LRM)Game is proud to present to you Team AoV's ICCup Starleague, the largest BroodWar event in the last two years. AoV's ISL will have a prize pool over $1000.
Layout: * 20 days to qualify in ladder. * 56 players will play an MSL style 4 player bracket. * Four people will be hand-picked to not ladder and qualify for the ro32. * Round of 32 will be casted, bo3 brackets bo5 semifinals bo7 finals. * Showmatch of winner of ISL versus very prestigious retired BW player. * Semifinals replays will be casted before finals. * Finals and showmatch will be casted live.
Ladder rules: You are allowed to play anyone on and off an ISL tag. You can reset as many times as you like. The amount of games you can play versus one player is that of the iCCup rules.
1* The absolute and most important rule is that LRM)Game holds full discretion over ISL decisions.
2* You must use ICCup Anti-Hack Launcher for every game. All games must be played on maps from the ICCup map pack.
3* All disconnect and leave complaints must be sent in within 48 hours of the game being played.
4* No smurf accounts. Your account must be played with your known ID in it. If you are found out to be smurfing, you will be disqualified and no further participation in the tournament will be allowed. If you are worried about which ID you should use, PM LRM)Game at account LRM)Gayme on iccup.com. If you feel that not smurfing gives you an unfair disadvantage, you must appeal to LRM)Game at account LRM)Gayme on iccup.com. We will then give you a predetermined smurf name. Failure to comply will lead to disqualification.
5* All names must begin with ISL. Ex: ISL-Joekim ISL_NoOne [ISL]Sayle. You must join the team with 0-0 stats.
6* If you want to make a new name, you must inform us.
7* Stats: You cannot transfer stats. No points on your account can come from an ICCup tournament. If this occurs, you will lose those points and have a deduction. Failure to stop playing in them will have further punishment.
8* In order for previous hackers or abusers to play in ISL, they will need to provide certain things to LRM)Game, iCCup.NoOne, or Joekim which will be handled on a case to case basis if you qualify for the top 56. All discretion for this is held by the ISL Counter Abuse Team.
9* No hacking or abusing. This is very very basic. No multiple or shared accounts. No letting other players on your accounts. No taking free wins from friends. No selling wins. No playing against your own account. If suspected of abuse, failure to comply with ISL staff will result in a disqualification from the tournament.
10* Bad Manner will not be tolerated in the shoutbox at the ICCup team page.
11* No Korean IP addresses.
12* All ladder replays must be saved for your own safety and submitted at the end of the ladder to LRM)Game at account LRM)Gayme on iccup.com
13* Any major issues that concern anything to do with names, rules, or disqualification, need to be PMed to LRM)Gayme at iccup.com.
2* If highly suspected of listening to the stream of your game, you will be disqualified.
3* All games must be played on your ISL names.
4* All replays must be sent to iCCup.NoOne or your games will be reversed.
5* Once the countdown ends and the game begins, you must be /dnd.

"I am very happy to sponsor/announce this tournament. I hope it will be a great success with lots of viewers and participants. I wish everyone luck during the ladder phase and throughout the rest of the tournament. I have one more announcement for all of you later that will be revealed in a couple of days. Last be not least, I'm sorry to say this will be my last SC:BW tournament and I will continue to support my [AoV] SC:BW team throughout their entire time in the iCC CL and other CLs." - sYz-Adrenaline
"I'm very pleased to provide sponsorship for this league. The organizer of this has a compulsive regard for smoothness and its been an honor working with him. In conclusion, I hope a lot of the gamers here will keep their eyes out for live shoutcasting and skilled competition: the more activity the better. Shoutouts to Clan OverDosed." - a1k1a4k1
"Akliz is an Internet hosting company that provides powerful dedicated and virtual servers as well as complete website starter packages. The servers have premium Internap bandwidth and excess capacity for running your services quickly and reliably. Our support staff and servers are all based in Boston, USA. Check out our trial and good luck to everyone in the ISL!" - Akliz.net
"BTCsportsbet.com is a bitcoin based sportsbook that offers reduced juice betting on major sports including E-sport events such as the GSL. Bitcoin, explained here BitCoinMe, is an anonymous and secure peer to peer digital currency that enables free, near instantaneous online transfers and payments without the hassle of a bank or paypal. P2P means that there is no third party "big brother" to monitor, control or prevent your transactions, and you can achieve financial freedom from government intervention and regulation. BTCsportsbet.com is proud to be a sponsor for the ISL and we wish all the participants the best of luck!" - Tenbagger
As this is ICCup's Starleague, be very aware that there can be severe punishment for breaking of the rules depending on the rule. As for violating the rules, you will be held fully accountable for your actions. At the very least, breaking the rules will result in disqualification.
Ladder End Date: ISL Ladder will end February 25th instead of March 1st due to conflict with the season end of DotA and a heavy necessity for server maintenance.
Top Ladder Privledges: The top 6 at the end of the ladder will be able to pick their groups. The #1 in the ladder will pick 3 of the top 56 to be in their group, and those 3 people will be erased from the selection for the next highest in the ladder to choose from, etc. That will create 6 groups. The other 32 players will be put into a randomizer and their groups will be decided then, creating 8 more groups.
The maps:

