EDIT: A korean friend just informed me that there's a slight mistake here the prizes are as follows: 1st 40,000,000 KRW 2nd 20,000,000 KRW
The 108,000,000 KRW figure is the total prize pool. Oh well. -FrozenArbiter
First of all, the sponsor will be Batoo (바투), some Korean online game. Secondly, all players which enter the OSL will earn some sort of official prize money now (next to match appearance earnings). These range from 100,000 KRW for being in the Round of 36 to 12,000,000 KRW for making the Quarter-finals.
As like past seasons, the top four from last season (Incruit) will be seeded into the Round 2/the OSL, they include Stork, Fantasy, Best and GGPlay. Eliminated players from Round 1/ODT last season will be as usual seeded into Round 1 of this season. They include; P: Rock, Bisu, BackHo, Much T: Flash, Midas, Mind, Light, Sea Z: July, Luxury, TheZerg.
The season will first kick off with the OSC (also known as the offliners) on the 12th of December. Broadcasting starts at 14:00 KST.

First Bisu should be replaced with Best.
|
jon, its cuz bisu is so awesome that he needs 2 entries
|
|
how much does that 1st place prize translate into terms of USD?
|
|
Normally about $100k
(w/current exchange rates more like $75k)
|
a billion gazillion dollars.
more seriously though, i think around 100k..? i dont know though i have only been to korea for a little while edit: a bit less than 100k in terms of USD i think.

108000000 won is even higher than the proleagues last year (i think they were 100000000 won)
|
DAYUM THAT'S A HUGE PRIZE
I'm excited for this. MVP is obviously oing to wreck the offline preliminaries.
|
|
This is bisu's OSL !
Any info about if ACE players can play the qualifiers this time? Its about time Reach makes another nice osl run, like in daum 2007.

What the hell @ the first place prize money. Also wth@the quarter finals prize money.
Both are of course awesome developments (assuming they are sustainable), but still wow.

For comparison, what were past prize money for incruit and bachus, etc?
|
anyone know the amount they get just for showing up at game.

Savior lost to Pusan in the last offlines, so he has to go through those.

they probably felt like they needed to match up to the GOM Classic in terms of prize money lol

The prize money is SOOOOOOOO much!
This should motivate more players to do better. And the fact that you can earn money at even the quarterfinals is awesome for progamers.
I'm assuming that Batoo is a very rich sponsor?
|
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ indeed!
|
Hmm, according to current googling, "1 South Korean won = 0.000678 U.S. dollars" "1 U.S. dollar = 1 474.92625 South Korean won"
Still a lot
$73 224 First prize

In terms of corporate expenditures 200-300k that they're putting up as prize money is so little. I'm surprised this hasn't happened earlier. It's the cost of one mid-level manager for a year, and the benefits are arguably much greater.

Batoo appears to be some hip-ish Go client, eh? Well, that's interesting. When the OP said some online Korean game I assumed an mmo!

Wait, so the offline prelims haven't even started and we know the sponsor, while the MSL is already in the survival stage and we're still clueless?

Batoo reminds me of Batou from GITS:SAC - if anyone knwos what I'm talking about. p2501!!!!!

Batoo (the sound of it when you say it) sounds like Bounto from Bleach.
AM I FUCKING NUTS OR WHAT!?

Is the Korean economy doing poorly or something? Cause I just saw that 1$USD is now apx equal to 1466 won. (And 1000 won is equal to 68 cents.
But still... regardless. Those prizes are sick. Esp for the Quarter Finalists.

KTF says their investment into the MagicNs has supposedly gotten something like 1000% returns though I think that's full of shit [I mean how would they measure that anyway?]
They've invested a huge amount into that team though. -_-; like 5bn KRW as of 2005/6?

108,000,000 is the total prize money.
Oh well, still decent money

I think that's FANTASTIC that all players who qualify will win prize money based upon their performance level in the tournament. I've always thought it'd be best to spread winnings a little thinner, simply because it makes the profession a lot more appealing, because they don't have to make it to the top (or very near it) in order to get a reward.
