After seven weeks of qualifiers, the Altitude's ISL3 ascends to the lofty heights of the group stages. In this classic Survivor style format it will be further determined who of the 56 players qualified may continue to sip their overpriced beverages, while 28 of them will be jettisoned into the depths of elimination. This post will detail the format and schedule of this next stage - You can find the full list of people qualified here - and we'd also like to announce the 4 Invited players who will be seeded into the final stage of the tournament. Casts and stream will be done by hacklebeast and EleGant on hacklebeastTV, 21CET Saturdays and by L_Master 19CET on Sundays.
Upon initially announcing ISL3, we said four players would receive an invitation. They will be seeded into the last, single elimination stage of this ISL. As from today, we will be announcing the four invited players, along with some interviews of those invited, at:
The format of the group stage will be similar to that of the MSL Survivor tournament. The 56 qualified players will be seeded into 14 groups of 4 players. Within a 4 player group, player A plays D, player B plays C. The winners of both matches then play each other in the Winner's match. The player to win this match advances to the next round. The losers of the initial two matches play in the Loser's match. The winner of that match plays against the loser of the Winner's match. The winner of this final match also advances to the next round. The other two players are eliminated. All matches are Best-of-1 and all games start on Saturday each week at 19:00 CET. + Show Spoiler [How the seeding works] +
54 players from 7 Qualifiers had to be divided among 14 Groups of 4 players each. Each group is assigned four slots: A, B, C and D The 8 players from Qualifier 1 and 6 players randomly selected from Qualifier 2 are randomly seeded into the 14 slots A The 8 players from Qualifier 7 and 6 players randomly selected from Qualifier 6 are randomly seeded into the 14 slots D The 2 remaining players from Qualifier 2, the 8 players from Qualifier 3 and 4 players randomly selected fomr Qualifier 4 are randomly seeded into the 14 slots B The remaining players (4 from Q4, 8 from Q5, 2 from Q6) are randomly seeded into the 14 slots C For the opening matches, slots A play against D, slots B play against C.

wow I don't care about the level of my opponents, all are good... Just have to do a team kill? so sad... I guess others are in that pool; Dragon/Baku, etc.
good players have to eliminate each other in zvz or pvp (boring match ups), but it could be a great matches if...: karate goes vs trix (nice match, dont u think so ?) Pike goes vs Gotunk (nice match, dont u think so?) and DeSka goes vs dOTY ( could be mega match) same with dinot.... Dinot vs LML etc...
I don`t like if u pit best players in beggining on zvz matches... and next matches will be just boring It could be just great if u will switch players to make best pairs, for great fights, for great show matches, with match ups like zvt pvz (mostly) ^^ think about it, u pay - u set music...
Yah sorry if i said something wrong... something impossible to do, or if i don`t know rules of this tourney.. i just said what i see and what i wish to see.

Really bad idea, having one person have the ability to eliminate randomization strictly for game quality via seeding and match fixing. Pretty sure 3 mirror match ups far outweigh the speculation of abuse.
Just curious do the winners of each group know who they will play after or is it yet to be determined? ^ Does this mean for the tournament, under the assumption that the winners of the group would just be kept in order?

Hm, just curious if there's any benefit for Going 2-0 or 2-1, as in 2-0 would play a 2-1 seed and so on? (or it's going to be re-randomized with the other 4 invites?)

Don't mean to sound like a dick, but I guess we just assumed ISL was uniformly played at 19CET every Saturday. It's one of many things we need to fix in the OP tomorrow, sorry about that.

No benefit other than you qualified for ISL3, everything will be re-randomized.
well lets put it this way: aztec used to be horribly unfair (39% tvz 34% tvp), then kespa released neo aztec where the only thing they changed was they made the nat dropable, and since then it's been a pretty balanced map (53%, 50%). You know what you must do.

I was looking @ that but the sample size is too small to counter balance the old stats.
Lol Someone didn saw the rules?! There are 4 players in 1 group. MSL style with winners and looser bracket. Also having zvz will show who is better zerg (not entarely true) Becouse ZvZ is really Skilled match up not just random luck with build orders as most people think. Zvz is much better than Pvp or TvT in terms of making decisions (reacting corectly) outsmarting ur opp, micro-macro here is critical. The player with less mistakes will win. Every drone every ling every second count here. That's why zvz is short and intense with action packed moments. Is way more better to watch (except some boring match ups where both opp doing nothing) than PvP (just mass army and fight with some reaver micro and that's all) or TvT (taking much expo and games with 30+ boring minutes) Excuse my english
@Shad/Bibiane/Plumbun: Hey guys i ask you if we can pre/post play our group, since i move to germany (for visit cousins for easter) on saturday till monday. Hope we can fix up a date, thanks alot

Anyway GL to all players, and a bit extra to the sas players ofc! Seeing the level of the players who qualified this should make for some very interesting matches, there are some killer groups in there.
Sorry about some of the typos and wrong flags etc! We wanted to announce the groups as soon as possible so people can start preparing. I think we did it a bit too hasty though so bear with us while we do some fixing
In the event that you don't read the Brood War General section, we have a very exciting development over there concerning the ISL, and that is the ISL Fantasy League. You'll be given groups of players to pick from, which you'll be selecting one player from each group. Once you have all your players selected, you submit them to altitudeislfantasypool@gmail.com.

