Game Format      top
Eight players (1v1)/teams (2v2) divided into two groups. During the group stages, games will be played out OSL double elimination style, meaning players with two wins advance from the group stages onto RO4. 1v1 sets are BO3; 2v2 sets are BO5.

From RO4 onwards, all sets are BO5 (???? TBD).

About this Event      top

The BW Asia Open offline tournament will commence on Nov. 29 and span three days until Dec. 1. All games will be played live in SCNTV's studio in Shanghai, and viewers are encouraged to attend the events in person (see this page if you want to know how to get there: http://sc.scntv.com/news/2013-11-07/3145.html).

The tournament has two sections: 1v1 and 2v2. Both events have top players from China and Korea.

Information on players:

1v1 Players

Fengzi: ex-pro, Zerg, top player in China. Fengzi has won almost all past Chinese BW events. Presently, he's the undisputed #1 player in China. Though lately, Jaystar has been catching up and taking games off of Fengzi more frequently.

Jaystar: ex-pro, Protoss, top 3 in China. Jaystar is mostly know for his timing attacks and super aggressive style. People in China sometimes call him Jangbi of China. Jaystar is a very strategic player.

Jedi: Zerg player. Don't know much about him. Not so good.

Scan: Scan's been playing in A LOT of tournaments in China and winning quite a few of them as well. Scan beats Fengzi quite consistently, but had some issues against Chinese Protoss players such as Jaystar.

Jat.Girl: a.k.a. Beast. SoSPA.

Pic: don't know.

Movie: SoSPA.

Helios: ex-pro, Terran. Top Terran in China. I personally don't think he's as good as Fengzi or Jaystar.

2v2 Players - I don't watch 2v2, so I can only give limited info:

Fengzi and Scan make a good combo, but Scan has some temper issues in 2v2.

FengG_G and Money defeated Movie and Hero in the online qualifiers.

334 is probably the most well-known 2v2 player in China, and it will be interesting to see how he works with Savior.

I'll go take a look, but the Korean invites are disappointing, unless jat.girl and pic are aliases of famous progamers?
edit: ninja description of the players!

And Savior pairing with a Chinese player in the 2v2 tournament? How are they going to communicate?

Jat.Girl is Beast, so he is quite strong. They entertained ideas around inviting 'top' players like Sea, but the conclusion was that they did not want to invite someone way above their levels so that at least they have a chance at winning the money (totals to be USD 70K). This is why they invited weaker players (like Beast, Scan and Pic) and had Movie and Savior go through an extra qualifier. I'm pretty sure Movie and Beast will take #1 and #2, with only #3 up for grabs (possibly Jaystar if he doesn't lose to Fengzi).

334 and Savior, I've got no bloody idea.

Don't think so. I recall it's something like 70K USD, but I can't find a post qualifying that. I'm pretty sure that is (still) the prize pool.

I'm disappointed TBH. Such a huge prizepool (by BW standards) spent on lower-level pros while Bisu and Sea compete in $10k SSL's.
