Gradually, the whispers die down and the captain starts to speak. Your heart and time itself come to a screeching halt. “I pick Kennigit,” he says. The rest of the kids hurry onto the field as you are immersed in the agony of being the last one picked, the fat kid, the one less desirable than Kennigit.

Core Maps: Destination, Heartbreak Ridge, Neo Medusa, Outsider, God’s Garden, Shades of Twilight
More information on the map rotation will be given once the league starts.
Format:
There will be eight teams of ten players. Each team will play all of the other teams once (for a total of seven matches). There will be five BO3s in each match and two matches per week over the four weeks. On the fifth week, the second and third place teams will play a 7v7 (7 BO3s), and then the winner will play a 7v7 against the first place team. There is a possibility of 2v2 team matches in the semifinals and finals. Standings will be determined by the win-loss ratio.
Each week, the team coaches PM me their lineup for the two games to be played. Each player must be used once. If a player cannot play for this week, put “SUB” in his slot, and I will randomly choose another player from your team and PM you back.
All games will be BO3, with the map orders and matchups posted in the weekly tournament thread. COACHES, I encourage you to talk to your players to determine their map preferences. Players are responsible for PMing me the results, along with replays, if possible, so the tournament thread doesn’t get too cluttered.
Team selection:
Coaches, I will PM each one of you about the time and place for the team selections. We will most likely meet on iCCup or the IRC channel. PM me back a number between 1 and 1000 so I can decide the selection order. For the selection process, each player will be given a certain number of points (up to 10). Each coach chooses one player in the designated order as long as he remains at or below 25 points. If he reaches 25 points before choosing 10 players, he must choose players with 0 points. Afterwards, each coach will choose a team name.
Signup:
Sign up for a player and/or coach spot. Include your Z/T/P/Random/Race Pick and max iCCup rank if you sign up as a player. I will take the first eight coaches and first eighty players who sign up. DO NOT PM me; post in this thread. If you signed up to be both a player and coach, if a coach slot is available, you will be a coach. Otherwise, you will be a player. COACHES CANNOT PLAY.

**The “A” and “B” are used by the coaches when they PM their lineups. These games can be played at any day during the week (on or before Friday), regardless of whether it’s for Match A or B (you can play your Match 2 games on Monday or your Match 1 games on Friday, if it works better for your schedule).

Signups are closed now. I think we have more than 80 players signed up. I'm adding another team (coach and eight players) spot, but I don't think it will accomodate If this turns out well, it'll be up in another six to eight weeks, though, so be on the lookout for it!

I noticed something that can become a small problem. If you sum up all the players you will get a total of 214 points. And all the eight coaches only have 25 points each. Meaning that they cant buy all the players. So you will have to fix your system abit i guess.
edit: nm, i thought there was only 80 players. But since its over 80 i guess its fine

Yes. Each team has ten players and plays two matches (5v5) each week, so each player plays once a week.

My Korean friend have once said that the true reason why SC in Korea is far more advanced compared to other country is because they played the game as a team, discuss it as a team, and improve as a team.
Maybe this tourney will be a small, yet important step to improve SC level among foreigners.

That creates some players that are overvalued, and some players that are undervalued, which helps determine who is a better coach at picking players.

With this format, every player counts, since each week is basically a 10 vs. 10 Best of 3, using all ten players. Therefore, even though high-priced players get you an easy victory, you must balance that out with some 0 pointers, which might lead to 2 or more losses, then it might not be worth it. Of course, playoffs are of a different matter, since it is just a 7v7 Bo3 in one week, but you might not even reach the playoffs.
25 Points is a big limitation, as this leaves 2.5 points to each player to allocate. Allocating to higher point players leaves you more room for error on the 0-1 point scale pool of players.
With that said, valuing players is important, as finding overpriced/underpriced players is the key component of whether a team can make the playoffs.

So is there any idea when the first matches are going to played? Also time constraints? Any idea how we're going to deal with timezone differences?

First matches (A and B) start Monday and can be finished AT ANY TIME before Saturday. So everyone had five days to play their BO3, which will hopefully deal with timezone differences.

As a coach, we do not know which team are facing against. Am I correct?

how are the team vs. team games set up? How are games decided? Can coaches chose who they want to play at one time? For example if one player is TERRIBLE at pvz (me) and doesn't race pick, can they use another player? Is that decided by points?

You set up a time to play before Saturday. There's no way we can play them simultaneously (too many time conflicts).

The Coaches choose beforehand knowing only the opposing team, not which players are up (so the coaches choice of where to put you should be based PURELY on maps). Then, there's one switch after the lineups are made if the coaches PM me their lineups in time. I hope the new thread answers all your questions.

I'm really not sure why the map selections have each matchup playing the same map twice. That's kind of lame.
I also really really don't understand the format. Do all 10 players on a team play, or are 5 picked for "Match A" that can be picked for "Match B" too. Which teams do we even play? Why are there only 9 teams? I'm sure you have it figured out, but it would be nice to let us know too. =o

These six maps will be used every week to encourage beforehand preparation and "sniping." So players, even lower-ranked ones, can become "specialists" on certain maps.
