Predictions:
Jaedong > go.go: Jaedong hasn't played for over a month. His last ZvT match was in july in the MSL finals. But now it's rape time.
Up > Frozean : Both have mediocre TvT stats but Up's has a bitchin' tank/wraith style which I hope he uses to crush Frozean in an exciting game. Up won his survivor group 2-0 and has the momentum advantage over Froz coming into the fight.
Winners: Up's TvZ is bad all around. However his TvZ in survivor was shockingly good. A graceful and stylish execution of Hyuk and a solid, straight up stomping of the Malter. If his TvZ is going to be as good as what he showed in survivor, JD is in trouble. However it was only 2 games so I have to go with the favourite here.
Losers: This game is going to beat any lullaby. Seriously though, both players are somewhat mediocre in the matchup and have had similar results lately. I'm going to give the advantage to Frozean just because he had 2 recent victories where as gogo's last 2 games were all the way back in SPL both of which he lost.
Final: Thinking and definitely hoping style and strategy will prevail here again.

Anyhow, no Terran in the world can beat jaedong right now, Medusa isnt too bad, Jaedong will take this 2-0 and if Upmagic's TvT is just as good as it was 2 seasons ago hell get out of this group easy too, but you gotta be aware of Cuteangel, this guy likes to pull of upsets. Remember PL Finals Samsung vs Lecaf? Anyhow.

the win/lose ratio for upmagic and frozean dont tell the entire story, if you check out their past 10 games played, Frozean has won 8 of em while upmagic only won 2. Frozean may have been somewhat shitty in the past, but he has definitely gotten alot better lately.
Jaedong will have no problem i suppose.

I would say JD is a definately winner in this group but I'm not sure because of the very Terran orientated maps this season..Medusa's main cliff makes bunker rush so effective

actually go.go has a descent shot on Medusa, the map looks nice for TvZ, I dont see how JD will drop a game Athena, the map is well known. But to advance I think he should pass thru UpMagic and thats gonna be difficult

I never thought I'd see the day when people would say Frozean looks more solid than anybody.
Jaedong should be able to take this group relatively easily. I voted for Up to advance because I can see him pulling something crazy, though Frozean is prone to proxy/rush builds (not nearly as cool but it gets the job done sometimes) and go.go is pretty solid TvT last I looked (though I could be wrong!).

go.go got rick roll'd in his last 2 TvTs but by the very experts in this MU (canata and FBH). Having in mind how cocky this guy is I doubt his confidence is hurt, but as far as I remember he managed to beat Flash, when the Ultimate Weapon was still imba. Anyway I dislike him very much so he better be back to the survivor series

Apologies if this has been discussed, but why in the world doesn't MSL have a stat display showing resource count a la OSL? Even the GOM Avertec feeds have a resource/unit count display (even if it's only shown intermittently).
The MSL seems to be the only major StarLeague with a big waste of space in the lower corner, I realize it's not the end of the world but it's darn nice to have...what gives?

1. Up @ 5
Frozean @ 11
2. Up cheesed right below Frozean below the cliff and makes several marines forcing Frozean to pull several SCVs.
3. Frozean decides to go fact during this whole ordeal and then directly to starport
4. Up leaves without doing any damage nor taking any, floats his rax over Frozean's base and sees starport when it's ~1/2 done and plants down an armory in preparation for wraiths
5. Wraiths do minimal damage, Up gets a bigger army than Frozean with 2 fact while Frozean's still at 1 fact
6. Up expos, shortly after Frozean follows suit
7. Both attack each others' base (going in different paths so they don't meet). Frozean plants three tanks behind Up's expo while lifting his own expo off. Up is unable to push up Frozean's ramp while trouble brews behind his base
8. Up fights off Frozean's small army

First sentence is opinion, and I have live reported. I cannot at this current time. Frozean with three expos and one going up
Up with two expos, one going up, and natural nullified due to tanks behind the ridge
UpMagiC GGs as Frozean sends a bunch of SCVs over to his choke soak up hits

Up opened with an early proxy rax near Frozean's main. Frozean went supply-gas-rax. As Up scouts Frozean's build after his rax completes, he is very cautions with his marines, and the subsequent minutes are a microfest with frozean with his fewer marines and some scvs microing against up's superior marine count.
while this happens both are continuing to tech normally - up getting a healthy number of scvs and starting his factory slightly later than frozean.
frozean gets a vulture out of his factory which kills a few retreating marines before dying.
frozean goes 1 fac port which is scouted with up's floating rax. up goes with 2 fac + armory.
both then take their expansions almost simultaneously.
up moves out with a couple tanks and goliaths while frozean moves out with a couple wraiths, a few tanks and marines.
both of them succeed in stopping mining at each other's expos.
up clears out his nat and the area behind quicker than frozean does his nat.
frozean with his superior tank count clears out his nat and then counters at up's natural which is weakly defended. up staves off the attack but at the cost of a large amount of scvs. more skirmishes ensue at up's nat with frozean taking out up's nat gas and disrupting mining several times.
in this time frozean has gone up to 4 or 5 bases, while up's third was scouted.
now frozean has an even more obvious tank advantage, as he's not producing goliaths at all. all 6 of his factories have addons.
up is not mining anymore at his natural, and attempts to push forward with his tanks, goliaths and dropship. frozean loses a substantial number of tanks but nothing too debilitating.
frozean has a commanding lead right now, with his pure tank owning everything Up can throw at him.

