Staff Note: We don't endorse donation threads. In fact after a number of previous issues, we basically have a full out ban on them. However, in this case we are allowing it because of Artosis's status and contributions to the community. Artosis brought the issue up with the TL staff before creating this topic.

Hey all! I hoped to never have to do this, but, the Camera I use for all my content is out of date, very poor picture quality, horrible sound quality, and requires repairs from time to time. Also, I've been borrowing it from a friend who also loves SC (thx rick <3) all this time lol.
So I come to the community asking for anyone who wants to, to help me on the way to replacing this. As SC2 comes out, I will be continuing plenty of Korean-based coverage, but also traveling to every major LAN around the world.
Thanks so much to all the SC fans out there who have enjoyed my videos and left nice comments and/or criticisms over the past couple of years, without you it wouldn't have been worth it. If you feel like it, please feel free to donate any amount to this just cause!

I know it looks bad whenever asking for money but I know 100% that Artosis is not trying to bullshit anyone... he constantly uses his camera to contribute to the bw community, mostly out of the goodness of his nerdy heart and love of esports.
Seriously this guy let me share a bed with him on a whim when I had nowhere to stay he's awesome.

Dans job probably is mostly writing atricles and thats the part he gets paid for, i think he just does everything else for the community. I would donate but im not in the best finicial state to help.

nah. I love my life. I just want/need to replace the camera, can't really afford to, so anyone with some extra cash laying around in their paypal that wants to give some can help me out if they like. Lets not discuss the other stuff. I've gotten a great opportunity out here, I've sacrificed a lot, yeah, but I'm definitely enjoying it, don't regret a thing, etc.
I'm as legit as they come in eSports, if you don't want to donate I have absolutely no problem in the world with that

Why are so many people causing crap over this.. Artosis is a beast and he provides an insane amount of content for the community, it's not like he's getting mad money doing what he does... he just loves the game and wants to give back.
If the community can help him do his job better and more effectively, that'd be awesome <3

A lot of us are students with not much extra money lying around. And with SC2 coming out ... and so many ppl upgrading their comps ... asking for donations is a little surprising.

People want to upgrade their comps so that they can have more fun playing. Artosis wants a new camera so that the videos he makes for the community can be of higher quality. The community bought Day[9] a new computer, this is a lot more like that than the example you gave.

Artosis your amazing and I have enjoyed your videos and really want to help you out, but I'm only 17 and haven't even gotten my first paycheck from my summer job yet. I'll send you like $15 in two weeks, once I get my paycheck and figure out how to make a paypal account :D

Sorry I'm not getting you. He can't afford a camera right now. If he gets a camera he'll provide us with awesome. He can only get a camera if we help him. I'm not understanding some alternate solution you are aware of.

2bad u dont know anythign about me. i havent preordered SC2 yet. on my next paycheck i will. i upgraded my comp last year. it was teh hungriest month of my life. thanks for being my moral compass though.

I mean anyone should be able to buy a decent webcam for $50 (and used webcam probably can be gotten for even less). I don't think that's a big enough deal to be calling in a "TL favor" for donations. Unless Artosis is really in some financial rut I dunno why he wouldn't just save a little bit of money ... that's probably a week or two max of cutting back on expenses.
Anyway I won't derail the thread any longer or reply. I'm sure Artosis will reach $200 easy.

A little help with the $4000 I had to save up for my camera/lens to upgrade from my old Nikon (Taking the total spent on StarCraft related items/events to over $8000) would have been nice, but saving up was a good exercise in willpower. Luckily cameras here aren't too pricey if you find the right dealer.

If your current camera sucks that bad, then a hand small HD one would already be a decent upgrade.
Didn't you work and had access to some kind of studio to record your weekly shows ? Don't they have nay second hand camera to sell you could shoot with?
You should link up the price and model and ask to Koreans around for retailers than sell second hand material.

Save up for one of the flip cameras. Almost every youtube personality uses those cameras for vlogs, they record in HD, are extremely simple and durable and reasonably priced. Hopefully that way we can see you become the most biased interviewer outside of FOX News even more, but in HD!

This was how most militaries worked for a long time, pretty much until the Marian reforms soldiers were expected to pay for their own equipment and what they could afford would give them their role(those incapable of affording even the basic breastplate would be unarmoured skirmishers)
After the Roman Empire collapsed most society still expected warriors to pay for their own equipment, nobility of course being rich could afford horses and armour and Kings would expect their fiefs to supply their own soldiers or pay for mercenaries when requested. It wasn't until more modern militaries began to surface that this was abandoned or lessened, but even then having money guaranteed you a spot as an officer until recently(and arguably still does via education)
