We had some great players not quite make it into the top 16 of the ladder qualifier, but when the dust settled we found a very exciting tournament unfolding. With a progamer, a former progamer, the winner of the TSL, and the top non-Korean in WCG all in the Round of 16, along with other top rate foreigners, we are looking forward to some great games!
SC2GG Starleague Ro16 begins next Sunday, April 12 with a "live" replay cast of some of the games. No one should know the results except the players and the ref until these broadcasts, but as with TSL or other matches of this sort, we decided to cast the replays due to lag and organizational concerns. There will be a uStream feed available - I will update this thread closer to the date with exact times and with the stream link when it becomes available. Click here for times around the world.
Stream casting will be done by Moletrap.
We are going to cast at least one game from every group. Depending on time and interest we may cast the other games as well. I.e... if we have 4 epicly long games that last hours then we will probably leave off there, unless a ton of people are still watching and want us to continue. Games that will be "live" cast are in bold. These and the rest of the games will be VOD'ed and put on youtube within a couple days after.
Group A ToT)XiaOzI( (Z) <Andromeda> (T) IdrA NaW-Tarson (T) <Sin Chupung-Ryeong> (P) NvG.MaNa
Group B BVG.Draco (P) <Sin Chupung-Ryeong> (T) RoX.aoOa Artosis[Media] (T) <Return of the King> (P) LRM)aSyOhI
Group C NaW-Kr (P) <Return of the King> (T) ESC.Strelok NaW-Saab900- (Z) <Carthage> (P) ESC.Yayba
Group D ESC.IefNaij (P) <Carthage> (Z) Get.Oystein* LRM)OctZerg (Z) <Andromeda> (Z) NrT.UltraLinG
*-Due to matchup listing, Get.Oystein will be playing ZvP, not PvP.
XiaOzI > Idra 3 hatch ling all-in, put lings on ramp to block scout and kept his extra lings out of sight, lings arrived just before medics came out
Tarson < MaNa MaNa went 3 base carriers, got 2 of his bases destroyed, took out all the tanks with his carriers and countered while getting more bases up, Tarson couldn't get enough goliaths out, nice long game, back and forth
Saab900 > Yayba 3 hatch spire with scourge into mass lings.. researched carapace and melee weapons the whole game, barely got any hydras. Saab barely held off Yayba who held him to 3 bases while getting his 3rd, but eventually caught Yayba out of position and destroyed his nat with swarm/ling/5-3 ultras. Yayba was getting up a 4th at the time but couldn't macro enough units out to save his main from the next attack. Lost all his tech and was stuck defending with just reavers and cannons. Eventually Saab got his spire back up (which he had lost to a dt drop earlier) and mutas > reavers/zealots. Another nice, long, back and forth game.
These are OSL style round robin groups, so each player will be playing a different person from their group in a similar cast next weekend.
Feel free to discuss predictions for the day 1 matches or hype your favorite player! This is NOT a thread to discuss what you think about my casting or who your favorite caster is. If you have any comments along those lines that you feel you must express, PM me but do not litter the thread, please. For more info on the Round of 16, check the sc2gg thread.
no i mean the worst kind to play against, the most dangerous cuz theyre utterly fucking retarded and know absolutely nothing about the game, that combined with protoss units is a very scary mixture. its like playing vs fenix, except even dumber.

wouldnt that be fuckin scary? never know when theyre gonna trip and fall and accidentally set off a rocket that hits you in the crotch thats like a mid game dt drop that kills 5 depots.
in their forum it says 5 pm eastern time, which if you googled that you would find that that is 11 PM CET..... which is actually really late for a sunday night. errrrrrrr

