Are the VODs mislabeled on Youtube? I see VODs labeled qualifier #6 but as far as I can tell, that hasn't happened yet

Okay so for anyone tabulating points, there is a clarification of the bracket that needs to be made due to a series of unfortunate circumstances:

In the Ro128, two players were unable to play eachother but did not experience lag with admins individually. This is what we refer to as an ipconflict. From the admin perspective this is difficult because no single player is at fault and can be disqualified. Typically this is rectified by swapping one of the conflicting players with another player who is available in the bracket.

From the admin perspective, one player, Dashwriter, had two walkovers and had not yet played a game. Attempts to contact Dashwriter were unsuccessful on our end, and in the interest of expediency, it was assumed he had not showed up.

Admins swapped one of the conflicting players with him in order to resolve the issue.

Unfortunately, Dashwriter had actually already proceeded to play his ro64 match with Octzerg and won. This placed us in a difficult position.

We were left with: Octzerg losing a Ro64 match, Dashwriter winning a Ro64 match but having two walkovers to get to there, and a swapped player (TTF) having yet to play a match through no fault of his own.

To rectify this we had TTF play Dashwriter to decide who would advance to the Ro32. TTF won.

This left us with:

+ Show Spoiler +
Dashwriter: 1 wins 1 loss
TTF: 1 win 0 losses

Dash > Oct
TTF > Dash

This results in: TTF has no losses and thus cannot be eliminated from the tournament, but Dashwriter has played more games

To make this work in the system, we placed the deciding match in the ro128 on the bracket. This means the bracket reflects a ro128 knockout for Dashwriter

Nonetheless, in recognition of the 2 walkovers Dashwriter received in the first place and his win against Octzerg, he will still be awarded his Ro32 points.

Regardless of whatever you think happened, there is no possible way you can earn points for Qualifier 5

As explained the bracket does not reflect exactly what happened.

At the end of the day, you played two games:

Octzerg > HNOblivion in the Ro128

and

Dashwriter > Octzerg in the Ro64

Dashwriter initially had 2 walkovers to get there, and due to the mixup with TTF, we had to revoke one of those walkovers and replace it with a game; this means we inserted a game between Dashwriter and TTF, which TTF won.

This graphic explains this:

In either case it's Dashwriter or TTF who advance to the ro32.

The only person who had any right to complain was Dashwriter, as one of his walkovers was revoked. In recognition of that revocation, the walkover was included as a win, which means his initial Ro64 victory resulting in a Ro32 slot was awarded points.

There is absolutely no scenario in any of this where you are entitled to Ro32 points. You played one Ro128 game and won, and one Ro64 game and lost. That decision is final.

Let me carefully lay out what happened in chronological order. Yes there was a mistake, but the mistake affected Dashwriter and no one else. Dashwriter was awarded Ro32 points to rectify this.

Chronology of what happened:

    Original Bracket:
  • Dashwriter had 2 walkovers to the Ro64
  • Octzerg played Oblivion in the Ro128 and advanced to meet Dashwriter in the Ro64

  • TTF had an ipconflict with his original opponent
  • Neither player is the lagger, neither can be disqualified
  • The only solution is to find two free players who have no opponents and swap them

    Swap:
  • Dash looked available to swap because the bracket was at the Ro128 stage and his walkover (over no one) to Ro64 was not entered (this was the mistake)
  • In reality, Dashwriter and Octzerg had gone ahead and played their Ro64 game; the admins were unaware
  • Admins attempt to contact Dashwriter but are unable to get a hold of him. He is assumed to be absent and the swap is made because the Ro128 could not wait any longer.

  • Octzerg and Dash finish; Dash wins
  • Octzerg is eliminated
  • Both players return to report, however now the swap is made and they cannot report.

  • TTF's original opponent is in game with his new swap, and the swap is now irreversible
  • TTF is left without an opponent

  • The situation is now: (i) Dash > Octzerg, (ii) TTF with no opponent, and (iii) only one slot on the bracket in Ro32 available

  • To resolve the issue: It is decided that TTF play Dash to determine who gets the Ro32 slot
  • This was deemed the fairest decision, and least harmful, as Dash had already received two walkovers. This essentially works as revoking one of those walkovers (requiring him to win 2 games, rather than 1, to get to Ro32)
  • The winner then gets slotted back in where Dash originally was

  • Dash and TTF play. TTF wins.

  • For the purposes of the website's bracket software: The inserted game between TTF and Dash are entered into the system as a "Ro128 game" and the winner gets "walked over" Octzerg to Dashwriter's original slot in the Ro32

  • Dashwriter, having previously won that Ro32 slot (before the conflict), is still awarded Ro32 points in fairness

The player most "wronged" was Dashwriter, but at the end of the day, he had two walkovers that landed him directly into Ro64. He had played no games to get there. Had he beaten TTF, he would have then won 2 games to get to the Ro32 like most players.