I don't think those were meant to be live reports, xenero, just discussion. It would be hard to live report this match, too much happening. Destination seems to be a really good map for micro over macro.

but basically - frozean kept denying Up his nat expo by cliffing his gas or sieging his tanks behind the ridge near the minerals, as well as any other expos and eventually ran over Up.

Frozean 8 raxes just below his ramp, following with his supply in main, while Jaedong starts with 12 hatch, then gas, then spawning pool as in the previous game.
Frozean bunkers Jaedong's nat, which he cancels. Jaedong also loses a couple drones to Frozean's marines. Jaedong again does 1 hatch lair. Jaedong has about a control group of lings, and Frozean has floated his rax back into his base. Jaedong with lings killing the bunker which had only one marine inside, with the rest back at frozean's base.
Frozean scans and sees the fast mutas. Frozean moving out with marines and 1 medic, and 1 firebat.
Jaedong does burrow lings and almost completely kills off frozean's initial mm army when he walks it over the burrowed lings, but he loses all his lings in the process.
Jaedong with 3 mutas, and Frozean with enough mm in his main. Jaedong has rebuilt his nat hatch, and starts a creep colony. Jaedong frantically micros his mutas around Frozean's mm with are running around outside in between their bases.
Jaedong gets up two sunkens at his nat, so he's relatively safe. However, frozean is quickly teching to science vessel. Jaedong with mutas grouped with his scourge, but can't pick off the science vessel. Jaedong with 3 hatch hive. Jaedong finally kills one science vessel.
Jaedong has 5 sunkens and 3 lurkers at his nat, so he's safe from the mm for now.
Jaedong getting a defiler mound now, he has several lurks at his nat. Frozean is preparing a dropship near his main. Jaedong gets the top expansion very near Frozean.
Jaedong dark swarms his nat, but not before frozean drops mm into his main. Jaedong ggs.

God dammit. The stream went out for me for like 2 minutes, and then I finally heard the "winning music", so I imagine Frozean successfully broke through and took the natural.
Edit: Actually, I'm quite happy because I usually root against Jaedong, but it kind of sucks I missed the most important moment in the game.

JD managed to stay in the game with that glorious surprise burrowing, but the two things that make him so good were ineffective because Frozean used his medic-marine so well against his mutalisk harass and his scourge micro.

Nah, I think Saracen's analysis is the most correct out of all of us so far. That bunker (I think) was out of range of the hatchery but maybe the minerals and and things make it really hard to drone defend a bunker rush or something. But Jaedong canceling out of the nat hatch was a pretty bad mistake and he had to end it right after he burrow rushed Frozean because he was way to far behind. If Frozean hadn't build that one firebat, JD would have won.
And Jaedong fought hard but 1 base zerg just isn't that great compared to 1 base terran. And it didn't help that he invest into to tech that ultimately did not do much damage. And took his nat at the same time Frozean was trying to push Jaedong's nat. It's really a miracle that Jaedong was able to hold off Frozean's entire army with just the threat of muta for that long. Long enough to get not 1, not 2, but 4 sunks up. And lurkers.

I think that proxy raxes are really underrated. You're going to float them anyways and the threat of a proxy scv rush is probably worth it in and of itself anyways. It's not like Zerg or Protoss where the first building is a considerable investment; Terran it's just 50 minerals lost mining time (or even less) build your first rax somewhere interesting that's a threat just by the virtue of placement

gogo made a firebat with his rax in up's main, but 2 scvs took it out. A marine pops out now, but it is also killed by scvs. Up sieging outside of gogo's nat. Yet another firebat pops out and is killed by an scv. gogo and up now with 2 factories each.
Up is harassing with his two wraiths. And another firebat pops out again and kills a couple of scvs before dying to wraiths. gogo's rax finally dies.
gogo increasing his factory count to 4. Up is still on 2 factories. there is a long tank line just outside of gogo's nat.

That being said, I am of the opinion that it is in fact a pro's job to win the game, by whatever means he deems the best, fastest and surest. Sometimes that way is cheese, sometimes not.

yeah people can define it differently but there's a general definition of cheese and that is:
1. if it fails, the player is not just behind, but basically loses
2. if the opponent scouts it, it is very easy to stop

you certainly can't make the distinction between cheese and not cheese circumstantial factors in the game, like if up scouted JD first = not cheese and scouted last = cheese.