Edited Prize Pool: Of course everyone's favorite part of the announcement; the prize pool is being raised. The prize pool is going up to $1000 and has the possibility to go higher thanks to new and possible future sponsors. First place will be $500, second $250,third $150, and fourth $100. Places 5-8 will receive 25 bitcoinseach (bitcoins are worth approximately $1 USD each). In order to know what bitcoins are, YOU have to research them, do not ask me. But as is, they are a legitimate online currency.
Banned/reset: The total amount of people banned for abuse, smurfing, lack of rule following accompanied by the amount of people whom have had to reset due to not following iCCup's ladder rules has now reached 130 people + current pending cases. lol "4 people will be hand picked not to ladder and qualify to ro32" how does that work? game just picks his friends? O.o
anyway besides that, this looks awesome and thank you for everyone who worked/is working to put it together. I intend to ladder and see if i can qualify, even though I havent played any kind of sc for almost a month. BW!!! :D
i said friends, not scrub friends, aka people who you like and think might have a good chance of winning, but dont want to go through the effort of laddering.
The fact that 4 people get a bye for no reason other than you pick them kind of undermines the "entire huge prize tournament" imo, but please prove me wrong.

This is really awesome, thank you guys for doing so much for BW these days. I am looking forward for the cast. I am not sure if i should participate as i won't qualify anyway TT

By the way, ISL.Zergneedsfood doesn't fit as a name for the ladder.
Is it ok if I go with an abbreviated name like ISL.ZnF? I think it's ok, but I just want to make sure because I feel as if it might be violating a rule.

Just send a message to Game, stating the situation you'll be fine.
I am withholding information for a reason. I don't feel it's responsible to reveal the reason. ZNF and everyone else, you need to read the rules. The map pool is there, so is your name etc etc. I will answer no more questions in this thread regarding things already posted. Any questions or lack of observation on your part - is your fault. PM me at LRM)Gayme otherwise.

Not to mention he didn't specify "foreign event". I'm all for hyping up things, but try to keep it factual.
Anyways, nice initiative I'll definitely be tuning in, possibly even playing a few games in ladder qualification!
Game this tournament sounds AWESOME! I'm terribad and D+ on my best of days, but I'm gonna ladder my butt off and see if I can make it in. I think it's an awesome idea and a great incentive to ladder!
This is gonna be so awesome. Really glad to see events like this coming together. Thanks Game for putting this together and thanks to adrenaline, elegant, and a1k1a4k1 for sponsoring this; presumably with their own money.
I'm not gonna make it, but might as well participate in the ladder for the hell of it. Good incentive for more practice to get that yellow rank.

Ermm, ahem, no problem :D.
But yeah, we're all really excited about this tournament too- especially after the amazing response from the AoV invitational. GOGO BW!!!
We now have a special Button implemented at www.iccup.com and all it's overview pages. Click it once every while, we will update information there regularly.
Also, if you want to be a little more hyped, here is some fancy wallpaper for you:
This is fucking sick! you aov guys rock for making this tournament. I would even consider trying (and epically failing) to qualify if it wasn't for the anti hack rule. Can't wait to watch good luck all!

go out and buy a new pc just for ISL!
I can play bw lag free on a $150 netbook these days... I used to watch reps on it at work in windowed mode and minimized when the boss walked by... hehehe
ohh I heard about this earlier today. It's like TSL in a way, except its Iccup. XD I hope that everyone who competes does well, I'm looking forward to some great games. =D

Anything involving promoting, advertising, computer skills is needed. If any of you remember TSL, there was a lot of Computer Graphics and Art integrated with not just the Ladder but also with the Players and the Brackets. If you pertain any skills in that department or if you are talented musically (instrumental/vocal/composition), we'll be glad to use you in this Event.
ok so from what i read above i understand i need to make a new account (that starts with isl) and join the team, then play on the ladder , but a question we will play other players from the isl team only? or do we ladder normaly ?
I tried to create my new account on ICCUP, but it's not sending me the activation link. I tried to redo it and send it again but still no luck. Is there a problem w/ yahoo emails? (and no, it's not in the spam folder either)

This happens every now and then with standard activations, I have no clue why. Try to contact a Super Admin on the server and ask him to activate your new account manually.
If you were not accepted to the team, it is because you did not read the rules. You have already played games. I am giving a ONE TIME chance to rejoin the team with 0-0 stats. That is my mercy.

