About last year's YSL and My Mission First off, props to Ninazerg for the amazing tour last year. It takes guts, moxy, and a lot of time to do this and my gratitude for the initial YSL is enormous. I am no way, shape, form, or fashion trying to discredit that league. I LOVED the first YSL. Why do you guys think I am eager to adopt the name? It's just so perfect for a C-Ranks league. Kudos as well to Noise and the ASL last year. I hope more ASL's with bigger prize pools emerge. My vision for the YSL is simple: A tour that happens at least 4 times a year, built to keep the spirit of competition going in the C-Ranks community and encourage D-Ranks players to play their hearts out and reach C- so they too can bask in the moment. I am calling this "Season One" because I personally feel like it should be. If you're a comic book fan you'll understand this comparison. I see last years YSL as "Issue Zero" for the YSL series. "Issue Number Zero" is probably and most always the rarest and most kickass of the comic book series, so that is a high prestige. I am claiming the "Season One" title because this is a clear reboot, with a new format, new system, new prizes, and a planned regularity that will seed semi-finalists each time. I hope my mission is clear. I really just want to be more involved with TL, and the C-Ranks kiddos desperately need some inspiration to play and excel! Goodluck to all, and may the YSL truly be something special.
I decided to launch this whole tournament series because I was gifted TL+ for being a BW fan. It reminded me of the amazing nights I spent watching Nation Wars, the YSL, ASL, and GC while hoping that TL would do something awesome for BW, and they did when they launched the TLS. I wanted to give something back while also helping out TL in any small way I could, so I decided to encourage the spirit of competition within the C-Ranks community while also ensuring that TeamLiquid and the winners benefit from all of this. I love BW, and I learned from my past mistakes as an organizer. Instead of promising hookers, coke, cash, fame, and glory, I'm keeping it simple with each of these tours. The prizes may not be that sexy, but hey I'm only promising to do what I can. Who knows? Maybe some glorious sponsor and donor will give us a heap of cash to divvy out to C-Ranks champions some day, but for right now I'm amazingly happy just setting up 4 or 5 Yellow Starleagues a year that give out cool TeamLiquis prizes. In future tournaments prizes may include year-long memberships, T-Shirts, Posters, and much more! The important thing is not the prize pool, but making sure that C-Ranks players have a Starleague they feel is truly their own, and one that comes around plenty of times a year. Format
Single-Elimination Tournament.
Ro32- Bo1 Ro16- Bo3 Ro8- Bo3 Semi-Finals and Finals- Bo5
There will be 8 "groups" of 4 players. Each group winner will advance to the Ro8. Groups will be drawn separately. Each group winner advances to the Ro8. Group letters will be drawn and seeded into the Ro8 Bracket the same night groups are drawn. The draw will be broadcast live (I hope, if not it will be posted in VOD form). This is an original format, and I hope it is not too confusing. Come time for group selection you will understand better! Just know that the tournament is single elimination. + Show Spoiler [future YSL's] +
In the future, all semi-finalists will be seeded into one of the four Ro16 groups. The YSL will be open to the first 48 players who sign up. These will be divided up into 12 groups of 4, with each group winner advancing to the Ro16.
RULES
-For current or former C-Rank players who have had a max rank of no greater than C+ and have at least hit a max of C-. If you are D+ and have never been a C-Rank max, you are ineligible for the YSL. If you have had a max of B- and it wasn't for some fleeting moment of BW greatness, you are ineligible for the YSL. Any violation of this rule will result in immediate ban from this and all subsequent YSL's. If you are a D+ player who has consistently won D-Ranks events/tours and have often flirted with C- you can feel free to give it a shot. Don't sign up if you're consistently knocked out of the DRIT Ro32.
-No excessive BMing
-Race-picking is allowed. All players must declare their race before the match is played and may not change their race during any Bo3 or Bo5 series. Random is allowed, but if a player chooses random they must choose random for all games in a Bo3 or Bo5 series.
-All matches must be played on ICCup. Use the Anti-Hack Launcher.
-Failure to show up for matches or to make an attempt to schedule at a reasonable time for a player's opponent will result in DQ from the current YSL.
-Follow all map-orders
-Do not harass other players, casters, or administrators in the YSL forum. This will result in DQ from the current YSL.

