Nice, but you should include flags and races especially seeing most of these players are not well known. Also, if you include the date and month in the [date] tags it really helps because that can change between timezones :3 I thought I had missed it

go ace,sziky, and napo! =]

Oh snap dats big. gl to all participants!

Can you use date tags instead of time tags? it puts the day wrong for me when you do that (says saturday, is actually on sunday) thanks!

It's JoeKim vs Cute first round.

Looks awesome, I hope for a smooth and action packed cast! I can't wait for the latter groups, so excited to see how everything pans out. And I hope White-Ra is a decent enough challenge, hopefully his time with SC2 hasn't degraded his BW skills.

I had the opportunity to interview the German ISL-participant Bakuryu for the German fansite broodwar.de. Here is the translation. I'm sorry for the bad english but I have like no time and have to go to work like at this very moment.
+ Show Spoiler +bw.de: Hallo Bakuryu. Please introduce yourself. For what are you known for in the BW-scene? bakuryu: My name is Mike Lange, I am 21 years old and I am from Crailsheim, Germany. I play Broodwar for almost three years now (Zerg only). I was a not well known (bad) player for most of the time, because I stayed in the background usually. 99% of the better German BW-players switched to SC2 or totally stopped playing and that’s why I’m the last one. My only bigger achievement was my participation at the German WCG National Finals 2010, where I lost 1:2 to Kolll and 0:2 to Klauso. bw.de: What do you think of the non-Korean BW-scene right now? bakuryu: There are still opponents out there who beat me every time, so it’s OK for me :D. SC2 banged into the community like a bomb and only some widespread parts were left. Thanks to some ICCup-Events, like ICCup Attack!, Showmatches and the ISL, all casted by Sayle, the parts regathered again. A new “elite” exists, with known players, who know each other and are seen as the better ones by the observers.
bw.de: Thanks for the assist. The ISL has started! You qualified for the group stage without major problems. Did you doubt it at any point of the ladder stage? bakuryu: In the beginning– No. At the end– Yes. Only a few days before the end of the ladder phase I was ahead of place 56 with a huge margin. Only one day later place 56 came a lot closer, so I had some doubt. I didn’t want to ladder anymore, because I didn’t want to lose points. But after all I was ahead with ~1000 points and qualified as #15.
bw.de: You are in one group with Ramms, sOte and BigPio. You have to prepare for every matchup. What do you think of your opponents and will you advance to Ro32? bakuryu: Ramms put together the group and I was sure that he was going to select me. He has won 14 out of 14 against me so I was his “safe-pick”. sOte is my opponent. I’ve never played him and haven’t found a replay yet (bw.de: He found some replays 10 minutes after the interview). That’s not optimal but I guess my 4-hatch-style should help to win. I am 3:1 on 2-player-maps vs. BigPio so my odds are relatively good. My bet is: Ramms beats BigPio at FS, I’ll beat sOte at colo2. Ramms at Hithhiker is a loss for me, so I’d have to play sOte or BigPio at HBR, but I think that I will win that one. I am prepared for HBR and Destination, the maps for Finals- and Losersgame, because they were MOTW.
bw.de: We hope so. The Ro32 is played in single-elimination. So the grid is relatively luck-based. What’s the best place you can achieve? bakuryu: If the grid is perfect for me (all good players in the other bracket) I can get to the Quarterfinals. Realistically Ro16 is absolutely possible. I’m curious about Kolll.
bw.de: The question about Kolll was supposed to come later, but let’s talk about him now. How far will he advance? bakuryu: He’ll get into the Ro8 for sure. Everything else depends on how much he practices.
bw.de: Besides Kolll there are other candidates for #1. Who has a shot at #1? bakuryu: There are so many good players with unpredictable skill. Scan, Technics, Sziky, Ramms, Heme.... One of them will win it all.
bw.de: The #1 will win 500$ and plays a showmatch against the Ukrainian legend White-Ra. Do you hin Ra has some skill left or will he get destroyed? bakuryu: That’s a good question. I think, with all respect to White-Ra, that he’ll lose 0:3. He could win if he practices only BW for 2-3 weeks. So it depends on how much he prepares.
bw.de: Well, we are curious and looking forward to an exciting tournament. Thanks for your time and the precise answers. Good luck in your matches today, Bakuryu. bakuryu: Thanks, I am happy, to help.
Bakuryu fighting!