want to know more about the UED player anklebreak? who is he and what does the have in store for isl3?
Interview First of all, how've you been doing since last ISL? Are you actively playing and practising, how have you been doing in any other leagues?
anklebreak: i nvr watched any pro games until late 2011 so i can't comment much, but i did play a lot of 3v3 games on us east before finally taking low map 1v1 seriously in february 2012. i've practiced once on fish server last week and plan on practicing my terran a bit more on fish and iccup.
Have you been following ISL3 so far? How do you feel about the current field of players?
anklebreak: i watched qualifiers 1, 2 and 7. everyone seems pretty strong but i guess thats cause i'm only a c rank player.
The main tournament of ISL3 starts in 4 weeks. How are you going to prepare?
anklebreak: in my mind i'm already ISL3 champion. i'm nvr scared homie, if i didn't think i can win this i'd nvr have joined in the first place. all i have to do is just implement my game plan to win it all.
When ISL3 kicks off, how do you think you'll do? What are you goals and how far do you think you can go?
anklebreak: i plan on winning decisively in my group. i hope to sweep all 3 of the guys in my group. i have my eyes set on the finals.
Any shoutouts you want to do? Where can people find you?
Group three match between Terr0r and Dewalt...is a must-watch. 40+ minute edge-of-your seat game with odd comebacks, clutch recalls, money storms. highly entertaining and highly recommended.

Group 6 had caught my eye since the beginning. I haven't had a chance to cast as much dinot as I've wanted to, and I've heard really good things about kashu's recent form. Obviously pike is always solid, and with defi's recent GC performance, it makes him an interesting wildcard.

Defi is a huge underdog in this group, also we all have something at same time this saturday, so prolly Defi will not even show up T-T

I don't think the stream has started yet. I think It starts 1 hour and 30 minutes from this post.
The players started playing already, but they have to finish up their games to submit their replays before the games can be casted.

as the other guy said, stream isn't for another hour and a half. But twitch chat should still work even when a stream is off. Maybe try using a different browser?

Damn, I was looking forward to see DinOt play again That said, if he doesn't bother showing up, he doesn't deserve people cheering for him either.
Are the 4 invites seeded into the Ro32 still unannounced? (Based on missing names I have to guess them to be Sziky, Michael, Ace and Pro7ect?) edit: my bad, they are the first thing mentioned in the OP (invites)... still, I guessed well!

YES ---> There is a problem with twitch.tv chat and in some locations it's laggy or delayed, I don't know the reason for it, maybe it has to do with their server/network, etc. I hope they resolve it soon because I don't recall this happening with twitch.tv chat (ustream was garbage ;

ok great it wouldn't be a problem if I plan it out with wallace and play on hamachi right? we talked about it a bit on bnet and he said he had hamachi but we didn't really go in detail.
does this concern rule 6? so should we take SS of our discussion and send it to you guys to decide a match date? or just figure it out amongst ourselves and play?
lol sorry for all the questions
Given that it's only two parties, I wouldn't see a problem with a simple confirmation here of you guys playing on hamachi the day of. You can't play earlier without the entire group because you don't face each other in the opening match. You guys should also before confirming (Wallace) test if you can see each other and play on hamachi prior.
Thank you for casting these games. I really enjoy watching them. I like the overlays, I like the speed of the castings and I like that you interact with the viewers via chat from time to time.
Your casts are becoming more popular, so my feedback is to try to make the casts a bit more professional. Every cast I hear mulltiple background noises that seem to be caused by the caster(s). e.g. a squeeking chair, a chair scraping the floor, touching the mic, putting down a glass of water on the table (2 hard surfaces contacting) where the mic is sitting on. And when you have to sneeze, burp, cough, clear your throat or any other sound making reflexes, PLEASE turn away from the mic without bumping into the mic or the table it's standing on.
To me as a viewer those noises are real mood killers!

those thing aren't much of a problem for me as a viewer, casters do that some times.even when i watch profesional football commentators or tenis sometimes the commentator cough and apologize righ after. but you have the reason that they can avoid making noises as touching the mic

Wasn't really lucky, I made a huge judgement error in attacking when my factory was almost finished instead of just defending. Also wondering if organization can keep really up-to-date for this weekend as the next round will start and the people who are serious about it can be well informed for the week to prepare, I know everyone is busy but it would be nice.

Literally just waiting for Saturday's results. I'll more than likely post on Sunday, with 2 finals on Monday and 1 on Tuesday.
lol it was nothing big, just they described Ronin (who I know personally) as a typical macro toss who doesn't have the best of micro, and likes to take games to the late-game.
Quite the opposite actually .. Ronin is a freestyle type player who loves to play aggressively and harass, because he loves "art" play. Understandable mistake by the casters, since he's not a very public figure, but I just thought it was hilarious to hear him described like that.
I've watched at least 40 replays of Ronin and I disagree with both of you. Maybe his play impresses you to call it art, or harass, but he just makes a lot of units and throws them at his opponents. Many times I have advised people to just live 16-18 minutes versus him and they have no chance of losing. Albeit, I do agree with you more
well I'm not necessarily saying his play is "art" play, I'm just saying that's the kind of play he likes so he plays aggressively and harasses lol. He's an instinct/freestyle player, so he does w/e the hell he wants, which you could negatively characterize it as just "makes a lot of units and throws them". But that would go for a good number of very good players/progamers who also play that type of super aggressive style, so it's not something you should really look down upon.
Okay, I have to ask. How do you upload VOD's longer than 2:00:00 to youtube. It seems like by default twitch breaks videos up into 2:00:00 chunks. So if I just go to the video on my twitch and tell it to upload to YT it will upload only the first two hours.
Since you seem to have this figured out Hacklebeast I was hoping you might have some insight for me.