I thought of that as well. I don't think Nina will care since I gave props to the original YSL. The reason I am calling it Season One is because of the change of format and the way I'll be seeding players in future YSL's. If popular opinion feels it should be changed to season two or if it really bugs Ninazerg I'll change it.

So I guess I won't be able to participate in this since I hit B couple of seasons ago. One thing to note is I hit it with a tournament that gave me like 1000 points and there were almost no players above C+ in that tournament. So my actual rank with ladder games is still B- max. Shimmy can I participate ? I don't want to go into troll mode about the rank barrier in previous C leagues since that will diminish my chances to play here :D. You be the judge.

The Ro32 is just a one game single elimination match so you should be fine.

Max Rank Achieved. Although if you hit B- and only had it for a day, an hour, or a single game, you're fine. If you've hit B- multiple times or held it for weeks at a time then you shouldn't sign up.

Also a note on signups. If you're somebody who hit B- two years ago but have been a C-Ranks players ever since, you are totally fine to sign up. Basically the tour is built for players who live in the C-Ranks and have for some time, or for players who might have been slightly better a long time ago but wish to come back and clearly a C-Rank player now

For example, let's say we have a C+ player who got to 5700 points, but he/she was like a 40% record after 200 games. That would be well in the range of being beatable, making it viable for you to join as C- and still feel competitive.

No, there's not a problem. They would need an enormous amount of practice to reach the next letter rank. I should clarify - if they can comfortably get to 5300 or so with 50-60% win ratio, then they can scratch their way to B-.

Thanks Nina for being awesomely cool. I think I kinda expressed my logic for calling it "Season One" and I think its fitting as long as we all remember the amazingness of the initial YSL. If lots of people feel it should be season two I can always change it.
Secondly: As with all tours, the issue of the cutoff point has been reached. I dont want to exclude all people who have hit B-. If you can play in the CRTL you can play in the YSL as far as I'm concerned. The future seasons will have 52 player slots and there will be plenty of room for folks all over the C range. I'm okay with players who have peaked at B- but live comfortably in the C Ranks. Much like the CRTL.
Sign up if you feel like you fit in. If people complain, or if the team of tour admins I will be assembling soon reject you, you will just be left out.

Keep in mind that the B- players who played in CRTL were not considered to be C rankers. There was a max of two B- per team, they weren't ordinary C rankers so it wasn't like they were thought of as people who had hit B- before and then came down from that previous high. For plenty, they were active B- players, and some were playing at a level higher than that, such as Cryoc and WandS.

since cryoc and wands probably can't win TLS i think they should get to play in YSL as consolation
again 'starleague' and again something for 'yellow' ranks ... nowadays every single tour must be a starleague? + these tours with limitation of max rank are pointless imo and boring I am not fan of it

The idea of this is that the YSL would be the ind. tour for the CRTL ranks; however, a consistently B- player probably shouldn't sign up for this out of good conscience. All C level players should feel free to sign up for this as long as you truly feel you currently play at a C-Rank level. I think you've missed a wonderful pun opportunity here by not naming the tournament "crit".