well that's weird, it says in their forum that some games will be livecasted, so i assumed that the games would be played then but i guess it was yesterday..they should've sent out emails to the players or something lol
What e-mails, is that hard to make news or add msn? Or anything like that stuff? I check e-mail maximally once a week... I was sure that we play today because saw that in gg.net bets and in sc2gg news post!
Well let's just wait until admins will come to this thread and say. But what pieces me mostly is that yesterday 17:00 in which other ppl played - i was online waiting for iccup cl and noone said me to go play. Nor admins or other players...
If people checked their mail they would have seen it. We received 2 emails one included check in times and time for the games to be played (it even included the time in several timezones) Then the next we received shortly after clearly stated that the games was suppose to be played on the 4th.
this will be funny, idra 24/7 player vs xiaozi 24/7 player... at least now xiaozi is @ 24/7 mode, 4 accounts on iccup (3 1x1, 1 2x2) with almost 350games since iccup restarted 1month and some weeks ago. Definitely they practiced a lot, lets see what is going to happen :D
i was under the impression it was tonight in like 2 hours. i even wrote it on my calendar the day i recieved teh mail. obviously if everyone thought that then there was something wrong with the mail.
ah if it says teh 12th in the news post then thats what happened. we all read on the news post and then skipped the email cuz we already ahd the right info.
Yeah, the emails said the games were yesterday, but apparently almost everyone was confused about it. Originally we were going to have replays from games played on the 4th to cast on the 5th "live" but since so few of the games happened on the 4th due to that confusion, we have allotted another week for the games to be played, and will now be casting on the 12th instead, hence the news post.
Strelok or anyone else, I'm sorry if you didn't get the update emails in time. If email updates won't work for you, PM me your MSN or however else you can be contacted and I'll give you updates as soon as I get them or I'll work out something with WC8 (Alex) to let you know.
So yeah... I think Alex sent out an email to this affect already, but if not or if you haven't gotten it, then from what I understand everyone has a week to get their games done and get replays to him by next weekend for the cast next Sunday.
Jesus, I don't know who half these players are. Xiaozi, Idra, Draco, Artosis, Strelok, Yayba, JF, OctoberZerg and Ultraling I know, but what about the other 7 players?
Are these players just obscure or do they have different nicknames I might know? Or have I been out of the loop regarding the foreign scene for too long?

I'm telling you, it actually benefits you to play vs lesser players every now and then.
I definitely appreciate SC2GGs efforts to run the tournament, but.....
1) the organisation seems to be a bit shaky, to say the least 2) why is it possible that the threads on TL.net are much clearer and more detailed than the ones on SC2GG itself? Ok, I know their layout is really hard to get accustomed to but the contents could be tuned up a little.

Thats weird, all of those other players have been good for a long time, and pretty well known for a long time as well. Actually the only one that *might* not be known is Chapizor. all of the rest of those players have been around for ages already.
asyohl is good from what I remember playing him awhile back
*edit* what I'm trying to say is I wouldn't be surprised if he gave Artosis good games or maybe even beat him:-) but I still love artosis with all my heart

I came just now to post about the progress bar. I could predict the game turnout from when I saw ling contain already, because a FE toss is not going to win that fast. Pretty much ruined it for me. Can someone post on sc2gg thread, incase they don't see the complaints here? Maybe they can fix it before next game.
It's lagging for everyone outside the US probably. Mogules quality is much better. Can't they use that? And it can handle 5k people someone said. And it doesn't lag afaik. Did they actually do test runs? Greth is Belgium. He should know they can't use ustream.
I don't get it. Why can't they do a better job. Stream quality sucks, buffers. Replay bar isn't blocked. They delayed for a week and they only have 1 commentator? WTF?
my stream is running quite smoothly, only problam is the retards spamming, and that it freezes if I go fullscreen, other then that, its quite good actually, and Øystein won ! gogo
On April 13 2009 06:19 Diomedes wrote: They delayed for a week and they only have 1 commentator? WTF?
Happened with the last liquibition, too. It's not that hard to understand, is it?
They delayed because Idra, JF, Oystein, Strelok all didn't show up, at the least. It seems the players were also to blame, but in the end it's their show.
It's different from Nony quitting halfway because of lag after lag tests went successful. And even if it is different, so what? It's not like they don't have the talent at SC2gg. They are just lazy with this or what?
It's just lack of ambition if you ask me. They could do better if they wanted, besides problems one runs into.

Going full screen will let you see what's going on in the bottom part of the minimap. It's still not quite perfect, and it's blurry as hell, but it's useful for quick checks.

JF and me showed up last weekend and played the game, and there were several others there also, but they were missing opponents. In total I think 2 of the 8 games was played last weekend.
Oh I forgot the names, donno who exactly it was since I just read it here. They had one more week to prepare because players forgot to check their mail en masse. Now I think I remember Artosis was also one and not you and JF doesn't even post here lol.
At least now I don't lag anymore. But I guess now someone else is.

