[Live Interview] The New Face of OSL - StarGirl Yeonji Seo
"I wanna continue broadcasting if I can."

"Hi, I am the new OSL Girl, Yeonji Seo. Glad to be here!"
The new OSL greeted me brightly. Many fans might have met her as the StarGirl for Bacchus OSL 2009, but she's been around in StarCraft broadcasting through Live Battle and as VJ for Incruit OSL 2008.
She was born in 1989 and is majoring in composition at Gyungwon University. She is taking a break from school for broadcasting. "My major is composition, but I got in because of my piano skill, so you can just call me a piano major!" she said. She seems to be well-rounded girl with talents in broadcasting, music, and look.
Her first experience with broadcasting is with an independent film in high school. "As a high schooler, I was often featured in independent films by college students. The relationships I built there led me to the world of professional broadcasting," she said. Thereafter she went on building her experience with OSL Live Battle and as VJ for Incruit OSL 2008.
Her first impression with broadcasting is "joy." "My first broadcasting was Live Battle, and it was fun! I had liked StarCraft before, and it was fresh to communicate with fans while playing a game that I like, and it was a good memory," she said.
She goes on to Battle.net five to six times a week. She's glad to be StarGirl for this OSL. "I began playing about two years ago. I suck at 1:1 so I usually play Map Settings or team-play. But 1:1 is the most fun to watch. I have a brother five year younger than I am, and he loves StarCraft so much and watches OnGameNet a lot. I got into StarCraft watching games with him," she said.
When there is no broadcasting schedule, she studies or plays games. "I play StarCraft a lot, but I also enjoy Tetris and Easy-to-DJ. I suck at StarCraft but I am a gosu at Easy-to-DJ. I wanna show it off sometimes (laugh)," she expressed her passion for games.
I asked her how does it feel to be StarGirl. "I liked StarCraft anyway, so I just stepped in where they said they need StarGirl (laugh)," she said. "But I didn't really feel anything special when I first entered the booth. I was just nervous controlling the sound and doing what I was supposed to do, so I didn't have room to feel the joy of being inside the booth (laugh)," she said.
But she said she's just glad to be broadcasting about StarCraft. She couldn't help but smile when answering questions about StarGirl. "It's heaven for me! I love StarCraft and it's good to watch games so close, and I'm glad to help out with OSL. I am a Zerg user, so it's good to see Holy World which is a really good map for Zerg. I'm happy to see games played on that map (laugh)," she said.
When asked about her favorite gamer, she picked TossGirl without hesitation. She feels envious of her being a female gamer, and she wants to be as good. When asked to pick a male gamer, she pickd GGPlay, "I like his style, so I've always wanted to learn."
She revealed that she has made a good friend with a gamer as well. The gamer is KTF's Flash. They met through a friend's introduction, and they are now a brother and a sister who enjoy games together. "Since I play StarCraft a lot, I know some people at Battle.net. From them, I got to know Flash. We play together sometimes, and I am learning a lot (laugh)," she said.
I asked her what's her dream, with so many talents. "I wanna continue broadcasting if I can. Not only as StarGirl but as different channels I wanna interact with fans and enjoy together. Since I love StarCraft, I wanna be a host of a TV program that mixes media and StarCraft well," she said.
A girl with passion for broadcasting and StarCraft. She wishes to go beyond being StarGirl. I asked her for last words.
"A lot of people watch me broadcasting, I thank them all! I will do my best, and please continue to support me. I wish some fans make cheer messages for me like they do for gamers (laugh)," she concluded.

Wait so.. she just stands there behind gamer before the match? What's the purpose? When broadcasting was mentioned in the interview I thought it meant some sort of commentating. I think in theory the booth girls are there to make sure nothing fishy or suspicious is going on during the match, but in practice I don't know if they are actually anything more than decorations.