All the info can be found here or in the thread on TL. There is a RO56 tournament with 14 groups being played. 28 players advance and get mixed with the 4 invites, namely Kolll, Castro, Game, and Patron. That yields a 32 man bracket I guess?

The Saturday live casts will be uploaded as single VODs (one for each day). The Sunday replay casts will be divided into one VOD per group. I will upload these all as soon as the casts are done and update the OP once the upload finishes (usually takes a couple of hours).

disgusting attitude from joekim
he skip stargate and go adun, which is risky and he bm like that about all-in?
like he never cheeses? he is the most difficult cheeser to face (as a random cheeser)
who cheese me in AoV invitational and eliminate me?
and i personally believe that he was listening to stream.
He said before game started "i need water" and that is when i believe that he set up stream or something
commentators predicted wrong (although lurker was a reasonable predictoin), regarding lurker. They failed to show exact hydra den timing. "Normally" if den starts when lair is around 50%, then it's likely to be lurker. However cute decided to do fast hydra drop, but they said lurker in stream
Robo starts VERY SOON after that.
There is absolutely no reason to make robo at that timing. What was he gonna do with that, shuttle and drop zealots? the build he did is a risky build (watch jangbi vs calm colosseum), which could be very strong if zerg overlook it, he made adun that early and started +1ground weapon, and his zealot movements were surprisingly passive (they should be attacking and time his arrival at zerg base so that +1 and speed zealot finish almost same time)
THen commentators realised it is a drop, and comment that the game remind them of bisu vs yellow game in proleague
Then he makes cannon in main, and a spotter pylon for a drop VERY SOON after that
Reasonable suspicion i think?
and his attitude was disgusting and im sure everybody agree on that
|
Live streaming games when "past" cheaters are in them, what do you expect to happen, though? Even if he didn't, you still got to expect there to be a high chance of it, thus best to not cast his games. 2 elimination games in a row involving Joekim. He shows a lot of heart, but I guess cute didn't care enough to let him have a chance at winning.
|
Oh all the controversy, oh all the drama! It was fun. Yes he might have been listening to the stream. He lost anyway. I'll surely tune in tomorrow earlier. Thanks sponsors, organizers, casters....

The way he lost and his attitude made me laugh so hard. He may have listened to the stream literally all day long, still lost two games to same guy, whined like a little baby whose toy is taken from him, I don't know what to say. But, netizen reactions were most probably like "suck it joekim". At least mine was.
|
|
joekims behavior was fucking sad, I agree w/ GoD. its a good thing he got eliminated this early so that he couldnt cheat past any more important matches higher up in the brackets.
yeah i am vst.dragon

I'm sorry but how can Game invite himself into the round of 32 if he's the admin of the tournament? Conflict of interests anyone? I just don't think he should be playing if he wants to maintain the integrity of the tournament but what do you expect from a guy who got recently got banned from TL. If you're going to invite yourself into the top 32, then at the very least let someone else run the league in the mean time.

I don't mind him inviting himself even tough its conflicting. What I would mind is him picking maps for next round since tons of maps are really abusive for terran (hitchhiker, destination anyone?)

Please, please do your research before making outlandish comments. As a P player you should know that Destination is highly imbalanced for P. HitchHiker on the other hand, is the absolute most balanced map in the history of Starcraft. Plus... I don't even play in the group stages.

I see statistics and understand ur point, but those maps where played during the 6 dragoons dominance plus the game has changed a lot since then. There is no way flash would lose against a protoss on those maps for example; turtling is just too strong.
No intention no be an ass, but I still think you shouldn't pick the maps since u are playing. Any modern maps would be good though. Another good idea would be making a 5-7 map pool and letting players eliminate 1-2 maps each (saw that msl/osl I think?)
Edit: I know you didn't play on group stage so its fine, I meant for further rounds.
GL
|
Understandable. The idea was to have new and old maps and a couple of in between. Solely to prove who is the highest skilled, not who knows the new maps the best.
|
um yeah speaking of maps, in the ro32 its icarus and then "loser picks". To clarify, does this mean loser picks from the entire iccup mappool? Or some other pool. I hope its not the whole iccup mappool cuz that includes many abusive/imbalanced maps which would make the competition highly map based, rather than actual prepareness and skill.
o yeah and it also includes 2v2 maps, which are obviously imbalanced for 1v1 in most cases, much more so than the regard outdated and imbalanced 1v1 maps.
|
i dont think map balance comes into play at this level of play. after seeing day 1, i dont think it matters what maps are in as long as its not fastest
|
Good point we have discussed that a lot of times... forgot to add it to the main thread, added now.

