Overall, 21 players came out to play for the first ever SC For Life LAN! Although the tournament was held in Virginia, we had players come from all over the United States! People flew from California, Ohio, New Jersey, as well as attracting local players from Maryland, Virginia, and the D.C Area.

I played alright, after getting crushed horribly by Nyoken right off the bat I managed to turn it around making it out of my group and into the quarterfinals vs Machine where I lost in 3 games. All in all I only dropped games to Nyoken and Machine all day. I played Machine pretty well. As far as some of the other games I haz no clue other than some of the epic second stage games which are talked about later. enough talking, onto the videos: Little walk around before the group stage games started. Not everyone was there yet. Princeton Team totally awsum coming to another DC LAN. JoeKim playing with 6 inch monitor size. Semih vs Gretorp group stage. tossim vs nyoken quarter finals game one. looking at second stage bracket and tossim vs nyoken game 2 Gretorp and Semih semifinals Nyoken Machine semifinals Interviews with HatchetWound, CaucasianAsian, valtyr and LordWeird Interviews with JoeKim njoylife Sadly my camera battery died so no finals footage or post tournament interviews. (FAIL) And I have 4 replay packs. Ya, Xeris is really experienced in this. Especially since all the Washington D.C. people are all really into SC :D. Just wondering if the $25 was part of the LAN fee too. Can't believe I missed that LAN center when I was there, is it cheaper or more expensive? Certainly looks a bit more gamer friendly though hehe.

Anybody already been in this Netolic place? What's it like? Hope it's got better ventilation/air conditioning than the other place. Took a look at the site and it looks pretty awesome, but I was hoping someone could possibly give us a different perspective.

it's really nice, 2934082390x better than that garb Seoul PC place, plus it's non smoking. $25 includes the cost for playing, so it's a $25 flat fee - some goes to the LAN center, and left over goes to prize pool.

I'm really digging this place by the looks of things. I don't mind going outside to smoke since I do it all the time at home anyway. Wonder if they have a side door or a smoking gazebo or something so we don't have to be out front constantly coming through the main entrance. Intense games of StarCraft sometimes warrant a good smoke.
I really like the way the computers are spread out. It's very spacious and you'll be able to maneuver without constantly bumping into people or their chairs while they're trying to play. Also looks like they have vending machines which is good because I'm sure they'll be cheaper than the Seoul PC Gaming Center.
Also, English computers FTW?? On Saturday, my computer kept switching over to Korean text and it was really pissing me off.

Apparently his company is forcing everyone to work both Fridays and Saturdays, revoking all vacation time until sometime late November. Or at least, thats the jist of it. He refuses to call out sick as well.

There's a vending machine for snacks + drinks up at the front desk so that works. A good sign - we walked into the building and I looked over the guy's shoulder at the desk and saw a Hite vs WeMade match playing on his other PC and me, rob, and collin talked with him about SC and stuff. We were like... "yeah 40 peopleish will be here for a big SC tournament" and he was all WOH?!?! and he might actually play in the tourney.
Xeris, might want to update this in the OP.
There is a 5 Dollar Registration Fee. Just like Seoul PC, you have to create your user/pw for the PC. The good news is that the 5 bucks also pays for 3 hours of playtime. So you save a dollar off one hour. ($2/hour)
I just watched Luckyfool roll some B+ zerg at C... looool. He'll post reps. We also played a 2v2 vs some some D players (I am D- and Lucky is C+) and that ended being interesting because Luckyfool got eliminated before me and then we traded places and he 2v1'd them.