Well it isn't too clear what u meant by "I won't accept anyone for 51 minutes." Do you mean that you won't accept anyone after 51 minutes or hasn't been accepting for last 51 minutes? I am not sure.

I would play a few games now, only if i won't have to sit in the office whole day god damned. Well GL&HF to all players. Events like this really make me happy. I also wonder how many participants were at TSL ladder stage?

Guess you guys really don't watch the BW streams lol. He's a Korean living in Australia, and goes by the handle NrG. GoD. His regular ICCup account is ranked A-. He has a ridiculous apm, and multitasks like crazy
Wake up. 48 join requests. 14 accepted 34 denied. 34 denied for this reason: You cannot ladder until you are accepted to the team, you must be 0-0 when I see you.

The min rank to qualify probably will be B rank anyway so who cares if you are even a week late in starting, it shouldn't be too hard with the many gamers playing now for this tournament.

I believe so yes, Joekim and NoOne
they are americans too
So many people complaining about a good thing.
Thanks game and organizers very cool. I didn't think something like this would happen again.
Well now I guess it's time since the ladder is officially underway. The announcement that most if not all of you are waiting for. The prestigious player that will be making a return to SC:BW to play in a nice prized show match against this tournament's winner will be none other then the famous White-rA!
Holy fucking shit, White-Ra? I did not see that coming. I didn't think he would ever play Brood War again - in an interview he said he had uninstalled it.
I read that the showmatch will be priced, so that should hopefully be motivation enough for White-Ra to at least play seriously. Getting 100 - 300 $ or whatever he is getting just for one set is pretty good.
On February 10 2011 10:47 LuckyFool wrote: Wow I'm so terrible at bw now, holyshit this game is hard :D
doesn't help that I have a new monitor. screen is all wide and shit... and I hate playing in window mode.
For those who have problem with SC being too wide on their wide screen, I think you should have some option in your Display Properties which will constrain aspect ratio or something. So you will have black bars on the side instead of it being too distorted.
I just saw this on Sayle's stream and I'm very excited for another foreign bw tournament. Will following this and thanks to the sponsors and iccup for arranging this!
are we allowed to use accounts other than ISL to play other ISL players on their ISL account?
that was illegal in TSL2
for example when i reach a qualifying rank on ISL.GOD, and want to practice maps im weak at on my practice accounts (pain[pain]), am i allowed to play ISL player on pain[pain]?
I posted that all games are played at your own risk. Therefore, if another ISL player decides to play your non-ISL name, it is at his own risk and fully allowed by you. Besiger, he can release replays of the games he played of the stats he reset. Then again, the second I have knowledge of this I will microscopically watch his match list as well as his replays submitted.
Sickness, im glad ppl are getting active in the BW community again EDIT: Whoa whoa whoa Just read the WHiteRa part!!!!!!!!!! Now im actually excited, it should be interesting to see how WhiteRa does since hes been away from BW for so long. Who am I kidding.... its's WhiteRa, hes gunna do AWESOME!!!! Im pumped
Rooting for my idol r-must coz i'm his only fan. He was close to get qualified in TSL 1 ( he was top 80 ) so this time i think he has a chance to get a spot !
Regarding Iccup, it says I cant connect. "Your internet connection is either very poor (not the case) or is not processing UDP packets through port 6112."
First time ever I've seen this, and I didn't do anything. :o

If you go to the front page, and click on the link to the right of "players", you can see all the players ranked from 1 all the way down to the last player.

I'm also having the same problem. Port 6112 is open.
Apparently iCCup's AH has been off for a few hours now (was hanging out with my brother missed it), and the server is having a couple of problems atm. I'm sure it will be fixed rather soon.

why's that hard to believe?
because i thought he was playing sc2, also he was a hacker. both things make it less likely that he'd be playing in a BW tournament
kk fair enough, just Game was very serious about letting in smurfs/etc about having real aka and whatnot you would think that he would deny if it's not real Lastshadow.
Ironically lastshadow begged and pleaded for hours to be able to smurf in ISL claiming disadvantage due to dodging above _x_ rank. Lastshadow was in fact not a hacker, but worse. He was a map abuser, he took the time to alter maps to beat top players. This was many many years ago, however, and he has then played in ASL, ASL2, and Stamina. Outside of all of those random facts, clearly we are keeping an eye on him.
i assume the sniffing out smurfs and shit would come when it came to qualifiers. It would make sense to do it then, because you only need to vet 56 people not 300+ edit: oh cool it is the real lastshadow. yeah i'm not familiar about what exactly he did i just remember his name coming up with hackers, abusing is just as a bad i guess nice to see the vetting is on the ball :O
Actually I've not told 17 players why they were banned, nor have I mentioned it publicly. I am currently investigating _x_ players, as well as many admins are watching almost every player above 2000 points. Of course there will be thorough investigation upon the end of the ladder. Needless to say, anyone smurfing or abusing will be quickly and decisively dealt with, with absolutely no mercy. The rules are simple, follow them.
if we accidently play a game where out opponent has his AH off and dont notice or something can we just report it to get it removed instead of getting banned? or are we screwed. it hasn't happened to me yet but i almost did it yesterday O.O
but eonzerg is right, i can play in any other server except iccup, many players have the same problem that i, some ah just doesn't work and rule says that without ah you can't play