Octzerg was eliminated from the bracket through normal play. He won 1 game in the Ro128 (over Oblivion) and lost 1 in the Ro64 (to Dashwriter). At no point was he "supposed" to play TTF.

There is no scenario here where Octzerg gets Ro32 points. Up to Ro8, this is a Bo1 tournament. If you lose a game, you're out.

Octzerg: Dashwriter (and you, most likely) have the replay where he beats you. It's not needed, though, because you openly admit in your previous post that you lost to Dashwriter. Everyone at the time, and now, did not dispute that you lost to Dashwriter.

Change of Perspective:

Hey HawaiianPig & Octzerg, maybe this post will bring this topic to an end.

(From my personal point of view - more or less objectiv):

Qualifier 5: 110 participants

By looking at my bracket I saw that I got WOs for the Round of 256 and 128 and my first opponent would be the winner of Octzerg vs HNOblivion in the round of 64. At that first look I had not advanced from round 128 to 64. Based on earlier experience from previous Qualifiers I knew it was due to possible IP conflicts in other matches and therefore there was still the option by the admins to change the brackets. When I saw Octzerg back in the channel maybe 10-20 min later, I looked again in the bracket to be sure that swapping is not longer a possibility. At that point the bracket showed Octzerg and me in Round of 64, so I msg ed him to start playing the game. The game lasted 12:18 min and was very back and forth with me as the finally winner. I remember, that someone msg ed me ingame. I was not replying, because first I thought he was msg ing the wrong person and second I was to busy with microing to answer at all. When I came back in the channel and tabbed to my browser I saw that things had changed. So the admins told me to play TTF now (look please at HawaiianPigs post, where he already explained why). After a short discussion with Octzerg, the admins and me, I played him and lost. I was out of this qualifier and got as a compromise the points for the Round of 32.

Facts:

- In this qualifier with 110 players, 18 players got two WOs to enter RO 64 immediately. I was one of them.
- When I was finally looking at my bracket before the match vs Octzerg started, both of us were in the Round of 64, so swapping was at that point not longer possible.

Conclusion (in a subjective way):

@Octzerg

You lost in Round of 64 vs. me, so you got regulary eliminated out of this qualifier (without any points). I liked that you instant told the admins that you lost. Annoying is of course the fact, that you got several whispers ingame, what is always confusing and not performance enhancing plus got not the chance to play TTF who was supposed to be your opponent after the changes in the bracket were made. I understand that you are angry, cause you did not qualifier (saw that game from yesterday vs the polish T, this one missing Lurker in the beginning at your 3rd cost you the game. Overall I think you are clearly the better player).

@HawaiianPig and the other admins that got involved

The keypoint in this issue is that swapping was not longer a possibility cause I was already in the Round of 64 (The bracket showed it to me). So one of you must have noticed that. You tried to do the best of this messy situation. I liked that you tried to explain the whole situation and find a solution for everyone.

@Me, Myself and I

- Got a tough opoonent first (Octzerg)
- In the possible match after this vs. Krushyn, I would be the favorite to win
- Got another tough opponent (TTF) after my match in the Round of 64 to play Round of 64 again.
- Lost and got 11 points for 2 matches (1 win, 1 loss)

Funfacts:

TTF only had to play one match to get the 11 points. --> why not playing Octzerg after me?
After the game was played vs Octzerg, I was in Round of 32 and the admins reversed me to Round of 64
--> At that moment, they could have done it with any other player in the bracket who got 2 WO s, so why me?

Random Fun fact:
Protoss players are nowadays really good

Finalwords:
I understand Octzerg for being angry not to qualify, cause that means he cares about the game . I understand that it s always hard for admins to handle tournaments and to make always the right decisions. It s hard and tough work, keep on doing it, cause otherwise no tournament will ever be played . Nevertheless in my opinion it s essential that if a mistake has happened, take the full responsibility for it. People will understand this, cause everybody does mistakes. What they not understand is, when you try to make excuses and use arguments like "He got 2 WOs, he was absend, he got 11 points, so everything is fine". In this case a 100 % good decision for all players was not possible. But in the end I think that the right players qualified, so gL and hopefully GGs ;,

Hope everybody understand what I was trying to say. It s sometimes hard to find the right words in such specific themes.
cya ;,

@Octzerg: Well, at this point the swap happened after or during your game with Dash, meaning that you were eliminated during normal play. It would be unfair to the rest of the players to let a player who had lost continue. This is getting a second chance based on a conflict that occurred after elimination. We especially can't have two different outcomes based on if Dashwriter or TTF won.

Also, while a coin flip would work it's unsettling to leave a player's fate up to chance. It is much better if players actually play. For 6 qualifiers, swapping worked well and ensured players played games

@Dashwriter: Yeah, it was tough to pick a player for the swap. You are right that there were other players with 2 walkovers, but at the time, those players had already played and reported ro64 games. We were in a tough spot with no other player but you available to play TTF.

Thank you for being understanding