The place is very hard to find. At the front of 236 there's a small sign that says "PC GAME WORLD" or something definitely not Netolic... Best thing to do is take a right at Markham street if your coming from west or left if your coming from east and park in a lot behind the shopping complex because you actually enter from a door behind and walk up stairs. But yeah turn at Markham Street, there's some animal hospital and across the street from a safeway. Take your first right into a parking lot (parking is easy for this place btw) Like Torenhire said if you see signs for a haircut you know your going the right way... rofl.
Lighting is dark and PC's have basic keyboard and mouse. Some pc's have some basic headsets some don't. I highly recommend bringing your own mouse+keyboard+headphones just to be safe. Monitors are 19'' LCD's (I think lol) It was much nicer playing sc on these than the 22'' widescreens at seoul for me personally. If you want to be hardcore lastshadow style you can bring your own monitor which I'm sure they would have no problem with you setting up. Laptops should be fine too but they will probably still want you to register and log onto whatever pc you set up at.
You can set mouse speed easily with the software they have loaded on the pc's but I couldn't figure out how to specifically turn mouse acceleration boost on/off. Talked to the front desk guy some and he just showed me the speed adjustment thing which changes mouse speed. If you play with mouse accel on or off that could be a possible issue. Something to look into more if possible maybe.
Cord length won't be a problem, pc's are right next to monitor on a level surface and each space has more space which is nice. It's also really nice you can't see the monitor of the pc right next to you which was a problem at seoul. (it was too easy to screen hack if you were playing the guy sitting next to you...) there are nice dividers set up between pc's preventing screen hax.
Travis covered everything else really in his post, he's going to post some pictures of the funky entrance to help... People will get lost though, I had to wander for a bit before I found the place lol.
Overall we agree it's much better than Seoul and totally looking forward to this thing in two weeks!
Xeris u lazy user u should totally schedule a time sometime next week to get out there. If you need a ride from a metro stop I can work something out Thursday Friday or Saturday night would work best for me next week. storrzerg has expressed interest in driving you too so don't let lack of transportation prevent you from checking it out in advance....
Oh and for Travis two replays from last night,
D ranked 2v2, we join the game and I have C+ 1v1 record and travis was playing on controlfreak (a shared account) which has C rank 1v1. Best thing was when I got owned by mutas we just swapped pc's rofl.
And then I played a C ranked 1v1 vs a B+ korean, funny thing was in the chat I saw his record (like 30-6) and I'm like "those are B+'ish stats I gotta play this guy." and ended up being a pretty decent game, after the game we checked his profile on iccup and he was B+ last season...
oh and lastshadow since I know ur reading this, don't forgot my usb extension cable. :p

True. That's why I'm asking if anyone even knows how to set up the routing for something like that, and if so, do they have the equipment? I'm merely volunteering my house. I haven't a clue about how to set up a network able to support 20+ peoples.
And yes people can probably crash at my place regardless of where we stay. You'll be sleeping in the tent room, which has millions of pillows, but no blankets. Bring a sleeping bag or whatnot.

The hard part is getting like 4 or 5 switches and having places for everything and room for pc's. You have some good floorspace for pc setups but we'd have to be able to make sure we have proper length cables so everyone can reach a switch depending on where pc's are set up at, as well as making sure there are enough power strips for stuff to plug in (everyone would have to bring at least a laptop plus some people might bring their own monitors and whatever else) We would also have to make sure that everything is working beforehand network wise (definitely have somebody over to get the setup squared away on a day before the actual LAN)
I can set a network up ezpz beforehand but there are so many unknowns I highly recommending sticking to a lan center...
I still vote Seoul PC over possible Haemonculus house but this isn't my LAN so we let Duran make the decision.

And guys, it's unfortunate and all but there's still going to be a LAN so there's no point in cancelling everything - you should stop slamming on Xeris too, it takes quite a lot of work to organize a LAN. He's run a lot of LANs so when he says a LAN center bummed out you can be pretty sure there was nothing he could do about it.