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT: I can not stop this ladder tournament for days at a time due to iCCup's error. I have decided that you in fact can play without AH or 60% of the tournament would have to reset/be disqualified. Other people cannot suffer due to iCCup's mistake. Be very cautious in your games, and check the replays for hacking if you are suspicious. Then report the hackers, especially ISL ones. iCCup's staff will be sure to take care of this and want to catch them worse than you do. Good luck - until there is AH/LAN latency.

Good decision, imo. It was out of your own control, and forcing everyone to reset would do more harm than good. However, once AH is up again, the rule should be implemented again. Only games from this time period should be allowed to be without AH, if that is possible to enforce and check.
PERSONALLY... I agree with Playa, I would not play SC without LAN. That is the beautiful thing though.. I'm going to enforce that ISL players play with BWHF (works on iCCup so you don't have to be unable to connect via using the iCCup launcher) for my temporary antihack.
Antihack =/= Ports. Port problems stem from new players afaik. Back when I played battle.net you HAD to fix 6001 and 6112 to play with more than 1 other person.

Completely wrong. Ports can randomly fuck up for people with the wrong version of the AH, as those are probably still not set right. Playing without AH can solve the problem, but doesn't neccessarely mean you solved the problem. As stated in the news. Better wait for someone from the tech-crew to confirm the changes are final. Also it were ports 6112-6118 for standard battle.net.
i solve my problem.i always check if iccup back with wifi, this morning i off wifi, put rj45 and all back,i think the problem its for the people that cant host for latency, like me in wifi -.-

MAJOR AoV iCCup Starleague announcements have been edited into the OP. Anyone who is watching or participating in ISL needs to read all of them. They are edited into the OP + in full text under the "February 20th Announcements" Spoiler.
The announcements include:
1) The official ladder end date/time.
2) Why being atop the ladder will be a huge advantage to you.
3) Every map that will be used in the Group Stage and the Round of 32, and where they will be used.
4) The new and improved prize pool.
5) ISL's new caster addition.
6) New information on why you should not abuse in any way.
Oh wow this looks cool! Nice to see the prize pool going up and diggity casting. I'm a little sort of questioning of the choice of hitchhiker but it should make for some fun games cant wait to see the list of banned people!
Just saw the ladder, looks like only 2 B+ they will be sleeping easy. Looking forward to watching some of these games, hopefully its as entertaining as TSL2!
soooooo many maps to practice on for the participants. But it will be nice to see these good old maps being played on again. I've missed some of these maps

its 500 dollares (actually 250 as a forfeit would give you still 250$)
actually i agree. BO9 seems a little too much. If the matchup is onesided, watching 5 1 sided rapes would be pretty depressing. If the matchup is close, it'll take FOREVER. please consider going BO7. I cant think of any other tournament that required a BO9 for a final. Theres a reason the korean scene uses BO5 (or BO7 for team league)
Best of 9 seems a little too imbalanced for my tastes. Even a BO7 would be pushing it. Also, since the map pool essentially consists of every map in the ICCUP pool (Since so many games are loser picks) that also increases imbalance. I guess i'm done laddering now...thank you for the tournament though.
I too think a bo9 finals would potentially last longer than I would stick around for as a spectator; especially since the chance of an upset should the final matchup have a clear favorite greatly diminish. Bo7 seems more reasonable.

Wait...how does increasing the number of games or maps make things imbalanced???
And to the poster above me: check the latest update. The ISL ladder now ends on the 28th.

BO9 sounds great as long as it's not TvT. At the end of TSL2, all I could think of was "I want moaarrrr". As long as the caster won't mind of course. (casting a bo9 could be exhausting)

According to the OP the ladder now ends both on 1st march and 28th February (spoiler vs non-spoiler). Don't understand the imbalance issue too though.
imo,if the staff choice all maps will be perfect, like osl msl gsl etc,imo the final bo7 will be perfect,bo9 its really BiG ah, the map hitchiker its pretty strange,
This tournament really seems to have livened iccup up, I'm noticing more players online than there has been recently which is excellent. The competition is as tough as ever too, I played four or five 45 minute, close games in a row last night that came down to the wire but lost them all T_T
The iCCup season is now ending February 25th, cutting the ISL ladder 3-4 days short due to internal maintenance problems. If you planned on laddering - you better do it now.
Damnit, I was totally counting on just laddering the last day and making #1 like that. I Can't ladder these next few days. I could have won easily, but I probably won't be in the tournament at all it seems. Bad luck. Good luck to the rest of you I guess.
I wonder if Agavond, ActOr (proven to be the multiple banned dischacking B high player), and Scan all spawn from the same Korean gene pool of progamers.

