mr.Lee has been sentenced to 1 year of jail each.

The Final Sentence for the accused will be held on the upcoming 10th of September at 10 AM.

However, the sentence looks like this for now (will have to wait for the Final Sentence, but this is what has been sentenced for now):

Broker Park: 2 years of jail.
Progamer Won: 2 years of jail + 3,000,000 Won (Roughly $3000)
Progamer Ma: 1 year and 6 months of jail.
Soccer Player Jung: 1 year and 6 months of jail.
Banker Park: 1 year of jail.
Former Progamer Jung: 1 year of jail.
Former Progamer Choi: 1 year of jail.
Self-business Owner Lee: 1 year of jail.

Will be updated as more people will be sentenced, or if the above sentences change.

P.S. My first translation, a bit rough, but this is the general idea.

Source

EDIT 1:

Progamer Ma has stated: "Due to the mistake I have made, I deeply regret my behavior and actions. Although I have to leave the seven years I have been a part of E-Sports, I would like to say sorry to my teammates, my coaches, and everyone who has been a part of E-sports. If I was given another chance, I would contribute everything I can to society and live a rightful, quiet life to work off my indecencies."

Progamer Won has stated: "At first, I did not know what I have done and caused was a big deal, but now that I do realize what I have done, what I have destroyed and contaminated, I am deeply sorry for the fans and my parents. If the court will be more lenient on my charges, I will try my hardest to live a better, and a more respectful life."

Source 2

EDIT 2:

Progamer Ma = Savior
Progamer Won = Justin

Thanks GTR:
Jung = By.1st, former Sparkyz Terran
Choi = Shinhwa, former Hwaseung Zerg

I hate what savior did but I feel sorry for him.

It is sad that these progamers are going to jail. They not only have the lack of education/experience for jobs outside of esports like most progamers, but a prison record on top of it. Will be tough for them to get good jobs.

Sangho was innocent, but was accused by netizens for a while (and retired).
Upmagic was (as was yarnc, lux, go.go, type-b, darkelf, hwasin, etc)

sangho is innocent and retired due to the scandal . Recently he was planning to become SC2 programer

upmagic is ban from kespa also planning to enter the SC2 Scene.

wow, i had thought that the whole thing would blow over with some fines and a few scripted apologies. being sent to jail when you are barely in your twenties is a nightmarish scenario - though i was as pissed as any other sc fan about the scandal, i can't help but be bothered by the sentence.

edit: does anyone know anything about south korea's prison system? how are the conditions and are reduced sentences common for good behavior?

Rofl that's exactly what I thought after seeing so many progamers in jail. Boxer made a team for the military, Savior is gonna make a team for the players in jail.

On topic. 1+ years is really harsh omg

In western countries isn't it what you get when driving under the influence ? I mean they almost destroyed the BW pro scene, but they didn't threaten directly any human life.

I haven't been following this issue very closely, so I'm curious, why is it Savior gets jai time when Upmagic is free to enter other progaming scenes?

I'll be surprised if any pro team decides to trust any of these guys...

Ogogo was sent to prison? For what?

Loved his play early in the scene during his WCG (2004?) run. Everyone thought ogogo was gonna be the next big thing but turned out to be a total bust.

Upmagic hasn't been sentenced (yet at least), and even if he does get time, it will be a lot less than Savior, because Savior brokered match fixing for other players, he deserves what he gets.

haha, in western society for driving under influence you get a warning and 2 more chances before they revoke your license, THEN send you to jail.

Upmagic hasn't been sentenced (yet at least), and even if he does get time, it will be a lot less than Savior, because Savior brokered match fixing for other players, he deserves what he gets.

I thought the rumour that Upmagic was joining sc2 was officially denied by estro and Artosis might have gotten in trouble for the interview he did? I dunno, it was in one of those odd and ends news Milkis does, and nobody really said anything about what happened about it.

They all got summary charged without a trial. They had the right to request one, like go.go did but apparently go.go got shut down in the court in 5 minutes by the judge.

Basically everyone not on that list that were involved got a fine/banned from KeSPA, and I don't think they'll ever able to do anything esports related

Korean Prison System Progaming Team !!

Rofl that's exactly what I thought after seeing so many progamers in jail. Boxer made a team for the military, Savior is gonna make a team for the players in jail.

On topic. 1+ years is really harsh omg

In western countries isn't it what you get when driving under the influence ? I mean they almost destroyed the BW pro scene, but they didn't threaten directly any human life.

haha, in western society for driving under influence you get a warning and 2 more chances before they revoke your license, THEN send you to jail.

No wonder people keep having deadly car accidents then. In China it's revoked license + 2 weeks of jail and/or community service. Plus your visa is revoked as well if you are a foreigner. Holy shit 1 year and a half

I hope there are no Savior haters in jail... for his butt's sake.

He was not *sentenced* to jail yet. The prosecutors demanded 1 year and 6 months of imprisonment for Ma. And since he's a first-time offender, he will probably be put on probation, and won't go to jail anyhow.

Yeah, a fine and a lifetime ban seemed like it would be enough; wasn't really expecting jail time, whether or not it will be actually served.
You have to wonder how their parents are thinking. I assume that the Korean parents are as rabid about education and high-paying jobs as their Chinese counterparts are.

Wow, jail? Im glad they are taking this seriously for esports but thats a pretty big deal to be sent to jail for 2 years for match fixing. In a way I kind of feel bad for them. These guys put in so much time and effort to be progamers yet they don't get anything back because they just werent good enough or are not doing well, then they result to match fixing and get screwed over.
Hope is the first step on the road to dissapointment

Justin deserves this. The kid got half of his team into trouble.

Well, at least all future generations of progamers will remember this incident due to Savior's involvement. Let's call it his last "contribution" to the development of e-sport, a big red memorable warning sign.

Fun fact: If you search for "Savior" in google image, Ma Bonjwa's face is the first to pop up, followed by Jesus Christ who occupies the honorable 2nd slot. That's quiet an achievement.

Why do so many people think this is just about throwing a starcraft match? this is a lot bigger than starcraft. This is about contributing to illegal gambling (and in the case of Justin and Savor, brokering with players to expand the match fixing ring) which is taken seriously. The fact that its related to Starcraft made it more of a front-page material, so there's more of a need for an example to be set, but this is bigger than just 'taking this seriously for esports'..

I just wish that sentences like that, and taking it so serious would extend to football too (and all sports in general, cheating + corruption is making everyone suffer).

Another problem with this is that those progamers will have a criminal background, and will have difficulty finding employment. In essence, their futures are destroyed.

jail time is deserved for illegal gambling, as moopie said your all missing the bigger picture then it just being the throwing of a starcraft match so to speak.
