Imo Idra stands a chance against July IF AND ONLY IF he plays his best. July is known for his not-so-good ZvT (though I admit it is better than average).

PS- July is liked the most jynxed player when it comes to osl, how do you get to an osl finals 5 times but the farthest youve been in the msl is the ro8
I think GoRush is just pissed about all the stuff people have said about SKT Zergs, he just blew through the prelims without a loss. Who needs Thezerg?

Big difference between going through prelims and being a consistent, strong player online.

Idra went for a really classic build, teching early while sacrificing an early natural expansion. July used lurk/ling really effectively (hydra den before spire; he did make mutas but did almost nothing on the account of Idra's fast vessels) to block early MnM aggression, putting him in a very advantageous position mid-game. It was pretty much 1a2a3a4u GG from there.
Btw, Best just got totally raped by that no-name Woongjin protoss.

the Survivor Tournament is going to be so full of win it's ridiculous. I'm not sure there's been a player that's advanced so far that I'm not happy with.

Nah, i like it so far... To have a real cool and balanced bracket in the next step of the tournament we need masses of Zerg and some Terrans to advance and basically very low Protoss... I mean nearly all the good Protossplayers are allready qualified anyway ^^.

LOL I actually forgot about this but last MSL was the one where 17 of the 32 qualifiers were terran.
Qualified for MSL: 5P, 2T, 1Z Qualified for MST: 5P, 15T, 4Z Offline Qualifiers, Groups 1-8: 1P, 3T, 4Z Groups 9-16: 1P, 1T, 6Z Total for MST: 7P, 19T, 14Z Total Qualified: 12P, 21T, 15Z Projected MSL, figuring half of each race from MST qualifies: 8.5P, 11.5T, 8Z

Holy crap o_o The Zerg are dominating this MSL. Might be something to do with the fact that all the good protoss and terran are already qualified, but there's still many not-so-well-known Zergs making it through. That's awesome to see!
other than like best or mind and maybe like pure, pretty much all of the clear favorites are winning, so it's partially probably just because more good zerg were in the offline than terran/protoss who already qualified. all of the marginal groups seem to be coming up zerg, though

Well apart from BeSt I think they did quite fine. Midas and Gorush were definitely not favoured considering their current shape, and rookies such as punsoo/Saldaga never win more than one bo3 in these prelims anyway--let's be honest here, they must be quite bad.
Hyuk is also a pretty good surprise. I'm sure this guy has a little bit more potential than his record indicates.
Unrelated, but I'm quite impressed by skyHigh. The guy is like totally invincible in these prelims lol. He'll probably go a bit further this season.

Terrible person imo, should switch to pokemon.
You have to think like, Best lost to him although he lost to YoonJoong =P That makes Best bad, it's not his fault if Best can't beat him even if he loses to players like Shuttle.
traced, I saw the medusa game, although with huge lag. The last thing I saw was reaver and goons pounding at best's gateways and a robo.. I think =P But it wasnt any kind of 2gate rush.
I guess this really shows that the maps aren't exactly all anti-zerg. Destination and Coliseum2 are both considered ridiculously anti-zerg, yet they're doing well. And T1's upside down. I mean, Hyuk advancing and Best eliminated!?

the MBC game commentators were really generous to Idra (almost too generous, even when idra was being raped in a OTL position they kept saying he was a good player)
Although, they did make a comment of how Foreign people had better sense of Macro management rather than Micro management.
edit: Hopefully we'll see alot of zerg players so we dont have zerg players making millions of threads of how bad zerg players have it etc etc
Nice for Zerg... But it does not say to much. I mean.. just search for the *big* or *good known* players in this prelims...
Just compare the names... I picked the ones I know *kinda good* (I'm sure i missed some important ones that i actually know... but well, i'm at work :p):
Zerg: Luxury, July, GGPlay, GoRush (yay), Calm, TheZerg, Effort, Nal_keke - Aside from Keke all of them are *known* for doing good recently.
Terran: Mind, Light, Midas, Sea - Yeah, that’s about it, did any of these do really good recently?
Toss: Best (ahahahaha :p), Rock, Chalrenge, InToTheRainbow, Tester, Pusan, TT, BestGod - I see... 1 S/A class player in here (Best) and the rest... Well... Theyre not even A?
Actually if you look at that... The Zergs HAD to win many groups, everything else would have been an upset...
If you look at the already set players from last MSL:
Zerg got 2 possible powerhouses and one good player (Savior, Jaedong, Yarnc).
Terran got any player that you ever heard of (Nada, Fantasy, Firebathero, Flash, fOrGG, FrOzean, Hwasin, Iris, Leta, Lomo, NaDa, Sea). This are just the guys you HAVE to know because they are able to do awesome.... Yes, some of them slump right now but well...
Toss got everything... BackHo, Bisu*, free*, JangBi*, Kal*, Much, Stork*... I mean is there even a single A/S-Class Toss not in this aside from Best?