map balance comes into play especially at high levels. these maps just havent been horrendously imbalanced, like some i could mention.
edit: saw your post game, thanks for clarifying that.

dude, weve played games before. we went like 3-3 or something. don't make the assumption i'm bad -_-
map imbalances come at the point where there is perfect play from both sides and race X wins over race Y even though Y played perfectly. although korean play isn't perfect, it is close to. b to a- i dont think you have to worry about map imbalances

I also know both fighting spirit and tau cross are in the map pool but here to talk about your statement

That's pretty off topic. Tau Cross has nothing to do with the group stages. You also posted FS... which is in the qualifiers.

ok sorry, whats your aka then? and why arent u playing in isl if you distain the level of play in it?
yeah map balance does matter at A/B level. you can/cant execute certain build orders or plays on certain maps, so on certain maps play is more restricted, and therefore predictable. or certain plays maybe work extremely well, giving one player an easier/safer route if they use that play. positions and terrain are extremely important for most matchups too, positioning of armies before a battle is often more important than actually microing them well during.

i didn't play for 3 weeks due to school then in the last week of laddering i got the flu and was playing really bad then the season got shortened :-( i might have played you on 1a2a3a[pro] or maybe not im not sure

oic. yeah the shortening was pretty harsh lol, i had to gain like 4 ranks in 2 days to make it in the top56 because i was intending to wait till the last few days before starting. your name looks kinda familiar but i dont remember any specific matches, we probably played a few seasons ago or something.

In one of the replay packs I actually thought you were the best P the guy faced (it was vs a terran)...in terms of playing like a korean. You made a couple mistakes but had pretty good mechanics.

That screwed a very large field of good players. As most were intending to wait until the last 3 days, including some good friends and clanmates of mine. Really fucked up the top 56.

My personal concern with hitchhiker is you picked a map most players could literally never practice on unless they had a really committed practice partener. And even then, that practice wouldn't have been ideal. If you'd used a map like say, bloody ridge in its place, that map is at least possible to get games on ladder due to it being a current PL map. going that far back in the past and getting a map most people haven't even heard of pretty much relegated games played on that map to silly cheese, which has its place, but shouldn't be forced by map choice.

oh sweet, 2 threads about the same thing.
NrG.GoD i've beaten you a handful of times straight up not only with my Z but with my T as well. your most memorable game vs me is just the one where i eliminated you with 9h9p lings during AoV Invitational. i've casted your iCCup Attack and followed your stream. i've even praised you in the ISL Interview and now you're acting like a scrub?

i don't care whether you beat me before or not. hoenstly all the games i do remember were cheese from you
proxy 2gate, hydra rush
and that is irrelevent to this point here

Cheese is just strategy. Also about imbalance I think it affects lower skill level more than pros because they play 100x more than us so they know how to counter all the balances and make them seem LESS imbalanced. Whereas, the foreigners with less practice can't deflect them as much so when the occasion does occur, it's game over.
You guys make too many excuses, anyone who qualified is at least decent. Talking shit to people who eliminate you is garbage and doesn't prove anything. Hitchhiker is a bad map we can all agree (as kiante points out the flaws) but it's already selected so you can't do anything about it. Practice the maps given and just play your games, most of you guys are 20+ by now since sc is an old ass game act your age.
About the games: THEY WERE PRETTY GOOD! Entertaining, seem like we could've gotten more casts in if a little more organized (dont know if thats on purpose or what). On the plus, they are recasting reps on the following day which is nice (even with the spoilers). Decent commentary from the casters and good viewer count (which is unusual for a foreign bw stream these days).
Thanks and hope to see more good stuff

Now that I am ban-lifted, I will be offering my services once again to Game and Sayle for commentary and casting so maybe we can get simultaneous coverage going or something (if they'll have me).