Check the "Showmatch" part of the OP.
Also, as the ICCup Ladder Super Admin, I'd like to reassure everyone that all ISL ladder complaints WILL be solved before the final standings are determined, so you should absolutely submit those (if they're legit of course).

The top 70 will need to send me their replay packs link here at teamliquid.net as I fear iccup.com might be down in it's maintenance. The top 6 will receive PMs from me @ iccup.com in the 3 hours after the ISL ladder before iCCup goes down. Failure to have all of your replays in a replay pack and sent to me is a sure way to not make it further in ISL

You sent it to me in 2 places... everyone in the top 70 received a PM from iCCup.NoOne on what to do. Not a joke, but your post is. I feel absolutely no need to dignify why he was allowed to smurf, if you used logic instead of thinking like a female you'd actually get it.
Well, I guess I'll get warned for responding to a troll... But whatever. Last time I checked iCCup rules don't apply to a private tournament unless the tournament incorporates them. Any other witty remarks?
That's actually not what you asked. Maybe if you spoke or read English properly, you could see that. You asked me if I let him because he is my friend. Answer: no. You then posed a rhetorical accusation/question that had nothing to do with the situation at hand. This is a very fair competition and if you don't think so I fully encourage you not to participate and or observe it.

He was banned for a failure to comply with ISL staff. He played way too many games vs Zaraki (forgot the number and rank you can check his matchlist) and when asked if he'd like to reset/continue or keep his stats/be disqualified, he did not respond. Therefore, he was granted the latter option.
if you don't like my english we can speak in polish, german or russian so maybe then u will understand what i mean, or no wait u probably dont know any other language beside ur own native one? but ofc thats not the point. You clearly understood what i asked for so stop being sarcastic. I dont see any logic in leting some peoples to smurf and others not.
That's probably the reason you aren't organizing a combination of sponsors, staff, players, complaints, counter abuse, and major decisions of the largest BW tournament in roughly 2 years.
Failure to comply will lead to disqualification.
oow, who are you? i've been talking to Game about this before this League started, before he even got the first initial $100. if he was showing favoritism, why would i invest 215 games when i can just be invited and seeded into the Group Stage? you have no conception of the situation and you're persistent ignorance is really sad. the lack of gratefulness from the players like you makes me wonder why we didn't just host a private tournament for all of "Game's friends." wouldn't that tickle your fancy? i have my reasons for the way things turned out and everything is hunky dory. learn to appreciate, not player hate.

ok, thank you for you concern. Game is probably very irritated right now, he has been orchestrating this huge fiasco with not much credit to himself. he's dealing with abusers, crybabies, flamers, as well as formatting and organizing everything without having any time to relax. cutting the season short also puts a burden on his shoulders since he has to stress this at another level. he has been working hard for the community and i think it's a great accomplishment that he achieved what he has thus far starting from scratch and measuring up to TL's TSL epidemic.

yeah there are many stipulations to smurfing, including personality and strategies. thank you for games, we could've gone 3 more for the limit :D

oow, who are you? i've been talking to Game about this before this League started, before he even got the first initial $100. if he was showing favoritism, why would i invest 215 games when i can just be invited and seeded into the Group Stage? you have no conception of the situation and you're persistent ignorance is really sad. the lack of gratefulness from the players like you makes me wonder why we didn't just host a private tournament for all of "Game's friends." wouldn't that tickle your fancy? i have my reasons for the way things turned out and everything is hunky dory. learn to appreciate, not player hate.
I still wonder what "unfair disadvantage" we're talking about. I do appreciate everyone's efforts but if you're gonna do stuff like this I feel it's important that you back up your decisions when so many people are involved. I guess I'm just disgruntled cause I no longer have a Dutchie to root for ;_;
Yeah, it sounds silly to me to have to smurf in the first place. Maybe you have to be a previous cheater to understand why you need to do it. If you know who you're playing/how they play, and your opponent has no idea who you are, how is that not an unfair adv? If sziky can get that many games in, then obviously there's no, "I'm too gosu to get games" argument. I think most people just want to avoid D-bags that can't be trusted. And if that's why you need a smurf, I think you have to consider yourself lucky to even be allowed to play in the first place. I have no real complaints. It just seems like an unneeded thing to me.
Well I just noticed I have a problem. I don't have the first 9 replays from my games with which I became D+... I don't think there is a way to find the people i played with because iccup is down and also it is very unlikely to find the guys if iccup server was on. The reason that i dont have these replays is that after those games there was some iccup update that my antivirus said is installing something containing a virus so i couldnt log in and play with AH on. I reinstalled starcraft and iccup launcher bazzillion times after that so the replays in the autoreplay folder was deleted -_- Any ideas / suggestions are well appreciated.

