He correctly makes just 3 cannons for the fake Hydra bust (initially builds more then cancels some). After that both sides just macro up without any battles. Snow doesn't lose Corsairs or Zealots, but Effort still comfortably sits on not 3 but 4 bases with more supply?? It literally is a game in which both sides make no mistakes but one side just naturally gets far ahead.

Snow's DT didn't do any dmg for 22 minutes. Sairs ddn't kill any ovies when it mattered, Effort had upgrade advantage almost all the time. Effort basically eco/hatchery/upgrade snowballed into a win once Snow threw his first 5-7 zealots is how I see that game.

Effort basically eco/hatchery/upgrade snowballed into a win once Snow threw his first 5-7 zealots is how I see that game. I thought I missed it but after watching again, Snow only loses a total of 4 zealots after the fake hydra bust. Here's the first poke with 4 zealots. He loses all 4, killing 2 hydras and 1 ovie. Nothing notable happens after that, nobody loses anything, and after about 1 min Effort is already catching up in supply. Before the fake, Snow loses 4 zealots via some trades with lings and hydras, but they are necessary trades to prevent from dying immediately. He even gets 1 drone in the opening, and the probe forces the 3rd hatch to be placed off spot. These are normal trades that happen in any PvZ, that should not put you that far behind. Yes the corsairs and the single DT don't do any damage, but you make them in any PvZ too and them not dealing damage should also not put you behind (if they deal damage, that puts you ahead). Plus Effort also makes 5 mutas and a couple of scourges which even die for nothing. On the other hand, Effort makes 8 hydras for the fake out, killing the forge and denying upgrade, a gate, forcing 6 cannons to be built then 3 cancelled. I think that damages Protoss more than losing a few zealots. And Effort probably hits the sweetest spot between making the right amount of hydras to threaten and droning up, that puts him ahead. I just couldn't imagine it could be THAT sweet that Zerg equals Protoss supply by 10th minute. This game should serve as an example of how the hydra opening, when done perfectly, actually provides no economic setback to Zerg. Maybe Snow could have been more Bisu and gone for a semi all-in zealot HT timing which can either kill or cripple the Zerg. Him playing conservative is what puts him behind. Hence I said both sides just macro up and P naturally falls behind.

Zerg should always win a macro vs macro when no player is obviously ahead, right? From the countless of PvZs I've seen I don't agree with sairs/DT don't set you back if they deal no damage. It's only true if the P is already ahead and forces Zerg to stay honest instead of trying to catch up..Effort does waste mura/scourge, but he's already ahead enough to compensate that. Also upgrades is rly something even though he didn't do particularly well storm dodging. That is just PvZ at high levels. P has to deal eco dmg by killing drones/ovies ,or keep trading favourably till they can kill hatcheries. Or Zerg is all-inning and P just has to survive and easy win on their first or second powerspike. I think most PvZs are won by killing drones, and it just happens to be the DT is terrific at doing that

On August 07 2026 19:21 Peeano wrote: Yes, but the reason Z can macro up that hard imo is because he threw/traded zealots around the time the 3 cannons came up. This means Z can just pump a round of drones without worrying. It really isn't anything out of order though. He trades 2 zealots for 6 speedlings when he attempts to move out to get info before corsair, at that time hydras are already arriving. That's as good a trade as it gets when zealots fight speedlings in open space. And it is necessary, because when hydras arrive Snow still only has 1 cannon, so that trade actually prevent hydras + lings from diving on that single cannon, killing Protoss immediately. That's why I said I saw no mistake from Snow. It's not like there's a fundamentally wrong decision or a fight that goes horribly wrong for him the whole game. I think most PvZs are won by killing drones, and it just happens to be the DT is terrific at doing that Yes obviously (the bold part). But my point is the 3H hydra opening *is supposed to* set Zerg econ back and give Protoss the upper hand post-bust, but this game I see not only that is not the case, but Zerg also gets far ahead (equal supply is not just slightly ahead, it's far ahead). Re the point about Sair + DT setting you back. I'm not sure about that, if you just make a standard amount (5 Sairs + 1 DT). But the more important thing is you have to make them anyway otherwise you risk dying to mutas, you have no map control, and you lose the opportunity to damage Zerg econ by Dt, which you have to do, because Zerg always win macro vs macro. So going back to the game, I feel like every Snow's decision is justified but he just naturally falls behind and behind, and the only way for him to get ahead is to gamble better and get some luck (which in some cases gets branded as being ruthless and decisive, the stuff Mini and Bisu more often pull off).

Then he tried to raid with 4 zealots without +1 (maybe to distract for the DT? idk) effOrt lost only 2 hydra while SnOw lost most of his army. effOrt droned hard on 5 hatch knowing SnOw has nothing DT could not do anything either. SnOw played from behind from there and floundered while effOrt took his fourth and then fifth bases The key point is SnOw wasn't able to trade the zealots for anything. I'm not sure about his options but maybe it was premature? edit - effOrt droned up on 6 hatches