VODs
...can now be found in the OP. So far, only the blip VODs are available. I'm currently in the process of splitting the VODs so I can upload them to Youtube as well (stupid 15-minute cap :/ ). I'll post here again once the Youtube uploads are done, since I know a lot of people prefer that to blip.
Also, the replays cast will be today at 19:00 CET! That's just over 5 hours from now! I will upload the VODs from that as well.
|
Sayle which replays from games are you gonna cast at 19CET?

I'm just worried everyone will cheese on hitchhiker since they don't play it. The one game so far i've seen was a marine/scv rush...

Well, groups 2, 4 and 5 are the most popular according to the poll. Interestingly, all the games we did in the live cast were from those groups already, so I'll probably cast all the games we missed from those groups. That will be 10 games, which I think will be enough for today, considering I'm still a bit sick ^^;

Feb was good as a co-caster when Sayle and him streamed ifu invitational or something like that (it was one clan and their invitationals). Casting games from seperate streams is also good imo.

Edit: Also, there are 3 games missing from the casted groups. This is because the replays were not submitted on time.

seeing the last match of group 5 its clear that stimquick had the stream opened, it cant be explained otherwise. Sayle and Game should find a way to prevent this to happen in this such an awesome tournament.
I mean, what the hell...I did not want to see this low level game in such a tournament. look at how joekim is cheating and he was playing really bad. not canceling the pylon he built in z's exp? i mean are you effing serious? who does that? unless he had the stream open? only because he knew that drone was not going to the 3rd. no stargate, 1gate adun then into robo? without even seeing z's base? and thats not a dt drop? these cant be explained. so 100% sure obvious he had the stream open. maybe a 5 minutes delay cast if thats possible.
Very disappointed at joekim of him cheating, his attitude, and his level of play.

Im shocked how many people really think a pylon will shift the game that much. Joekim made B+ and selected his group clearly he is capable of playing, obviously he played poorly in the tour. Just because it's easy to comment on stuff you watch and don't do yourself doesn't mean they are bad. Mostly people who can't play themselves make these sorts of comments. As for the cheating maybe he did maybe be didn't but he 3-1'd NrG.GoD- the next day on stream.

Unfortunately, that's not possible. As far as I know, only Justin.tv is even making an attempt to implement something like that, and I don't think they've done it yet. The only real solution is to cast from replays as TSL and TSL2 did, but I talked to Game about this and we both think it's kind of lame compared to a live cast.

yes its easy to comment on stuff because im allowed to do so. I dont have to be as good as the players are, I can still comment and speak my opinion. you cant deny it was such a bad game. I dont care if he 3-1d God or not because he clearly cheated on the game.
I didnt say a pylon would shift the game that much, Im saying that its one of the clear reasons that he cheated. And in that situation after he saw cute's drone running to the 3rd (it was still half way done so he could have canceled it right before it completes) almost any protoss that are better than C+ level would cancel it. the only reason he didnt was that he had the stream open. yes he did make B+, but it doesnt mean anything.

Cast only from replays sounds reasonable to me. It wouldn't be that different from Live Casting as you can cast it as soon as the games are played (a half an hour later?), and it would definitely remove all this suspicion. Or just have one group play 1 hour earlier than schedule so you can cast their replays on scheduled time.
|
also from replays you can see what's being built and stuff, just make sure they don't spoiler the results before casts
|
yeah,stream reps
|
I think casting rep would be fine; so long as sayle can stay disiplined and not check the results first (actualy, for all I know that might be inposible, but it would definently inprove the quality if it is possible)

I casted all the Day 1 replays without knowing any results (besides the live cast games), so I think I can handle it ^^
I will talk to Game tonight about how to do replay casting. The issue right now is that we can't really start the games earlier because that would clash with Clanleague and might also be unfair to the players to suddenly change the schedule. We could start it at the same time as before and just delay the cast by 30 minutes or so, but I'm a bit worried about players getting us replays on time.