Could have waited 48 hours to put the ban in effect, though, for ISL's sake.
Way to ban dedicated people because an illiterate guy can't read the OP. Should have delayed the ban a couple of days

I think that ban was deserved. Not that it makes anything about the current situation better, but just because youre organizing something big doesnt mean an "I dont have to explain anything, obviously im running shit perfectly so just go with it" additude is necessary. If game had been a bit less of an asshole in his responses that wouldnt have happened
I also agree with oovv and playa, I see no reason why joekim, or anyone else should get special treatment.
Game still has my respect for all hes done for this tournament though, I just disagree with some of his methods..
edit: how does being a member of the counter abuse team give you a disadvantage while laddering??
accusations of what? Im still not seeing the connection here between counter abuse team and disadvantages while laddering. "you only won because you catch cheaters"?? that doesnt make any sense, and doesnt affect his ability to rank up no matter what the accusation is anyway.
I mean, sure people who know hes on the counter abuse team will obviously try not to bm or disc hack or shit like that vs him if they otherwise normally would, because they know theyd get banned asap. That seems like an advantage to me though, having opponents who dont waste your time and force you to make complaints.
as for being dodged, that has to do with skill, not a position on the counter abuse team. If I was to dodge joekim, id be thinking more along the lines of "oh shit i think that guy is pretty good, and ive also heard he hacked a long time ago or something like that..maybe I shouldnt play him". Notice how the fact that hes on the counter abuse team was not included in there.
So, the only reasons I can see that joekim would get dodged are because of his reputation as A) a good player, and B) a former abuser. A) applies to pretty much all legit ISL contestants, so that doesnt give joekim any special status. B) is the only logical conclusion here.
Why people would dodge a "fomer abuser" ? I think that abusers are usually less skilled than people who really deserve their rank. Your "logical conclusion" doesn't seem really logical.
Oh and when i said "accusations" i mean random drama like now. "Omg Joekim is playing the tourney and on the counter abuse team", "Omg that's not fair" "Omg why" etc... I guess he just didn't want to be constantly harassed by people.
Ideally he shouldn't have played this tourney or resign from the counter abuse team but eh maybe he wanted to help Game and play at the same time.
the only drama happening now is people questioning why he actually deserved special treatment. No one except you mentioned the fact that he was on the counter abuse team. In fact I recall someone stating that he wondered why joekim was not actually competing, until being informed that he was in fact smurfing.
Again, there is no link between being on the counter abuse team and problems with laddering that I can see lol. "omg joekim is playing the tourney and on the counter abuse team" SO?? what could that possibly change in regards to his ability to ladder?
Generally people dont dodge a former abuser, unless they suspect that hes still abusing. So B) is still a pretty weak reason to deserve a smurf.

On April 17 2008 01:43 Hot_Bid wrote: Everyone has the option of smurfing or not, so I don't see how it's unfair.
Well, let's look at it from a logical perspective.
1) The condition for having a smurf is that it must be approved (means that a player should need/have a very valid reason for smurfing).
2) All the very top players (Mondragon, Draco, Testie) and really famous players too such as Nazgul, Eriador, and practically everyone, are using their real ID's.
3) Therefore, if all the top players are using their real ID's, and you can justifiably make the argument that every single player considered a "top player" can be found not smurfing the ladder, who could possibly have a valid reason to smurf ?
4) I would then conclude that because all the top players are using their real ID's, there really can't be a valid reason for anybody to use a smurf account.
Then, you can look at why most top players smurf on ladders in the first place.
1) Their reputation might make it hard to get games, 2) they want to game without being distracted by people messaging them. (I believe these are the two most likely reasons).
SO; since these are the reasons people smurf ladders, and it's already been established that anyone who would be significantly hampered by the above mentioned 1) and 2) are NOT smurfing... there really is no reason for ANYBODY to smurf on this ladder (or have valid reasons).
The ONLY exception I can really think of that justifies a smurf is 1) Someone with a bad reputation of hacking / cheating, trying to play the ladder to redeem their name/play in peace.
However, can you think of anyone that fits under this category? Mistrzzz and Haypro aren't smurfing and theyre the only names I could think of.
Overall conclusion: I can't fathom anybody having a valid reason to smurf this ladder other than the top players (who aren't smurfing anyways).
On April 17 2008 07:35 Xeris wrote: I'm just pointing out the fact that if the top players (who you would think have a legitimate desire to smurf) arent smurfing, why would anyone else have valid reasons?
anyways, I dont really care !_!~
You are all arguing an illogical position. The decisions of one gamer have no bearing on the decisions of another. If Mondragon doesn't smurf, there is no relationship between the reasoning for another gamer who does. People do not have to base their decisions on the behaviour of others. Instead, they base their decisions on the rules of the environment under which they exist.
I want to wear a seatbelt. The law says I don't have to wear a seatbelt, but if I choose to do so and my car is equipped with one I can. The best driver and most well known driver in the world doesn't wear one. What is my reasoning?