IdrA made sloppy and low level mistakes. XiaOzi didn't. Cheesing is part of the game at all levels, and IdrA needs to grow up and deal with that.
Well in comparing luxury to Bisu in terms of the respective matchup(Zvp) Luxury probably did 5 pool because he is a "noob" relative to Bisu in that particular match up. Him winning a straight up game probably wasn't very likely. However I'm not necessarily extending that to this game, I'm just addressing your analogy.

Are Jaedong and Luxury noobs because they 5 pool?
What he said was true. How does that even deserve a ban? You seriously are an idiot.
Because he is an idiot. You can say something that's true and still be an idiot. And he shouldn't be saying anything at all if you don't play SC yourself.

I don't understand why Idra doesn't play super safe against non-Koreans. He believes that he is better then them so why not make a bunker in that game against Xiaozi and just be really safe and defensive since his better mechanics should carry him to a victory.

Dude they are just here to bash on Idra, not understanding anything, and calling me an idiot first. Don't blame me for that.
Idra doesn't play safe. He either doesn't care, is too stubborn, whatever. He will probably not tell us anyway with all the hate out there, justified or not.
They should think first, post second. And when they are called out they shouldn't resort to calling people idiots.
I wish people would actually respect Idra more. I mean yeah he's BM, but if that's his personality, so what? He's the only foreigner playing in Korea right now. Yes, he loses to other foreigners, but I'm sure Flash and Leta and co. have lost to 3 hatch lings before.

i wont be making it out of the group i emailed them a week ago that xiaozi has horrible lag, with me at least (and with a bunch of other people, though he claims he doesnt). they chose to do nothing about it, so ive withdrawn from the league.

Thats one of the most pathetic things i ve ever read... The reason why he lost respect ( if he ever had some in the first place) is because he is a BM kid, and saying its his personality its even more lame.. He cant even think a little before posting and he cant show respect to his fellow gamers like gg after the game or "shit talk" on the forums..

So? Im just saying that every D+ zerg can do that too. You aren't even disputing this so why call me an idiot?
They can both play at A- level. They did neither because it was a cheese game. Yeah, D+ zergs can beat A- terrans. That's how the game works. But don't call me an idiot or Idra a D+ player.
thats not how the game works. a d+ player would not beat idra using the strat tim did.
I used the same build vs Strelok, timed exactly before medics and beat him as a D+ player. Anyone can beat a top terran with 3hat ling as long as you kill the scv and the attack comes before the medics.

What other people? You are just saying facts "from air", get those people here if you want valid argument, this is just...childish.
Accpet the lose and gg. Xiaozi was better player that game end of story, if he did lag ( wich I doubt as your every loss has some explenation that "disturbed" you from wining) then it would effect him much as you. And I know you will tell that it effects more Terran then Zerg, but hey, you are progamer, you do scout and you know what is 3 hatch mass speedling?
Ok, sorry. But things and excuses he says are just ridicilous. Is it so hard to take lose and continue to play?
@ Yayba vs Sab9000
I really don't know how did Yayba lose that + stream was going down that replay 2-3 times so it was bit hard to follow.
But I just think Sab9000 attacked with right force in right timing window. When I seen Defiler usage without lurkers vs mass zeal+arch+goon I did think Yayba really has the game.
Map is imho very nice for Zerg too so maybe that was also a factor for Sab9000.

Yeah, we're going to try to figure something out for next week. Usually uStream works fine so it was disappointing that it decided not to. We might try to switch to mogulus if we can figure out how to get our account "verified" heh.
Anyway, it's actually OSL style groups.. round robin (each player plays everyone else in their group once). So there's no losers match, JF will just have to play the others in the group and try to get 2-1.
I think Idra is easily one of the better foriegners out there but he needs to learn to tackle his nerves. His mechanics are so nice but he makes little mistakes here and there that along with his lack of mental toughness cost him games.

Not really. Imagine a world without BM people like Idra, Firebathero, go.go, and that Jose Mourinho guy.
People like Idra make eSports and sports interesting. If everone was gm than there would be much less drama.

All the best games in Sc were because of the skill and intensity displayed in the matches, not because of some bm guy vs gm guy. If Idra actually put all his focus and effort of bming into practice and learning, I'm pretty sure he'll be better off then how he is right now.
If you want some rivarly and drama why don't you go watch some "professional" wrestling or somehting?