Just to clarify, first there's a group stage where you need to win 2-0 or 2-1 to make it through. (Presumably format is A vs B, C vs D, and winners and losers match, and final match?) Whomever wins 2-0 gets seeded to Ro8 regardless or Ro16 performance. Then Round of 16 is played, and that's where I get confused. Would love for an example explanation.
Round of 32 and 16: 8 Groups of 4 Only one player advances. Each group is just a bracket of 4 players. Round of 8 Round of 32 group winners (eight of them) then drawn into a bracket.
C rank doesn't mean anything today... there's no players on iccup, so like, at the beginning, C+/B- is the max rank. I saw RMust (LancerX) with 39-40 at C rank. :facepalm: If you get to C/C+ you play against the top players already. So anyone saying "I'm C/C+ max now" is probably better. Late in the season absolute ranks don't mean anything anymore, except separating player levels/activity. I won't point names here, but I think there's a few people that shouldn't play here.
The only thing I might see working is using that custom ranking thingy to discern player levels, but it's hard if there's just a small amount of games/uncertainty.
But whatever, it's your league, your rules, GLGL.

In addition, my personal opinion is that B- players should not be allowed to play, although that's both hard to police and probably sometimes unfair. It should still be done to try to make the playing field level.

Some of the drama from the CRTL has obviously carried over to the new and improved YSL, it is unfortunate that we all can't just get along , but this is war afterall folks, and not just any type of war but the war of the broods, and without these plot twists and dramatic situations that keep arising in the BW foreign scene, we wouldn't have the exciting dramatic foreign broodwar lifestyle that we know today.
The tournament has not even begun and we still are having all kinds of kind words being traded between participants and a lot of energy going back and forth.

I get that what he did in the CRTL was VERY WRONG and he has been banned from that league, but I think he will do well in this tour and clean up his act. If he doesn't he'll be banned from this league as well. We all make mistakes people. I would just like my decision on Babo to be respected and it would be nice if Birdie would cast but any other casters would be appreciated.

No, I know for a fact I never said that my max rank was D+, I was messed up and signed up for it thinking that it was something completely different.

I'm banned from CRTL for one season and I'm allowed to play YSL, according to L3gendary.. What do you not understand about the punishment that had been directly issued to me? Seriously.

That's not an explanation, that's a "BECAUSE I WANT TO NANANA". An explanation would be "I wasn't aware of the situation at the time and don't feel like going back on my previous decision" or "I'm buddies with SlowBullets" or "I don't feel the cheating was at a level to warrant punishment" or "I have no problem with cheaters as long as they're not cheating in my tournament" and so on.

Birdie, his decisions are based on his views which are its a very small price (5$) and the soul purpose of this tour is practice, improvement, fun in a tournament based format. stop taking it so seriously, he wants to be able to host 3 other tours similar to this one, with SMALL prizes like this one... does that explain it? its not like its a 300$ prize where the players who join need to be seriously analyzed to make sure there are no frauds and cheaters -_-