Because then everyone else in ISL should also be allowed to smurf. Joekim seems to have been given an unfair advantage, since he knows other people's playstyles but nobody knows who he is. People are just waiting for a straight answer as to why he was allowed and no one else is. For now, it just seems that Joekim was allowed because him and game are best buddies.

No smurf accounts. Your account must be played with your known ID in it. If you are found out to be smurfing, you will be disqualified and no further participation in the tournament will be allowed. This is the rule regarding the situation.
As far as I know there was no violation of the rule. The rule says if one is worried that he/she will suffer a disadvantage using their known name they must appeal to game and a predetermined name will be given.
What we can assume here is that Joekim felt that he would be disadvantaged somehow if he played on an account called ISL.Joekim or something. Although i can make a guess what his argument was but to me this smurfing was probably allowed not because he was a friend of Game but his argument regarding the disadvantage was reasonable to GAme
What "oow" should have asked was "WHat was Joekim's disadvantage he was concerned about?" or like "What argument did he appeal to GAme to have been granted a smurf", in order to have avoided this online argument
Oh and rules don't say that the community will be told of the reasons put forward by the "smurf-requesters" so they aren't obliged to disclose the reason why joekim was allowed to smurf.
Anyway i just hope that Game will be able to run the tourney fine. I appreciate his work and i think he should just avoid to use insults when he is dealing with annoying people.
I wish him good luck and can't wait for the casting / replays !

Still confused about one thing.. the guy that's on the counter-abuse team is also playing? i.e. there's someone who has access to all of his opponent's replays (and builds)? ...right. On that note you guys might want to stop posting your rep pack in public.
Also I'm still super unclear on what the "good reason to smurf" is.
iCCup.GeckoXp: What were the reasons for smurfing?
JoeKim: From my experience as an Admin of many sorts and organizer for events: playing and orchestrating simultaneously causes more drama and bigger headaches in addition. Already upon 12 hours of my aka being revealed I have had a handful of players informing me that they would have not played against me if they knew my AKA.
iCCup.GeckoXp: This «would have not played against me if they knew» argument, doesn't it apply for other players like sziky?
Joe Kim: Sziky is privileged to be playing at a timezone vs koreans and a scene where he is not known. My timezone conflicts and i get mostly foreigners that know who I am. Many that know my playing style which also ties to many of which knew I quit BW. I had more reasons before the ladder started.
USA above B rank Random player can only be me or Game. Even Zerg would give it away. But there are enough complications to make it well-fortified… if the wording is right.
For other reasons: I don't know how to word it. I don't want to give too much away, but I had complications with the Head Admin over my departure from the crew. That created a lot of tension.
iCCup.GeckoXp: Okay, but why the dutch flag?
Joe Kim: Well, along with smurfing comes strategy, hotkeys, personality, attitude, etc. Ret was one of my favorite foreigners, Amsterdam is one of the places I'd love to go, dutch girls are hot, Netherlands has an awesome soccer team, and to top it off:one of the worst BM kids I've met was from the Netherlands. So I figured, I would be the biggest douchebag to conceal who I am. I purposely did the gayest strats, said the worst improper things, and came up with somewhat inconceivable excuses.

The rest of the groups will be released within 6 hours of the replay pack deadline, along with the 4 invites.
To answer AstrO from the iCCup.com ISL page: The 4 players from each group will be put in a randomizer, so the order is not predictable. The maps also are changed (2 switches), so be sure to check them please.
Map Changes: 1v3 group Fighting Spirit 2v4 group Colosseum II
Map Changes: 1v3 group Fighting Spirit 2v4 group Colosseum II
1v4 w vs w HitchHiker 2v3 l vs l Destination
4v3 w vs l Heartbreak Ridge
this is confusing. Is it W vs W on Hitchhiker or 1v4? 2v3 or L v L for destination? Because they arent necessarily going to be the same thing.
And am I right in saying that I am #4 in group 2, based on the order listed above? Or is it "randomized" and I still have to wait to find out which maps I play on?
Thx, for the update Deus. Hope Kr and OctZerg dont forget to send Game their replays. Would be a shame if both cant participate because of a minor mistake.
I hope you announce the rst of the groups and the schedule asap.