Thats a ridiculous assertion..I dont think he practices "being bm", you really dont think he sits around for hours thinking of things to say when he gets cheesed, that pretty silly, it just comes out naturally. And the lag issue was clearly brought up before the match, so its not an excuse out of nowhere. But yea I guess thats all that needs to be said, or rather can be said. I hope for some good matches from the rest.

I think what fantasy means is that IdrA needs to change his attitude if he wants to go anywhere in this game.

I suppose that would make more sense than the way he said it, but nonetheless this isn't necessarily true either way.
Clearly IdrA has accomplished nothing.
Only foreign progamer currently playing in korea? Isnt that an accomplishment in itself? Getting invited in to cj. Given a free progaming license. Beating yellow 2-0 at blizzcon.

Are there VODs of this yet? I can't seem to find any youtube links. Is the second round starting soon? I want to watch the VODs of the first round before then.
I am sorry to have to do this again, but due to several issues that came up this week, we will be postponing this weeks broadcast and merging it with next weekends Week 3 broadcast. Certain players were unable to show up in the timeslot that was given this week, which is out of our control. So you will get the best games of Weeks 2 and 3 in one week. Again, sorry to do this, but we would rather bring you the best casts possible, even if it means a delay.
The VODs from Week 1 are currently in a sticky situation, as our streamer's computer has died recently (meaning he'll have to replace really really expensive components) and he can not retrieve them at this time. They will be up as soon as possible.
Ah well, wouldn't have been able to watch today anyway.
Found this newer update in my quest for the VODs, some guy named Eric (not WC8) says:
Not entirely true, as the VOD machine didn't break, but they have been delayed due to personal issues, (missing kitten among other stupid things). They're currently uploading, and will be available shortly.
Good news is the VODs will be up soon. However, I don't understand how VOD uploads can be delayed a full week by something like a missing cat. If your computer crashed, that's understandable, but it's not like setting your computer to upload cuts into your search time for a missing pet. They are completely unrelated events.
Will they be commentated only by one guy or were the commentaries redone by SC2GG's more well known commentators? It seems like a really bad misuse of resources to not have Diggity, Cholera, or Klazart commentate the SC2GG Starleague. Aren't they your headline commentator guys? How can they NOT be commentating this? Hopefully the VODs will have commentary by them.

The cat may have downloaded the VODs and stole them. You never know.
He did in fact have a computer meltdown this week, but it is back up and running.

I'm surprised Idra doesn't player safer given his strengths and weaknesses are very well known. A bunker and/or keeping his troops on the ramp might have changed things quite a bit. I suppose there is a good reason for why he didn't since he's a pro and all but I'm not seeing it.
Normal Idra BM too, I can smell the flames already.

Sorry I wasn't thinking when I read that. I thought it was a Bo1.
I wonder if "everyone" in cj knows about the general bm that idra seems to possess. I understand results are really in the end what matters and people have personalities, progamers are just kids. Well, its not badmanner to boycot a tournement, but I think what some people react to is the fact that you played a game first (lost) and then withdrew. Your statement would have had much more force if you had withdrawn before the game.
Anyways, from one thing to another, loving the fact that you are still in Korea, and that you are performing well, when is the next chance you get to enter a league/play televisioned match, is it osl qualifiers, or will the ESCW be aired somewhat in Korea?