Group A ninazerg vs Terranito[AoV] Radek_z_[KDV] vs ihufa
Unfortunately, Terranos seems to be MIA. Or KIA. Hopefully not the ladder of those two. Anyhow, that presents an interesting situation where I might automatically fall into the winner's bracket. If Radley wins, I might be able to beat him (he says he hasn't practiced much lately) and advance, then he would face ihufa a second time. I'm not scared of ihufa, but I would rather play ZvT than ZvZ, but even if I lose, I have another shot if I beat Radley in the loser's bracket, that is, if ihufa can get past him.
I can't predict who will advance from this group, just disappointed because I wanted to play Terranos.
Group B sas.Minus vs Splax Danny[MicrO] vs fold
Splax has been really good lately, so I favor him to advance, although, to be fair, I haven't seen Slowbullets' TvP, but I have my fingers crossed for Splax. The Fold vs Danny match is kind of strange. Fold's ZvP isn't bad - I've seen him play it before - but I don't know how prepared he'll be.
Prediction: Splax and... I dunno. Maybe Slowbullets will win the loser's bracket or Fold might bone up on ZvP and win the group. I JUST DON'T KNOW.
Group C Elegant[AoV] vs Telecom sB.icedraco vs Fox.MVP
MVP is one of the quickest-improving StarCraft players in the foreign scene, and his ZvP is incredibly on-point. He will definitely win over icedraco. Telecom vs Elegant is more complicated, because Telecom has a style that is very "rock-scissors-paper", so it really depends on if Elegant has been practicing a lot of PvP to prepare. Whoever wins will have their ass handed to them by MVP.
Prediction: MVP easy, maybe Telecom. I know Elegant is a big fan favorite, because he's British (You can't deny that accent makes your knees weak) but I have to give it to ma boy Telecom.
Group D Mmmbop[raGe] vs sabas[AoV] oxysc vs ZuCrow
Sabas has been practicing like crazy, or so I heard. I know he'll get much better in the coming months, but I don't know if it will materialize in time for this tournament. Okay, scratch that, he'll win. Oxysc is a very underrated player. I think he will beat ZuCrow, and then beat Sabas. ZuCrow will definitely beat Mmmbop. Then, Sabas will face ZuCrow, and will probably win.
Prediction: Oxysc, Sabas advance
Group E CoughingHydra vs sas.zimp ToKa vs Artanis[Xp]
Zimp will win his match, Toka will win his. Then Zimp and ToKa will play each other, but whoever loses will win again and advance.
Prediction: Zimp, ToKa advance
Group F [a.G]Xenoma vs -endy- glio[AoV] vs TheMarine[BG]
This group is similar to group E, but I don't want to count out endy. Xenoma and glio are my favorites to win the first round, but endy could beat glio. TheMarine is the weakest player in the group and will not advance, sorry.
Prediction: Xenoma (Cuz he's a B rank player), glio[AoV] advance, TheMarine rages at someone, probably me, for making this prediction.
Group G Letalis[BG] vs sB.Sero Rlentless vs Siz)Beggar
Beggar disappeared, so rlentless will walkover him, then face the winner of Letalis vs Sero, which I firmly believe Sero will win. A lot of Bulgarians have been saying how good Letalis is, but they tend to overhype their own players, because BULGARIA POWAH. That being said, I like rlentless, but don't feel like he can touch Sero or Letalis. It's almost a two-man group.
Prediction: Letalis, Sero advance, unless Beggar suddenly appears to win it all, which won't happen.
Group H Pikka vs art_of_turtle dr.shrinker vs sas.LuMiX
Lumix will win against dr.shrinker unless a major fluke occurs. Art_of_turtle has played "up to C" with Zerg (don't quote me on that, that's just how I remember it), but he been practicing almost exclusively Terran lately, so will it weaken his play? I don't know, and additionally, I don't know who Pikka is.
How are groups working? The op doesn't mention what format groups will use, and from what I remember from the (now deleted) group selection vod, it looked like a single elimination bracket.
I don't get those all groups too. Its normal single elimination bracket for 32 players, with first round being played as bo1 match, which is a little bit ridicolous in my opinion, especial that tournament is being played across several weeks. But who cares.

So then we both agreed to another game to make it even, I won the last game he says " gg , gl in the rest of ysl " ect., making it 3-2 or 4-2 if you include the disconnect in which I was going to win anyways....and then he F removes me on skype, and goes to shimmy and tells him a different story, and when I try to talk to him on Fish about it he pretends hes korean, and then goes into op Ever- clan to try and make the clan members mad at me lol....Would you be upset? Ok then. Then last night the kid calls me on skype and talks shit / BM's and acts immature for 30-40 minutes, I just laugh it up and tell him how I felt and explained to him my side of the story, while he continues to talk shit nonstop and say the most ridiculous BM and rude things, meanwhile I am the bad guy as usual.

