A BLOODBATH OF RIVALRY
It was only a week ago that the groups for this MSL, sponsored by Arena, were decided in a nerve-racking draft. Would Savior be playing against Firebathero, would he be playing against Hwasin, would he be playing Nada? The second to last player to switch, Kal, moved FBH against himself. The last to pick and the first to play in this MSL switched him back: Ladies and Gentlemen, presenting the current MSL champion, Jaedong.
However, there was one change a lot earlier in the ceremony. Grandpa Protoss Much had chosen to be matched up against the Legend Killer Jaedong, but the Revolutionist Bisu himself chose to take his place. In this MSL, we therefore have a rematch: Bisu meets Jaedong in one of the pre-groups AGAIN, and AGAIN only one of them is going to leave the arena alive. Whoever watched their first encounter will know what a tense game it was.
But Bisu vs. Jaedong is not the only rivalry we are about to witness here. This whole group is a barrel of gunpowder, and it can go off any second!
Frozean is the Terran that always wins at the wrong time. Take his recent game in the OSL against Anytime. Anytime was a sure winner in most books, being terrific vs. T and showing relatively consistent play lately. Frozean surprised him with a bionic build and forced him to fight for survival in the loser's match against Mind. As we all know, Anytime did not make it out alive. Frozean vs. Lecaf is surely a special history. Dubbed "sacrifical lamb", or "50%", Frozean had the starting match against Jaedong in the recent Proleague Grand Final. While everyone was scratching their heads, saying "he won't go for breaking those four sunkens, nobody does that", that was exactly what Frozean did. He broke the sunkens, he broke the natural expansion, maybe he even broke Jaedong's invincible feeling. Since that game, JD is 7-7 against Terran and on a 0-3 streak, admittedly with strong opponents, but real dominance does not know strong opponents.
Hwasin was the upcoming Terran of 2007. He continually improved his game, but in the end he always stood against a foe he could not defeat: Bisu. His sets against Bisu were legendary, I specifically remember the third set in the GOM3 series, when Hwasin just stomped over Bisu's forces, took down an expansion - only to meet a newly produced army, perfectly balanced to counter his force, taking him out and dropping him out of the competition. Being picked earlier by Bisu for his Daum OSL group, being called "insurance", and losing painfully to Scouts only puts more explosives between these two.
Recently, Hwasin also made life miserable for Jaedong, beating him in a proleague match which was the second step in a 3-0 takedown of the current champions Lecaf by the underdogs STX.
If there is a single group in this MSL, loaded with recent progaming history up to the brim, this is it. I can't wait to watch.

Wow, very nice writeup. I am hoping very much for a Bisu vs. Hwasin match, in either one of the sets, that rivalry was really fiery last year.

Hopefully, it will go this way:
Bisu and Hwasin advance; Bisu starts to show that he can still compete after his switch to SKT1, and Hwasin shows that there's more to him then just potential.
Jaedong drops out, but destroys the Proleague, leaving hope that he's still dominant.

he's usually the one who other progamers "pick on" (ie bisu calling him insurance, random no-namers saying that he's the easiest opponent they could be paired up with, etc)

Sigh... well, here's something to think about, at least:
Jaedong is out of the OSL, and so has even more serious drive to defend his MSL victory. He might not have looked much like his unstoppable self lately, but keep in mind that he'll be practicing extremely hard for this group. Also note that he wasn't in the lineup for Lecaf's last match, giving him the time he needs to focus.
Personally, I see Jaedong winning both his games, and Hwasin eventually beating Bisu to come out of the group as well.

I'm hoping Hwasin beats Bisu in the winners' game, then Bisu beats Jaedong a second time in the final game to qualify. That way, Hwasin gets to 2-0 the group, while Bisu and Jaedong get to go at it twice. :3

I think JD cant survive to this group. He showed recently some crappy games.
Bisu and Hwasin are AntiZergs specialists, even on recent games, especially Hwasin.
Frozean is not so bad. I thin he can take 1 or maybe 2 games, and then eliminate one of the others. But i dont think he can advance.
Bisu, JD and Hwasin really want this title. Frozean is always here, on both leagues, he's reaching for a result.It should be very intense.

Guys use the DAUM player instead of Gom. It runs MSL as well. Just click the righers tab in the top right corner and scroll down the channel list untill you see MBC.

So I'm not sure exactly how, but I seem to have freaked my computer into streaming the match on the English version of the Gom Player. I was having problems with the Korean version (it was streaming perfectly, but I couldn't get any sound--I couldn't get any sound from anything actually) and as I was trying to mess with it, I think I made it unresponsive or some such. At any rate, I clicked on the link from the GomTV site and it popped up in my English version--I was using to compare menus to try and fix the sound problems I was having. Crazy stuff, but I'm pretty psyched because it looks to be in total working order.

I doubt that any of the delay has to do with Arena. It is still MBC broadcasting and holding this starleague and Arena is just the sponsor.

Bisu builds a pylon at his nat and proceeds to scout 5 with the probe. Jaedong is scouting 10 with the 1st ovie.
Jaedong 12 hatch FEing, 11 pooling. Now a drone scout woward 7. Bisu going forge first. Then puts down the nexus. He has a nice semiwall going with the forge pylon and neutral generator.

Bisu adding a gas at his main. Jaedong is putting the 3'rd hatch at the center expo at 1. Jaedong destroys Bisu's neutral generator with 5 lings and retreats a bit as the zealot prevents them from advancing through the small choke.

Of course he didn't misplace his pylon. Nexus needs to be near gas first. That location is just strange in that it doesn't make the usual 90 degree angle for your nexus.