1. Byzantium 2 cannot be traditionally walled so JD knows this and thus 9p speed is a bit stronger than on maps that can be 2sup+rax walled
2. JD made 4 more lings (while his first six were en-route) before deciding to attack so i don't see how you can say he "decided to go allin after seeing an incomplete wall" because the extra lings were already being built
3. JD likely went 9p speed as a semi-defensive move to counter a bunker rush

when Boxer bunker rushes, people call it brilliant play, even if he does it 3 times in a row in an OSL final, when Flash did it vs Bisu last year, they called him an asshole, when he does that again the other day, while he has proved himself as a monster, some people call it brilliant while still others (bisu fans of course) curse him for that. But when a "nobody" like Frozean does it to Jaedong, he's a fucking noob... And what about the Bisu/Luxury game on Troy? Even if I was cheering for Bisu, i'd call it a clever build, especially on a map so hard for Z players.
Imho, cheesing is an important aspect of the game (and it's fun to watch), and that not only the top 10 pros have the right to use. Or maybe we should introduce a "5min no rush except if you're boxer" rule? That would be awesome! ;-)

another thing about almost all cheese is that you're pretty much playing for a coin flip, the outcome is pretty much determined by luck and whether or not your opponent is familiar with that cheese

What was Upmagic thinking in the last game? With the recent zerg trend of going 2 hatch or pool hatch, you would think he wouldn't be so greedy. Not to mention, the map has changed where it is harder to choke off at the expo. For someone known as a strategist, he certaintly didn't show it.
I wanted both Upmagic and Jaedong to make it out of their group.

I hate Samsung Khan because they're a team of snipers and 1 match or 2 matchup flakes that spend their whole entire lives in mediocrity. I think the most badass player on the whole entire team is [oops]January, and she doesn't even play. They have no-all stars, nobody that defines their team the way Pusan and July, Reach and Yellow, Boxer and Oov once did for their teams. All they have is FBH who loses more often than he dances and Stork who's got more second places than Yellow and half the innovation.
But I hate Frozean too. Frozean drew that match out for so long because he was scared and was held back by the threat of 5 mutas. For like 10 minutes. He's like Rock; he enjoys taking spots from legitmate spots from rookies or oldies who have more stylistic flair and are more entertaining to watch. Frozean is going to rolled over in the MSL.
Frozean is very good (and historically has been) good against defending muta micro against Jaedong. Unless he's playing against lux, in which case he should have fallen so far behind that Lux wouldn't go muta against his pathetic play. Frozean ended Jaedong's ZvT streak. Ironically, go.go also stopped Flash's win streak.
In conclusion, don't judge me. If you're going to pick on fanboys, at least make it a blanket statement instead of calling out one of them.

You're a dumbass. 9 pool is not cheese. Since when is building your first unit building cheese? Terran makes barrack, Protoss makes Gateway. So everytime Terran or Protoss doesn't do double CC or double nexus, I guess they're cheesing. The only reason why those Terrans bunker rush Jaedong is because they know they can't beat him in a straight up game

I dunno, maybe something of similar content, I would like think that I have consistent views on semi-controversial issues. In fact, I'm pretty sure that I've voiced all of these opinions before on Tl.net but I voiced them again here so he wouldn't call me a Jaedong fanboy. I don't think I've ever been called out on my fanboyism (for Jaedong, specifically) before, so that part can't be deja vu.
I don't really like typing up the same thought multiple times (I can understand completely why Chill hates typing up, "read the strat forum guidelines") but because a lot of the threads on special games are similar I sometimes write the same thing multiple times on accident.

I don't like Frozean. He's just boring for me, but the rest of Samsung KHAN is pretty solid. Samsung has stars whether you want to admit it or not. They have Jangbi, Stork, and FBH. Stork is one of their best, if not their best, player on the team. Stork does a wide variety of strats and he is very good in all his matchups. He is far from a Yellow. Stork has been around for a while and he is still up there with the best.

It's fine if you don't like Samsung's team. I don't care about the reasoning. You could just say "I hate them cuz they're all fags" and I won't question that. But most players are "1 or 2 matchup flakes." You then turn around and name Pusan, Reach and Boxer, who are "1 or 2 matchup flakes."
And if Stork is a player stuck in mediocrity, I guess 99.5% of pro gamers are mediocre and you should hate them all (Pusan included)

I believe the difference lies in that while those old school players at least provided some innovation in even their worst matchups, you can't say the same for Samsung's players. The flashiest player they have, as far as cool moves in-game, is Jangbi, and his consistency leaves a lot to be desired.
I mean really, at least Yellow was always interesting to watch - win or loss. I'd watch 10 TvTs before even one of Storks PvZs.

there are few people who hate FBH more than me....but he uses lockdown and nukes, especially in tvt
that has to count for something as far as flash or creativity

You should really chill out, i havent seen so much hate towards a team and a player for a long time, its a matter of opinion and for me Samsung has enough players to be solid and a monster team, hell even watching FBH is fun just to see what he will do if he loses or wins. You voiced your opinion and we got the picture, but that much hate is way over the line.