Well hard to say, both Telecom and MVP act sometimes like immature (without any offence, i just see this whole time on forum and/or game server), so most probably they are both guilty this situation.
Let's see all the replays, if they had some verbal agreement in the games then you can decide from that, not from heresay through skype messages (which can be edited)

But I personally think the "punishment" is overly-aggressive, because there are some known unknowns, but there are also some unknown unknowns (things that we don't know that we don't know), like what if, hypothetically, Telecom is correct in his version of the story that MVP told a different story to TheShimmy after their matches? If I were in Telecom's shoes, I would be mad too, but if someone hypothetically talked smack to me over skype calls and then came into my progamer Korean channel, I'd call the police too. I didn't edit the skype logs at all and there is like 2 other people ( KeT / ScaryZerg (Roscoe ) ) who i'm sure would vouch for me ....and yes you did come into op ever- channel pretending to be korean saying I was the badmanner one and all this stupid stuff. I was BM because of the situation at hand, and how YOU went about it. I'll answer that question with an equally smart-ass response. No, because I'm Korean, I actually talk to other Koreans in Korean characters.
Also, using insults like "you try and join another clan and i will get you immediatly kicked for being a little bitch" is one, not exactly the best way to handle a debate, and two, hardly makes you look like a bad-ass in talking about an online game to secure your status as someone to be intimidated by. I think both should be banned or Telecom should be unbanned and they should play rematch. It's clear that Telecom is badmannered, and I have nothing to say about this. However, it's clear for me that MVP indeed lied, and in my personal opinion liers are much worse than badmanners. He is also not so smart lier, because he sent screenshots from battlenet to prove Telecom's bad manners but didn't notice, that in fact they also prove his own lies. I would consider a rematch, but I will not reward Telecom's childish demeanor. Also, MVP did win the re of game 3 and was awarded the win. Both sides seem to have evidence they are correct about what happened with the series. Very strange. From what I gather, it went like this:
Game 1: MVP Win Game 2: Telecom Win Game 3: Disconnect, Draw Game 4: MVP Win Telecom is upset and believes that the series is 2-2 because he wants to count DC as a win. Demands game five and harasses MVP into it. Game 5: Telecom Win Telecom wins 3-2 HOWEVER, the tournament format calls for a Bo3. The series concluded with MVP's game 4 win. I would have offered a rematch to both players, but since Telecom appears to think so little of myself, his opponent, foreign BW, and this tournament, I see no reason to do that. I protected him and others when they were being harassed earlier in this thread, and he has chosen to reward that with insults to me and this tour. Additionally, BOTH players should have contacted me about what to do after replay, especially if Telecom wanted to claim that he would have won the match in which there was a disconnect to avoid a rematch. Neither player is entirely in the right, but the way Telecom handled to decision was highly unacceptable. See my final verdict below. I feel like it is a fair decision..

Hey there all, the replay deadlines have been moved back a bit! I need the extra time and there's no rush to finish the tour. Quality over speed is a good motto with tours! I still have plenty of time to get reps casted by some lovely casters, not be stressed by work (putting in 60 hours a week this summer to save money for college), and make another tour for this fall/winter.

With all due respect... but playing Bo1 ro32 during 3 weeks is way too long. We should speed it up. Try finding some extra referee to manage replays, if you don't have enough time to do it.

I never BM'ed you, I was mad at the situation, I spoke to you in a very upset way when I PM"ed you but I am pretty sure that I wouldn't insult the moderator of the tournament that I am playing in, the fact that I BM'ed the shit out of MVP after he did all of this lying to you and to the community, yeah I did that, and I am sure that a lot of other people would of done the same when they figured out what happened, do you think all this happened the same day? No, all of the shit that MVP is showing you happened the next day after I figured out what he did, I never insulted shimmy or foreign BW, I said that in this situation, it is not good for Foreign BW scene.
And the fact that I am the one in the wrong because I got mad at what someone did the day after, and also the situation was a little different, I was mad at the fact that I had the series won, he disced, I gave him a re, he had the series won, I said thats bullshit and HE AGREED, so we played another game to make it more fair, I won, he said GG, gl in rest of tournament, "I deserved the win more", ect ect., then he goes and lies to shimmy, tells him a different story, lies to the whole community, and I am the one in the wrong.
Makes total sense if you ask me, actually it makes no sense and it just shows that no matter what, telecom will be given the harsher treatment just because, and also if I am getting DQ'ed for excessive BM, then you will honestly be amazed once you find out how BM MVP is lol.... GL YO