Jaedong is morping a lair and 2 evos. Bisu adding a 3rd gate and a pylon. Forge is spinning. This could be a +1 speedzeal timing attack. Bisu also made a couple dts. One got repelled at Jedong's nat. The other got a drone at the center 1 expo.
Jaedong has a ctrl gorup of hydras and speeed ovies. They pacify the dts. JD adding a spire. A second drone dies to s sneaky dt at the center base.

Ok the dt dies. Jaedong advanced toward Bisu with a weak hydraling group but he got repelled by bosi's goon/zeal/ht.
Now bisu brings his army to the center nat. Bisu engages but Jaedong has combination of hydra/muta and fend off the goon/zeal/ht.

I think the important sequence was JD fending off that attack by Bisu. It was well timed, but he was not prepared to fight the mutas - so he had to retreat. After that JD could just play off his 3 base against the 2 base and overrun him.

Bisu is now 2-6 in his last 8 PvZ. The revolutionist is loosing his touch.
The strat he did was pretty ineffective. His dt harass killed 2 drones and the muta/hydra perfectly countered his ground army. Good job by Jaedong adding that spire and making the mutalisks after seing Bisu does not have corsairs.

Well, it was visible what Bisu had in mind: Counter those hydras with goon + temp before Lurkers arrive, take down 3rd base and build on that advantage. But as stated before, he did not factor in mutas.

Hweasin has a goliath/tank unit composition, Frozean is sticking with wraith/tank it seems. Hwasin finds the 3rd base of Frozean with marine. Hwasin has made a 3'rd himself which I missed and is transferring scv there. HE is still ahead in econ.
Hwasin has wraaiths himself. His little skirmish at the 4 failed but he sieges up Frozean's main form the cliff and kills off a factory.
Frozean attacks Hwasin's 3rd with 4 tanks but that looks to be cleared soon with some reinforcements. Hwasin has like 12 tanks parked above the main of Frozean. His strport is destroyed as well.

they said that before the game there was something off about jaedong's mouse, and they offered a replacement one, but jaedong decided to stick with his own one, probably because he was used to the sensitivity, feeling, etc.
i can't help but think that some of it was due to his mouse, but regardless the decision to morph the lurkers at his nat before the ones at 1oclock was really odd.

Bisu has 2 gate. He is making a nexus at his nat and pressures with 4 goons however Frozean defends with siege tanks killing one goon. Bisu's expo is going to be about 2 minutes later that Frozeans.
Frozean walling off his tanks with the CC, ebay and supply depot. His nat looks safe. He has pleny turrets.

I disagree on your perception of the timing. Frozean's expo was up very fast, and he had a LOT of units (I think you missed the big blob in his main that he kept there incase of a drop). If he had moved out as soon as he had scan, Bisu only had a couple DTs and a few goons at his main, his macro hadn't kicked in yet like Frozean's. Instead of moving out, Frozean sat there and made a ton of turrets and spread his units out (fearing a DT drop, it seemed like). There is no doubt in my mind if he pushed out, he would have done a lot of damage (IMO bisu may have held it off with DTs towards the end if Frozean didn't get a turret up in Bisu's nat and ran out of scans, but that's it).

It was amazing how far ahead JD was in game sense to what Bisu had planned. Bisu looked clumsy with his plans and his BOs while Jaedong was countering him so easily - burrowed hydras in their 2nd game, Mutas in 1st game. Maphack in the mind right there.

I'm disappointed at this group, not because of the quality of games, but because we didn't get the two good matchups, Bisu/Hwasin and Jaedong/Frozean. They both have some history behind it, and I was excited when I saw this group, but alas, we were denied!

He even didn't try with his mutas, missing many opportunities to pick off stray marines, morphed the lurkers at his nat before those at his expo, and when his expo got attacked, sent his lings straight in and his lurkers straight in, which anyone could have avoided (even though he'd be quite far behind anyway). He's probably just lost a lot of confidence

I think he was disguted with his mouse later vs Bisu he showed his new mouse to the camera, as if saying "you see i rape easy with a working mouse".

Jaedong played perfectly in those two ZvP's.. damn. He had scouting lings placed all over the map and even in Bisu's nat. Seems like the "Bisu build" has long been figured out and he really isn't playing anywhere near his former self. Kal put up a better fight against JD in their MSL finals series.

in my opinion i think Bisu kinda played horrible against Jaedong... he thinks that dt still effective against zerg but now every zerg players knows Bisu build....

I'm certainly a n00b at strategy, but Bisu, more than any other player who had a very "signature" style, seems to me to be completely unable to adapt. He uses an almost identical build every single time versus Zerg. Just as Savior didn't adapt to his aggressive style in MSL finals, he doesn't adapt to anything ever.

Okay guys, I have a question from the Jaedong/Hwasin game. Near the end, there seemed to be some major micro errors from Jaedong as he lost about 7 lurkers by not borrowing. I read some posts about his mouse or something (and he waved it toward the camera at the end of game 5). Can someone explain that? Was there an issue with his mouse or something in the Hwasin game?

Apparently he was having some mouse issues during the hwasin game, so the officials offered him a replacement mouse. But isntead of using the replacement mouse, he stuck to his current one, despite whatever was wrong with it. After losing to hwasin, he was pissed off about the mouse issue, so he went out and got a new mouse before the bisu game.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong...thats just what i remember from reading the live report thread

Savior was indeed macro style, he used 3 hatch muta to harm/pressure his opponents and then he expanded a fuckton relying mostly on static D to keep him alive until ultras.
Jaedong doesn't play "more" macro oriented than savior nor did he improve his build, he simply reverted back to oldschool july style, prefering mass units over static sunken/lurker defenses something that happens to work way better versus corsair/harrasment focused play.