Anyways, I just wanted to once more how sorry I am about this situation, and I will make up for it, promise!. The deal is this: Netolic was giving me a CRAZY deal, like $100 for 8 hours of play for our entire group (because the dude was really supportive of hosting a SC tourney and he said they don't have much business during the day anyways and I said I would provide all the administration, etc)... this would have allowed me to have a crazy prize pool (about $600+ with a $25 entry fee as I usually do for my LAN events). That coupled with Smuft's $500 was going to make for an absolutely crazy experience.
Obviously, this isn't working out, as I called Netolic 1.5 weeks ago and the owner said they were closing the store down to re-locate... So I feel as if I let people down, especially people that have flown out:
I'm really sorry to Game, Semih (although you probably would have come anyways), JoeKim (same as Semih, you're both awesome), and REALLY sorry to Machine - I can't express in words how sorry I am for Bryce, especially because he literally paid for the IEF trip out of his own pocket in addition to this...
So, I decided that it'd be better to make this LAN with a slightly lighter atmosphere (see the lower entry fee and not-using of Smuft's $500). The reason behind that is because I don't want to spend this sponsored money on such a disappointing place as Seoul PC. In addition, the fact that I'm not getting a special deal here will drastically decrease the prize pool anyways, so it wouldn't have been the same thing.
I will remedy this!
I'm going to plan a LAN - probably in December or January. This will probably be a BYOC, because I'm looking at using a big hall-like space rather than a LAN center.
The benefits of this are:
a) not sharing space with chain-smoking fuckers, or fatass WoW players, etc
b) we get our own BW space (where I can put up awesome banners and such!
c) 100% of entry fee can go to the prize pool
d) no motherfucker is gonna cancel shit on me 1 week before the event
The cons:
a) it's BYOC
b) it's BYOC
I'm going to be working out details and doing some hardcore planning in the next 1-2 weeks, by which time I will make an announcement. I'm also going to look to get actual sponsors for this so I can make it even more awesome. So please stay tuned, I'm going to be trying my absolute best to make up for this failure with something that will be even more awesome.
I feel like I've let quite a few people down, and I'm really sorry and I still feel terrible even though this news hit me over a week ago. Although I'm sure tomorrow will be a ton of fun, I know it's just disappointing because it won't work out the way I wanted. So again, I'm eternally sorry, but I'm going to make up for it!

Just got back home - thanks again everyone for coming, turned out to be quite a bit of fun, and there were some amazing games played.
Machine vs Nyoken and Semih vs Gretorp games were quite awesome!!

Just got home as well. Had a great time and am looking forward to the next one. Aside from the screaming cursing Asians everything went great. Seriously going to practice my ass off for the next one. After watching all of those gosus play I was inspired, especially after seeing Joe Kim play on a screen the size of an index card.
Also managed to snag more pictures this go-round but mostly of people playing. Will upload those tomorrow sometime.

I should have tried harder to get interviews with everyone. I missed all the top players and Xeris oh well. Xeris even missed the group pic we took lolz the hoster of teh LAN misses his own group photo sadness.
I will upload vids here tomorrow, I did get interviews with some dudes who've been out to previous DC LAN's such as HatchetWound, CaucasianAsian, vAltyR, LordWeird, I also managed to interview JoeKim and n.joy.life and took lots of game footage from random epic matches. I didn't get interviews with the top 8 because they were all playing when I was going around and when they finished mah battery was dead. (yeah I know I fail at life sorry bout that) Should have snagged Machine and Nyoken especially but oh wellz. ;(
Next time it'll be mandatory for everyone kkthx. (and I'll make sure to bring a charged camera lol)
got some footage of tossim vs Nyoken on HBR holy shit that was good stuff. and footage from various points of one of the 30+ minute TvP's that Gretorp and Semih played. (they played like 5 or 6 super long crazy games) among other stuff.
I also have full Nyoken, Semih and myself replay packs. You'll want to see Nyoken and Semih's stuff some of it is really good. My shit is pretty newbie but I played kinda alright at some points I guess. I'm moar motivated to try for B now on iccup that's fo sure.
I will upload all this probably in a blog entry tomorrow.

Man I didn't get home until 8 AM this morning. x_x After leaving StorrZerg's house at 3 or 4 PM yesterday, there was a TON of traffic on I-95 (and on a Sunday... wtf?), and I eventually had to pull over at a service area and sleep in the backseat of my car for a few hours cuz I was exhausted. Finally made it home, though... Phew.
That being said, it was still a good time. Always nice meeting up with fellow SC nerds. Much respect to Machine for flying out from Cali; he seemed like a very cool guy. I also got to enjoy the company of StorrZerg, JoeKim, Semih, and Life Saturday night and Sunday morning, all of whom are awesome. I had just met StorrZerg for the first time that day, and he was kind enough to let me spend the night at his house after complaining about being too tired to drive home. Thanks again, Storr!

there's gonna be another small LAN on December 5th- pm me for more details, we're mainly just looking for locals to meet up during the day for a while and play some fun games no major tournament or prizes planned.
next big event to seriously plan for will be Xeris LAN on Jan 9th.
Hopefully Duran has an update for us soon with that.
