Could he sit at the high ground? In my opinion, not. Snow would elevate some goons and reavers and take it from there. Do you think he had an idea of how many goons Snow had? It looked to me as though he underestimated how many goons Snow had given he took out the proxy gates. I think he freaked out being blind and thought he could get Snow in between a tech transition but I’m not on yours or their level so… Just wondering if he could’ve sent a zeal down first to try gauge Snow’s strength first.
It’d be interesting to hear Rain’s thoughts on what he’d do differently having seen the game’s replay.

Given he saw hardly any dragoons, Rain opted for a forge and pylon in natural. After seing a lot of goons in Snow's natural, he cancelled the pylon in natural (if my memory serves me right, maybe it was just a probe there). Rain did not have a zealot, so he couldnt have sent it. No time to build any either, as he never knew where the engagement is going to happen. Even if he had, losing a unit when commiting such attack is a serious crime. Of course, it's hard to identify probe count status on both sides after such beginnings, but probably Rain had an idea, especially after losing more probes when he sent his very important 2 goons to Snow's main which in the end hurt him more than Snow. The map also forced him into an agressive strat with reverse ramps. All of Rain's actions were justifiable, with the exception of sending 2 goons to Snow's main, which was the risky play, as opposed to killing pylon in the center of the map.

But seriously. You predicted 4-0 in Rain's favor knowing that:
1. Rain is not at the top form as he was back in ASL 5/6/7/8 & KSL 1/2/3/4. 2. Snow has improved significantly since then, to the point of being nr. 1 toss for a long time now. 3. Snow is the best shuttle/reaver user in StarCraft history and half of PvP is all about that.
You don't need to answer this, as it's kind of a rhetoric question for all folks who predicted Rain's "domination", which is just laughable given the written statements. Even caster Xun (in the beginning) gave Snow no chance, but he was soon to realize his misjudgement and eventually went with a slight Rain favor, which is reasonable.
Snow might loose this ASL still, but just the fact that he got his revenge against Rain was so sweet and well deserved. So now he is not only the best PvT player, but PvP player as well.

The impression of Rain's PvP that he left on many people's mind... 7 years ago is strong. Even betting odds are in his favor (easiest money for anyone who's following the scene closely).
Although understandable, still a bit baffling that both sets of casters, SCTV and Tastosis, have no clue about the current strength level of the players.
A quick check on eloboard of Rain's PvP in Proleagues the last two years is all it takes to have an informed idea

Rain will always be an overrated player because he got golds in SC2 and BW and had a good PvP streak, it also doesn't help that sometimes he shows a brilliant game as if he's a top3 player.
He is better than Sea/Calm/Horang2? Yes, obviously. However it doesn't make him a solid top8 player as many people love to believe, especially not when he loves to play League instead of playing MPL to keep his BW skills sharp. Potential is nothing if you're not putting in the work.

Yep, imo if he hadn't retired and kept playing regularly after ASL8 (like Bisu Mini Snow Best), he'd just be one of the 5 strongest Protosses of the modern era. He would sometimes rise and somtimes dive in form, but never be a clear cut above the other 4.
But the fact that he pratically retired made many daydream and whatif. Because the player who doesn't play is always the best player. So we have people like Artosis who claimed Rain would be a bonjwa or on Flash level had he continued, as if the growing curve in BW is always linear. In fact, most of the times you just hit a plateau and stay there forever, like most of the current active players are doing.
And I believe Rain likes to keep this image as well for his benefits. Since he came back to compete, he's always had this image of a talented BW player who is just fucking around with other things while casually getting good results in ASL. So that when he wins people would be like "oh he's a genius" and when he loses it's because "he's playing LOL and not taking BW seriously".