Shimmy I just read all of the PM's I sent you and realized that I didn't say anything BM to you ever in any of the PM's, the one thing I said which was questioning your ability to run a tournament properly, is why you would take any action without hearing both sides of the story first of all, and secondly why would you take action when both players are not around, and just one, especially in this circumstance?
I am pretty sure that I am right in the sense that this is unbelievably unprofessional the fact that this kid is allowed to lie to everyone here and even though I showed proof he is lying, no one is even taking that into consideration, and the fact that I am calling out TheShimmy's tournament moderating abilities in the PM's I sent , not BM'ing or being rude to him, doesn't mean that me or anyone else should get banned for questioning the protocol of the tournament.
Especially when basically MVP is lying to everyone, and you saying that i'm being banned for the messages I sent to you when I didn't say anything BM to you, it was pretty clear that I was upset with what MVP did and not you, so basically you are lying to everyone as well when you are saying that I am being banned for PM's I sent to you and MVP, and his friend? ...Something that is being said to MVP's friend which has nothing to do with this at all, just proves to me, and it should prove to everyone else as well that you are clearly just taking his side because I am telecom and he isn't.

If it was anyone else in my shoes, i'm sure it would just be a rematch BO3, but since it is me people pull out pitch forks and don't even want to hear my side of the story, which is understandable, but TheShimmy's professionalism in handling this situation in my honest opinion was terrible.

The delay in replays wont be a problem. You'll all be notified of your opponents tonight for the Ro16. Don't worry all! This is mostly just me shaking the rust off and learning to schedule and coordinate a tour better. Give me time and understanding
Jesus Telecom... If you'll apologize for threats and BM to MVP right here in this thread I'll ask for a Bo3 rematch. But so help me god if either or you BM, threaten, or do anything ungentlemanly in that rematch I will not take kindly of it.
I sincerely apologize to PassiOn for my behavior, I understand that I shouldn't get angry and BM at the results of the games, no matter what even though the circumstances, if a rematch would be allowed than I would be fully up for it, thanks for understanding

Not sure if this was a lie as well, but MVP said that the rules regarding disconnecting as he was told by Shimmy, was that " No matter what, if your opponent disconnects , it's a re game " and I was like " wtf dude? What if the person just purposely disconnects so he gets a re game? " and he responds with " Then it's an auto re match no matter what " , and it makes you wonder lol.....
gogo Rematch of Telecom and MVP!!! Leave the BM till after the games are done, and only direct them at each other, and don't take it too much to heart. Just work your way next season, and build up that hype. None of this bullshit of having to try and W.O. your way to a win.

He did say he's kinda busy and the players don't seem very interested anyway. Only got PM from one player about results. If you played your games PM me the results thanks and we can continue this tournament.
One can only organize a tournament so well. The fact that Shimmy is doing this for nothing is pretty admirable in itself, and providing a prize pool that involves money. I'm pretty sure we can all organize a tournament fairly well on our own, so if the speed of the process doesn't suit you, you're always welcome to host your own league.
Maybe you should make skype or some online msging mandatory so you can get ahold of these people, if they don't reply after some time then give a WO, ensures that everything is running at an acceptable pace. I understand nobody ever really wants WO, but if it runs smoothly you can always hold another tournament immediately afterwards so they will get another chance.
Some recent events in my personal/professional life have made it impossible for me to put the time into organizing tours that they truly deserve. I took the initiative with this tour thinking I could, but I cannot.
I feel like such a waste for it too...

not exactly what happened. Verification was done, but he didn't accept the wins due to some other unknown reason. I can upload GwangTaeks' replays if anyone is interested.