This also reduces the possibility of a Bo9 TvT finals XD
Did someone break down the races yet? This is just for the top 56 not the invites, some people are placed in more groups because they are match-up specific (dragon/napoleon/joekim is random/Playa)

Lol no don't listen to this guy!!(no offense just kidding) but seriously those are cool parts!! Don't take them out!
Anyway, here's a quick rundown on how the casting will work. The groups have all been scheduled to play on Saturdays at 20:30 CET. I will be casting these live, possibly alongside Game. However, with 5 groups played per day (4 on the last day), it's obviously impossible to catch all the games. So, Game will suggest the best matches of the day for me to cast live. Then on Sunday, I will cast some of the games we missed from replays.
Now, I need some feedback/suggestions on how to do this. I don't think I'll be able to cast all of the games since it'll be 25 games per day, so I'll be polling you, the viewers, on which games you'd most like to see (from the ones that weren't casted live). I see two ways of doing this:
1) Vote on the group that you most want to see casted, and I will pick the top 2-3 groups to cast. I kind of prefer this method, since it's nice to have some of the continuity of casting a whole group, plus it's easier to make a poll.
2) Vote on individual games that you'd like to see casted. Rather than watching whole groups, viewers can just pick games with their favorite players. If we do this, I'll cast the most popular 10-15 matches depending on their lengths. The problem with this is, I can't just make TL poll for it, so I'll need suggestions on how to do the voting.
Poll: How to choose games?
Vote for groups (32)
76%
Vote for single matches (10)
24%
42 total votes
Your vote: How to choose games?
(Vote): Vote for groups (Vote): Vote for single matches
Voted groups not becasue its insulting (if anything its easier to play when you're NOT being streamed) but because its fun to see a whole group play out, because the matches indirectly affect each other.
Voted groups same reason, you want to follow what the break-down of the group is rather than individual games with no knowledge of how the rest of the group will turn out. Also, I think you should post most of the dynamic groups, i.e ones with all races I saw some with all zerg and 1 protoss or all protoss should be very boring to watch.
I'm glad you're running a league, but game can you be more immature? You're the face of the ISL, you have to deal with a lot of shit, but you NEVER ever say shit back as if you're a nobody, the sponsors gave you money to have them represented in this league. How will the sponsors feel when you keep acting like a idiot. You want more BW events? Act more professional. + Show Spoiler +

Somehow Technics is extremely manner, and you are not. Stop crying to me about things that do not matter and will not change. Especially, stop doing it in jibberish.
#50LRM)Gayme(Messages 22)lyesterday @ 18:42 CET-0+ At first I was like "meh"
But now I'll disclose to the public that the reason dOTY left LRM) and stopped playing the ISL ladder is because I wouldn't give him an invite. Also for public disclosure, dOTY does not own a computer that can run Starcraft. Herpderp.
People trusted you with personal info and you tell the whole public, due to whatever doty said?
#55LRM)Gayme(Messages 22)lyesterday @ 18:53 CET-0+ Mmmm baby I love when you talk dirty to me. Please, rage harder. I love seeing your manly muscles bulging mmm and your veins popping out of your neck ohhhhhh. Baby stop it, come over here.
Seriously?
#80LRM)Gayme(Messages 22)ltoday @ 18:56 CET-0+ Technics is still in the tournament... these sad East Europeans can't read is all.
You do not diss a whole part of the world, just because someone misread / didn't read
Kinda divided on the poll. Whereas "the flow of a group" is a good argument, I think many people aren't familiar with a lot of these people and, in there preliminary rounds, it'd be good to introduce or sample as many of them as we can (i.e. cast a bunch of different players).
The groups are in the same format as the MSL groups (MST). All games are Bo1, but you play at least 2 games in your group, so it's more or less like playing a Bo3, just against different players. 2 players out of 4 advance from every group.
Machida, I will be making more polls when we get nearer to the actual group cays. That's the reason for making this first poll, to see what the format of those polls would be XD
@Ares[Effort] Yeah I agree with ya too. Game should act more professional if he wants to make BW get back to being as big as it was before instead of insulting other players. Not very mannered like.=/
hmmm,i understand ,but this is off topic, the isl group are ready, the cast will start tomorrow, not reason for complain,if u not are top 56 or invited player like doty ofc u agree, but plz,the tour its launched, have fun and support the tour,gl
As I said in my poll post, I will be casting some of the groups from replays on the Sundays after the live casts. At the moment, I'm planning to start these at 19:00 CET. Also, it seems that groups won over individual matches, so look for the polls for those in the threads that will be made for each day of the group stages.
I agree it did need much more hype. Pretty sure it's clear why that didn't happen. As for everything else, the amount of trolling in this thread is pretty out of hand. Regardless, the group stage starts within the next 13 hours.
DraW mentioned in a separate ISL thread that a fantasy system of AoV's iCCup Starleague would be cool.