Yes, he loses to other foreigners, but I'm sure Flash and Leta and co. have lost to 3 hatch lings before.
Too bad the stream died so many times today, but whatever, I'm sure they'll fix it by the second broadcast. Imo nobody played spectacular today, but I think Oysetein needs to win his next match because I think JF will win in the Loser's match. Xiaozi should make it out of his group imo, and if Idra plays safer he should make it too.
i wont be making it out of the group i emailed them a week ago that xiaozi has horrible lag, with me at least (and with a bunch of other people, though he claims he doesnt). they chose to do nothing about it, so ive withdrawn from the league.
WTH you didn't withdraw. you played and lost. why ur lying so obviously? You forfeited 2nd game but you were down 0-1 already, so don't make it sound like you never played him....
idra may be very BM for withdrawing after a loss from xiaozi
but you failed horribly at reading comprehension here lol
ok i agree, i didn't follow the event so much, i thought it was bo3 Round robin. My fault, but that it was just bo1 makes it even worse imho. And Idra, i also never said you said you didn't play it. But you made it sound that way. you emailed BEFORE the game that there is lag and they did nothing about it so you have withdrawn. Thats definately "They didn't decide about the lag problems BEFORE the game so i've withdrawn BEFORE the game"
Anyway, no sence to discuss with any further.
I don't think anyone else in this thread thinks that Idra is trying to say he withdrew before his game with Xiaozi, only you think that.
The tournament isn't being badly run. It might be badly broadcasted, and badly attended, but we're doing everything we can to get people to show up. As IdrA stated, we kept sending emails; what more can we do? Show up at the players houses with torches and pitchforks and demand they play or we'll slay them? We have times, we have site representitives show up, and so on.
The format was a mistake and will not be repeated - it was OSL style. You need to lose twice to be eliminated from the group stage, so it's not like you're one and done like NCAA Basketball.
Future iterations of this will be a more generic, normal format.
Speaking of which, people have also complained about normal, generic formats as well, by the way, which is why we did it the OSL way. You can't have it both ways, people - either it's a normal, generic format that people find easier to follow, or it's something that's hard to follow and a bit more confusing.
This was the first attempt at a decent sized tournament, and I've spoken to staff about "following advice" and "learning from mistakes", so we'll be taking that into account.

i send you an email a week beforehand saying we have bad lag and you ignore it thats bad administration

Player no-shows do suck, and often there's nothing you can do about it. But my biggest question is why isn't Klazart, Diggity, Cholera, etc doing full 2 or 3 commentator per game on this league the day after at the latest? Isn't SC2GG's commentating its biggest strength and draw to viewers? It makes no sense why you wouldn't have all of these guys commentating every game. You guys are known for your commentating. This would be like Samsung sponsoring WCG then having all the monitors be Sony. I'm sure the fans and community want to hear them, and there's no bigger or more important event for SC2GG.
Get them to do it!
edit: Also, wouldn't it be easier to just use one of your existing director accounts on youtube so you don't have to upload the vids in parts?

There was an open call for the casters to come out for the event. Cholera, Diggity and Klazart were unable to do it, or did not reply. We do have others lined up, but we had some difficulties in the timing of the first weekend, however the solo's should be a thing of the past (this coming weekend should be Rise and moletrap).
Eric who does the streaming and encoding for us works for eSTV, so that's why they were on that account, but I personally don't have control of the VioleTAK account (the only one that any SC2GG members control that you don't have to split the videos as far as I know). So the best we'd get is just moving them to the SC2GG account at this point (which would still be in parts).
This weekend will be a broadcast of the best games of Weeks 2 and 3. Not sure how many we'll do yet, but as many as the casters allow.
Oh and IdrA, I told you: I wasn't compromising the groups, done by ladder seeding, because you wanted perfect playing conditions. I don't control the internet.

If players are complaining that an event is badly organized, it most likely is. People don't show up for a reason. If the tournament was being run better and more smoothly, players would put more stock in making sure they show up and play their games on time. The fact that there are no shows means that the event is likely being run poorly.
Look like Idra is going to beat Mana, Carrier force not able to attack Idra's army with the amount of Gol he has. At least I think, hard to tell with on and off video Idra's army in the middle Mana goon/carrier near his own base

Spoilers for games not yet casted inside. Approach with caution. + Show Spoiler +
I do need to correct some mis-information I gave on the stream Sunday, regarding the players advancing. I rushed through the results while we were broadcasting the games and didn't check my numbers so I would have it ready to go. Groups A and B are fine with what I announced, XiaOzI then IdrA for Group A and Draco then Advokate for Group B. However, Group C does in fact hang in the balance of the postponed Strelok-Saab900 game. If Strelok wins, he will force a 3-way tie between himself, Yayba and Saab900 and that will be broadcast Sunday. Also, I believe that I said that there might be a tiebreaker in Group D. No such luck. IefNaij will be advancing no matter what. The postponed game between Oystein and OctZerg will be an elimination game, winner moving on. If OctZerg wins, he is D2 and JF is D1. If Oystein wins he is D1 and JF is D2 (head-to-head).
I'm really sorry that I did that, and I'll check my shit a lot more before I do that again next time
Tiebreakers WILL be going down. This weekend, see Strelok, Yayba and Napoleon duke it out for 2 available spots in the Round of 8. Sure to be exciting games.
