Day 1 + Show Spoiler [The PGL Format] +PGL has an unusual, but innovative, format. The 16 players are in 4 randomized groups, and to eliminate the possibility of a "group of death" eliminating a good player early, the groups will play each other in a clanwars-style match before the intra-group matches. For example, if group A defeats group B, and then defeats the winner of group C vs group D, two of its players will go to the Ro8 and two of its players will go to "extra matches" and still have a chance to make it to the Ro8. Which two would advance to the Ro8? That would of course be decided in intra-group matches. However, if group A loses twice instead of winning, two of its players will go to "extra matches" and two will be eliminated from the PGL. For a complete overview of the format, please go to this threadIn the battle between the groups, each group will send out a player. After this first match, the winner plays another member of the opposing team, and, if he keeps winning, another and another until all players on the opposing team have been eliminated. As far as I know, the games start at 17:00 KST. But I am absolutely not sure of that and would love for someone to find an official source of some kind. Right now my only source is GosuGamers.

Interesting how the groups' racial balance turned out. None of them has all of the races represented and all but one have 3 of the same race..

That map has always been a problem for translators. We called it Sword in the Moon at one point. Harmony is a really, really lose translation.

I found an SC stream on PPlive but it's basically showing the same thing as the vlc stream except with starcraft instead of warcraft

The easiest way is to use the links provided by Corinthos and playing them on VLC or any other media player, just remember mmsh -> mms if you're using another media player than VLC.

Well, I can only speak for Sweden and here I can see some progress. We got the world biggest lan (DH) and we are among the best in the world in CS, but things are not going fast.

Ah I remember watching a few years old Swedish documentary about the big CS scene there and it showed a few lan events and even a team with a real practice house and all seemed very professional. Sadly thought I read from the comments that the team had died a few months later. :l

Well I think the main reason is that e-sports (especially live) would not be suitable for most networks. While you see OGN or MBC air like hour long games with no commercials, that would just not fly on US TV (referring to going great lengths of time without any commercials).

Isn't there any TV station owned by the people? In Sweden we got two channels that everyone who has a TV pays a little for. These are totaly free from commercial and political interferences. It's really great. Same goes for radio channels.

well there are lots of reasons. bad management/ aiming too high too fast means there is sort of a bad track record for comercialised e-sports. Then you have a pretty strong resistance against esports in the older generation. On top of this, there are very few games that most gamers will like to watch/support (I can really only think of cs 1.6), and if its not one of those games, viewers will be apathetic.
so the only way to get it on tv is to either dumb it down and try and fit it into a 30 minute timeslot, or put it on a specialty tv channel (that few will subscribe too - since a lot of viewers right now are young and not in charge of their own finances, and so requesting a e-sports channel might not be met well)

Okay, Fengzi seems to be trying to push into Vulture's main with a bunch of lurkers on the high ground and hydras on the low ground. Vulture takes out a sunken in Fengzi's third with 4 zealots, but it looks like some hydra will shut that down. Vulture has to slow down for a bit because I don't think he has any obs due to Fengzi sniping a few of them.

Some more ob sniping, Fengzi runs a bunch of lurkers clumped together in, then all get stormed but two live so Vulture is staying put. Vulture pushing into his 2nd natural's high ground. He finally clears it. But Fengzi has a ton of hydras attacking. They get destroyed by a storm or two, a reaver, and some goons on the high ground. This is probably gg soon.

Fengzi gets into the backdoor of Vulture's second natural, he takes out a pylon and a ton of zealots with his lurker/hydra. More hydras are streaming in, and it looks pretty grim for Vulture because his templar have no mana. Vulture ggs.

I think Fengzi managed to mount a comeback because he stuck to 3 base for so long, even after he lost so many drones. He knew as long as he kept Vulture to 2 bases, he was still in it. But he seemed to gain way more ground than he should have when it felt like he should have been losing. It probably helped Vulture threw away most of his corsairs.