first game on destination i did a one base build, lifted fac outside my base and made 2 vultures, he was ready for them they didnt really do anything. went fast vessel and he went 2 hatch muta, had irad by the time his mutas were there and fended them off without taking any damage, most of his mutas were hurt badly or killed by 2 irads. went to attack his 3rd base with mm/vessel, he had lurkers out. attacked and killed 2 or 3 and had to pull back with lings coming in, first tanks out and moved to push again. did ok and had a nice marine spread but he had too much shit. he got his 3rd hatch faster than my practice partners did, sacrificed muta timing for it. allowed him to have enough lurker ling to break me.
on medusa i 14 cc'd and he opened 2 hatch lurker, killed temples. i saw it coming and made 2 (or 3? i forget) bunkers behind my main + 2 in front, expecting a lurker ling allin. he just contained with 3 lurkers and went 2 hatch muta which i didnt scout. killed a decent number of scv marine and by the time i stabilized and had a vessel he had guardians out. i think it was an allin, 2 base the whole time, but i wasnt able to scout every expo so he may have hidden one.

These tournaments are so unforgiving. One bad hour and you're screwed. Even if you are a great player, it's so hard to go through such a prelim. So biased towards established players.
It's awesome how Starcraft changes every season. A couple of seasons ago leagues consisted of 12 terrans, 2 zergs and 2 protoss. Now 4 out of the top 5 in the power rank are protoss and 14 zergs advance to the Survivor tournament.
Ouch. Do Jae Wook, you are expected to slay all offline P's with ease -_-;; Ease Ps... nOoooooooo WTF mang. First time I frown at do jae wook = ( THE FROWN =( <------ omg.....
We have 20 terrans, 10 toss and 18 zerg in survivor, right? If we hope that each race get half their players through in survivor, we have 10+2 terrans, 5+5 protoss and 9+1 zerg in the "actual" msl. That is a pretty decent balance.
Wow. There's going to be a lot of TvZs in MSL survivor. Although my least favorite non-mirror matchup, it's still nice to finally get to see some non-PvP/PvTs.
Hopefully some of the zergs make it into the higher rounds and not just keep getting owned by top tosses and terrans.
Group 1 - BeSt? Lol? Good for YoonJoong. Group 3 - Sorry for Idra, but SumoZerg is still SumoZerg. Group 4 - Damn, good for sKyHigh. Iris needs some backup at CJ. Group 7 - Oh yeah bitches! Old school FTW! GoRush 6-0! Group 15 - Lol? Hyuk? Over Hiya? And most importantly, he won not 1, but 2 ZvZ's! Group 17 - Watch out for this guy Modesty. Group 18 - TheZerg is already performing as expected in any T1 zerg. Group 24 - Fuck, Pusan, why?

Of course there are. You don't surely think there is a huge difference in skill level between S class and progamers do you? The ones who handle the pressure the best often win these proleagues. As everyone keeps saying it is more about mind games than anything else.

i don't think it's people play better, it's just that some people can't play their best when there's pressure. because you get caught up in the moment, think about things you shouldn't, which takes away brain power from things you could be thinking about in game

well every group has a seed, although some arent as good as others, so anyone has to take down one of the high ranked players (assuming they arent one themselves) to pass. its just a matter of how quick you meet them.

Personally I think the change is pretty glacial. It's pretty rare where one of them just qualifies out of nowhere... and usually they get your attention if they do. I mean, out of those who actually qualified, the only one that I don't really know is Horang, and I remember his name for something from last season's qualifiers. Players like Skyhigh and By.Baby qualified last season, and they've had enough exposure so most people know who they are now.
Upsets happen all the time, but that's just the nature of it. Also, Shinhwa isn't exactly an unknown... he played 2v2s on Lecaf a ton the past few seasons.

i was actually thinking the opposite, there seem to be a lot more known guys qualifying this time, at least more than usual
Yeah, really the only players that advanced that are for the most part unknown were Horang2 and Modesty. Even these guys aren't 100% unheard of - Modesty is like the second youngest progamer behind BaBy, and Horang has made appearances in amateur games that have been televised.
If people don't follow PL or the Classic closely then some other players may be less recognizable though. Like RorO, if you havent' watched PL this season then you'd have no idea who he is. If you have, then he's very recognizable by now as he's playing in just about all of WeMade's matches nowadays.
