its not unheard of, it just very difficult to do against a terran, especially like Flash.
JD used to practice hydra rushes in ZvT quite a few times in official matches.

This is the explanation. Also, against a lurker push you want to start as far away from your nat CC as possible, that way the lurkers have to burrow/unburrow more times and you can get free hits on them.

Flash had everything lined up to pretty much kill it, yet he screwed up all the possible ways he could I think. Yet he scouted the upgraded with movement hydras and perhaps already watched jaedong's stream to know he does it from time to time.

Jaedong needs to get a lair+lurker upgrade, doesn't have even close to +1 carapace, is still on 2 gas with a limited amount of drones.
He is dead if he doesn't kill him.
edit: I think he was on 1 gas actualy

I think Flash timing was off because the Hydra Den was a bit earlier than usual, but I could be wrong.