LBH has a ton of lings. He's snuck two into Fengzi's main, and is harassing his expo hatch. He probably has twice as many lings. He's running up Fengzi's ramp, well... or not. He takes out most of Fengzi's lings, then goes back to killing the hatch. It looks like LBH picked off a few drones too. Hatch is almost dead, but Fengzi has lair. Fengzi running like 6 lings to try to kill some of LBH's drones. Hatch lives for now.

Nbs has templar in position though and Fengzi's hydra are acting stupid on the ramp. Nbs gets back to destroying Fengzi's temples. Lots of cannons warping for Nbs to protect his mineral only. Nbs gets rejected from killing the last few temples, storm and cannons force Fengzi back from Nbs's mineral only.

Nbs with a ton of dragoons and some templar, so his main should be safe. He gets a storm off and kills like 8 hydra... hydras still pressuring, another storm. Fengzi still doesn't back off. He gains some ground for his lurkers (he sniped an obs), but Nbs still has a lot of dragoons. More hydras, another storm, and another. Not many hydra died though. Fengzi is in range of one of Nbs's gateways, and it goes down. Fengzi sending about a dozen hydra into Nbs's mineral only, which has no templares guarding it (but there are a ton of cannons). He picks off a forge there. Meanwhile, he gets pushed out of Nbs's main now that Nbs has an observer again.

Nbs taking a secret expo at 3 o'clock. Big fight at the Nbs's front natural, lots of lurkers burrow and he sniped the only obs. So Nbs retreats, big battle in his base, Fengzi gets repelled for the time being. If Fengzi doesn't discover the secret expo, he might be in trouble. Nbs retakes his natural, and Fengzi probes his defenses with some hydra before backing off. A lone dt discovers Fengzi's new expo at 9 o'clock. Nbs pushing out, a single storm takes out a ton of hydra... seems he just wanted to cut down Fengzi's force and not push out. A lot of hydra were bumping around Fengzi's high ground (rejected by temples?!?!).
Nbs yawns and blows on his hands and doesn't look too impressed.

When SC2.org was the main source for live stream I remember talking about other streams in LR threads was unallowed because they would spoil for those watching the SC2 tvants one.
And tbh. I still would prefer that rule to be there because the LR thread is a big part of enjoying the games for many people even if you are watching the stream at the same time.

I think Nony was ahead after he took out the northern base... if he had just recalled on the newly built expo he flew over instead of the main, he would have been on even bases, and he might have even been able to take out that mineral only if he did 2 recalls with relatively few losses. Or maybe just storm dropped it.
Oh, and before that he pretty much broke the contain but didn't finish it off completely and knock out the mineral only. Yeah, he was worried about his new expo, but priorities!

If NonYs group wins, then it doesn't matter if NonY lost now. And if his group loses they will go up against the A group.
The opening format is just as MST. Instead of four players there are four teams: A, B, C, D. First of C vs D and A vs B. The two winning teams will then go up against each other and the losing teams the same. Then the winning of the losing team and the loser of the winning team will battle it out. Just like MST.

As others mentioned, once Nony failed to do anything with the reaver, it was going to be an uphill battle.
Still, Nony did have an opportunity to secure a better position.
The recall to Super's main was a bad decision; he should have bolstered his army/economy a bit and then completely break the central contain.
Also, recalling into a terran's main usually seems dubious to me.
Chances are that there will be mines and tanks nearby or just coming out factories which can easily thwart such an attack.
Upgrades, get them!
Nony dealt with harassment pretty poorly, especially at bottom right.
It looks like he still has trouble with unit management and determining the correct time/place to attack.
After breaking out of the initial push/contain by Super, Nony could have opted for a longer game. He had a loose control of the map and could have given himself more time for his economy to catch up.
Don't mean it to sound like a put down, just what I saw/thought. Always easier to critique from the sidelines.

Since Terran always expand there first when he does the mid game push toward P main, there was no way Nony didn't know about it. Yes, he might have had a 'chance' to attack it while Super was busy defending recall/other expos... but Nony couldn't have done much more than he did with his army. If he would have tried to attack that high ground expo (which I don't think would have succeeded), Supers other expansions would have went up, I believe Nony just wanted to keep him on 3 bases against his 4.
